    Very cool match.
    It seems he tried to lever the skills he developed in MMA and Combat Sambo but you stopped it.
    Merab seems a lot more skilled in wrestling style takedowns than typical Judo or jacket grappling throws.
    The times you guys gripped up you seem to have the advantage.
    Very disciplined gameplan to beat the Machine.

    • @t.weber64kg

      He definitely was levering the double leg he developed though mma. He hasn’t done jacket in a long time so I knew I would have the advantage there. Thanks for the props man!

    Well not knowing the rules of Sambo isn't stopping people commenting here!
    I've lost a match this way before and it is frustrating, but I didn't see anything wrong with the scoring. Merab knows the rules perfectly well so I don't know what he got so aggressive. Merab spammed 2 moves and didn't grip fight enough. When you're a generalist, you will lose to a specialist from time to time and that's what happened here, I could name 3 UFC fights that entered BJJ tournments and lost matches. He seemed to want to win a sport sambo match with wrestling which is a tough task, much more viable in combat sambo.

      This is the best comment on the video. I 100% agree with you it wasn’t hard to me to game plan that he would just shoot doubles based on watching him fight for so long. BJJ he might have expected to lose. I think his pre fight post skewed his thoughts on what would happen. Everyone said the US doesn’t have anyone good so he didn’t even warm up. I’m personally frustrated with the match still because I could have done better if I prepared rather than just hoping in on a days notice. I wish I could have pushed the pace back but you gotta do what you gotta do.

    • @t.weber64kg
      @t.weber64kg  2 месяца назад +2

      Wrestling is definitely better in combat because you can set up your shots with strikes which he does very well. He lured a lot of our guys into striking matches and won with double legs when they were caught up trying to take his head off

      @@t.weber64kg I don't mean any disrespect to him because i'm a big fan of his MMA fights, but i'd imagine you've got team mates who give you harder grip fighting battles than this match? It's hard to tell from watching, but I can't see him doing a lot to try and improve after the initial grip up?
      Some of mine are good level Judoka and I can't even get hands on their lapel, unless it's half way down it!

    • @t.weber64kg
      @t.weber64kg  2 месяца назад +2

      I only really have one or two people who give me a challenge grip wise but it’s more even than it is impossible to get me grip on. Merab was a different kinda gripper. His high grip was more powerful than anyone I train with and he was definitely physically stronger. Getting a lapel on him though was easy. I’d say he definitely isn’t a technical gripper but he made up for it with raw aggression. Internationally when I trained Judo the guys who were aggressive and technical were terrifying because you couldn’t ever even get to attempt throws.

    i don't understand this sambo scoring, looks like you failed 10 different throws, Merab put in constant and relentless work.

    • @t.weber64kg
      @t.weber64kg  2 месяца назад +7

      You only score if you throw someone on their back, side or belly and shoulders. I landed on elbows and knees which is no score. I got three penalties because of bailing out on those throws. Constant work doesn’t mean anything if you can’t throw someone on their back in Sambo. He failed many double legs too that’s why it was scored as such.

    • @pcprinciple3774
      @pcprinciple3774 2 месяца назад +5

      It's pretty similar to Judo, you could attempt 10 throws but if they land on their front then you aren't getting anything for them, although Wrestling or BJJ you would

    I can see why Merab was getting frustrated. You didn't stay standing up and that should have been a disqualification towards the end. It was fun to watch though.

      @@Fadedgeek411 I totally understand why he was frustrated I personally think two or three were legitimate penalties but sometimes I was still attacking and off balancing him. I also still scored big throws twice so that gets you some more time to work.

      Wrestling sports developed to privilege the act of upending an opponent and placing their back firmly on the ground. The principle being that on a harder surface you don't really leap up and dominate wrestling for the next few minutes.

      @@t.weber64kgi understand your point but @pantloaded was talking about the Sambo rules. I have to agree with him only in some cases. the turtling should be penalized, and with regards to the knee drops judo gives out shido way more easily. I hate shido but some places it makes sense. It may seem like merab was dominant but you played well to the rules. I don't think he means any ill to you but rather the rules of Sambo.

      Yeah turtling is kinda silly in terms of actual combat and I coach my guys to move in turtle and try things but I was so gassed in that match I really couldn’t do much and for me to be able to move and play from there he would have had to engage.
