    You are spot on with the point about tires being a massively underrated aspect of cycling. I live in the US in the North East were the roads are crap and it seems like I get flats even with Tubeless tires all the time. I have tried on my road bike Conti, Hutchinson, Specialized among others and honestly I am so frustrated with the puncture protection and the amount of money I spend on repairs and tires that its driven me to stop riding my bike sometimes. So I totally understand your point. I am to the point of getting metal tires here in just for riding in my area.

    All I can say is, there's lots of information that's hyped out when in reality...
    These High Road tires @ 179tpi in 25mm are crazy good 👍 super comfy And with some decent puncture protección. Mine last a bit more than 3000 klms, but I change them out when they have 2800 klms.

  • @MrJwmurph
    @MrJwmurph 3 года назад +2

    Great honest opinion.
    I live in Ireland and 25mm are perfect for me, I've no desire to go wider. I've one bike set up tubeless and the other on clinchers, the tubeless one uses GP5000TL and they are impossible to mount both on Giant and Fulcrum 2-Way-Fit rims. My fitting troubles turned me to Pirelli clinchers on my summer bike which has the Fulcrum wheels, the reason I chose that particular model of Fulcrum was to run tubeless but the GP5000 ruined it for me. Don't get me wrong, the GP5000 are fantastic once on the rim, roll fast, no punctures and grip well but I just can't deal with the incompatibility between those tires and my rims should I need do a road side repair.
    If I had a tubeless tire that I could confidently say I could do a roadside repair (remove tire & valve, insert tube and re-mount the tire) with my rims then I'm sold on the concept and would switch my summer bike over once my Pirelli have worn.

    • @2rets305

      Agree. While I rode GP5000s I was terrified of getting a flat. I even took spare levers just so I wouldn’t get stranded.

    • @oisin2142
      @oisin2142 3 года назад

      Wasn't mad on the 5000s. I find the rim has alot to do with how easy or not tyres are to fit and now that everything is (virtually) tubeless compatible it only increases the issues along with wider rims. Had nightmare with 5000s 23mm, corsa g2 25mm on a set of Primes. It convinced me to buy tools go help get them on the rim. Saves your hands on cold days.

    • @oisin2142
      @oisin2142 3 года назад

      @@MrJwmurph Can't speak on the tubeless, but I found them harder to fit than the original Corsa G (probably partly due to narrower rim). The G2 are a improvement don't cut like the G. Haven't yet got the balls to give tubeless a go.

      When you flat a tubeless tire you are always screw up...I don´t know how a dirty full of sealant tire could beehive with an inner tube,you got the perfect mix for tire rotation over the rim while braking. Best thing is ride decent tires you know never or very rarely get a puncture,a little heavy one´s are very good,almost bulletproof. When you spend 20 or 30 minutes on side of the road repairing a flat,the fastest rolling tire in the world can´t get back those minutes.
      A pair of vinyl globes is the best tool to deal with the sealant mesh.

  • @charng
    @charng 3 года назад

    As far as rolling resistance is concerned, the leaders in the pure racing category are who? Vittoria Corsa Speed G+ 2.0 TLR and Schwalbe Pro One TT TLE? However, they basically have no puncture protection at all so you are solely counting on your sealant then while Continental GP5000 TL offers brilliant balance. For Maxxis to win, it needs to be really light and aero. I cannot find the actual weight so far. Will I bet my money on that it is faster than those mentioned above? I think not.

    It's not really the tire that makes it hard to mount, it's the combo. There is no real agreement on exact dimensions for tubeless rims. Although Michelins and Panaracers have caused me headaches tubeless. Gone back to tubes because I just have zero issues with GP5000 clinchers.

      Another thing, two sets I bought from wiggle had sidewall leaks, which sealed with the sealant. I contracted Conti and they requested that I return them as its not normal. I would point out one more thing you got wrong, your tire width should match you rim requirements. I have Boyd 36 carbon clincher rims which are 22 ID and 29 OD. I'm using 28mm tires for that maximum aero benefit which is proper and the performance proves it. I tried 25mm tires and it just wasn't as good in the corners or comfort and aero wise it's hard to say but 28mm just seems like the right combo.
