I saw you advising how to build a nest box and what to put inside it. Have to say that was the best information I’ve seen so far. I like the fact you didn’t make it too small for them. I saw one last week the parent was scrunched up inside it, way too small.
Yep, this doesn't work with all birds nor is it the way we're meant to do it. When a bird bites hard we need to put them back in their cage immediately. Green cheek conures are very smart & need lots of attention from us. They love outdoor cage time so they quickly learn that biting hard means they'll go back to their cage. My gcc Happy is obsessed with me & wants to be on my shoulder all day, so he learnt this punishment quickly, lol
@@brookecox5955 hey honey. I don't have time limits, it also depends on what I'm doing. If I have things to do I leave Happy (my green cheek conure who's the only one of my birds who bites) in his cage til I'm home or have done what I need. Sometimes I get him out after approx 5 mins, sometimes it can be under 5 mins but that's because he knows why he's back in the cage & quickly becomes very sweet- his way of saying "sorry mum", lol. If he's pacing around the cage & hyped up I leave him there for a while, til he's calm. Parrots are very smart & quickly learn that biting means being in put in their cage, hence it working for Happy & I. I go on instinct & therefore put him in for as long as I feel but there may be a certain amount of time they need to be caged for & that info would be on that on the internet. Sorry I haven't given a precise answer to your question but I hope I've helped in some way 🙏
for anyone who needs this info: when a conure (not sure if this applies with any other parrot) bites you, just say ch-ch-ch-ch-ch. the parrot will think it’s an enemy, so it’ll stop.
It could a reason that it isn't very friendly with you. I suggest to tame it some more over time. Let it know you for more time rather that getting your hand closer to it too often. If it is comfy with you, then you may start moving on :)
This isn't the best way to stop biting. With birds who spend lots of time out of their cage, putting them back in their cage immediately after a hard bite works & is the correct way to do it
That's another one to add to the toolkit. I've mostly dealt with bigger parrots and sometimes you aren't fast enough or miss read them and you get bit. I was given a yellow sided Green Cheek that had been outside and flew to the guy that gave her to me. She was a very tired and hungry and just wanted to eat, cuddle, and sleep, but once she started feeling better she started biting my arms and hands. She loves scritches through the bars but eventually starts getting excited and nibbles and bites my finger. If I tell her gentle she backs off a bit. Every time she gets out when I try to put her back eventually she runs down my arm and usually bites my hands or fingers. Wonder if the shaking technic would distract her so I don't get bit then we can work on trust and scritches out of the cage again.
Nope. Shaking dose nothing but make Sunny bite more. Starting to feel defeated after a year with our adopted Conure. She started out nice and snuggly but a few months after we adopted her, the biting just progressively got worse and worse. 😔 need gloves to handle her and I need to wear a hat for her to perch on otherwise I would have no ears left. 😢

Stay calm when he bites. Don’t move and just wait for him to let go, maybe pour water or blow on its face, but don’t shake because it makes them want to hold on more so they don’t fall.
I've had my green cheek since he was 13 weeks old who was tame then 1 year later he changed to biting me and not not going back in his cage and attacking people
I think a good way that won’t result in more biting is putting two fingers in front of their face almost like waving finger to inform a bird that it is doing something wrong
Sadly for me that males my bird get more violent and bite harder while hissing and then biting until that spot bleeds then moves on to another spot and repeats
This is not good, you’re giving him a reaction and your bird may see it as entertaining. Which is why there’s people in the comments saying their birds won’t stop or bite harder. To some birds it is a little fun ride and reward they get for biting
Hello Phenomenon. I have a green cheek conure for about two years. At first when i got him, everything was normal. I was patient with him and i tamed him. He was a nice birb for about a year. Se were playing together, and i think that i've got a very nice bond with him. But then everything changed. It looked like that he Is a compleatly diferent parrot. He Is biting the crap out of me, and when i place my finger in front of him he just lowers himslef, and doesn't want to step on it (like he was steping in the first place) and when i pull my finger back he gets all fluffy and tries to reach my finger to bite me. To me, it looked like he just hates me and doesn't want me near him and bites me just becouse he likes to. When he bites me i pull my finger away and push him of my, but if i push him he continues to fly towords me, like he thinks that he Is stronger then me and like he is trying to pick up a fight me. When he bites me, i chase him down the room and try to put him in his cage (in that proces i alsaw get a lot of wounds). And i forgot to tell you that he Is always all fluffy with me and when he bites me, he pirces my skin allmowst every single time and it really hurts. When i put my finger in front of him and he lowers himslef down and if i hold my finger in front of him for a while, sometimes he makes a move like that he wants to bite me but he doesn't. At that point i get scared, and my reflex Is to pull my finger away. And when i get up, and try to open door of his cage he Is very aggresive and whants to rushes out of his cage. Is it to late for me and my conure? Am i doing something wrong? Thank you
Two days ago my parakeet randomly flew to my hand and started to bite my fingers none stop ... I was like “noooo don’t bite my finger” and I wouldn’t move because I wanted to show my bird that I’m the boss and it’s not getting anything from violence but... he didn’t stop and it started to hurt...then he went to my nail and started biting it (he cut off my nail...like a nail clipper) 🤣🤣😂
If this works I owe you BIG! I can only pet my green cheek, Sammy with an object like a chop stick or end of pen. He really likes it but seems to get overexcited and even bites it. I get bit if I try. I’ll try this out. Thanks.
What?!! I got a bird from someone else who also said this bird bites hard and long. I've been trying everything; giving him loads of gentle caring attention, treats; scritching he loves (with stick) yet if he gets near you he bites the FCK out of you and will not let go. It is very painful and makes handling him very tenuous. I have NEVER seen another bird behave this bad (in tons of net vids). I discipline by staying still and quiet in pain and finally getting him into the cage place towels over for a time out period (no yelling) then when I go to open the cage, he is even more so, right there at the latch trying to bite your finger. They agreed to take the bird back (a relative) but I fear they will not do a respectful job of placement into a good environ.
My bird bites when I put my hand in his cage to pick him up or change his food and water. It’s always stressful. I have to take him out with a wood perch and then he’ll step up nicely.
I bought a glove on Amazon that they can’t bite through when putting them back in the cage. It works but you need to work quickly cause he has bitten through on occasion. Still better than bare hand.
Thanks, I’ll give that a try. My lil black cap Alyx had a biting and hand trust issue cause petco was 6 months of living hell. Between the small cage and the employees “getting her out” to show people. She’s a sweetheart and trusts me and hands now. But she still is just very nip happy.
