For Honorable Mentions I can't believe Billboard mentioned Olivia Rodrigo but none of her Disney peers who came before her. Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez had huge breakout moments in pop as well... Demi especially vocally and album-wise should've been an honourable mention. I'm not sure what her sales stats are, but she still has one of the most unique voices in pop today. Every millennial and Gen Z adult has heard "Heart Attack", "Sorry not Sorry" and "Cool For The Summer".

I agree. I’m no fan of Olivia but still she’s way too recent. At that point you could have mentioned anyone that came out in the last five years. But longevity matters

    • @nevin2
      @nevin2 6 часов назад +2

I'm totally agree. With no doubt, Olivia is a great musician, but for her next album, I hope she starts writing about things other than heartbreaks, I enjoy her music but a little bit of fresh would be great. But to be honorable mention, that's too recent. And yeah there's multiple musician should've been mention, and Demi one of them as you mentioned. I'm not a huge fan of Demi but I know that she really had an impact on pop culture. These honorable mention I can see them in top 50, maybe ( except for Billy Eilish , I can see her a little higher maybe top 35 at least).

    1. beyonce
    2. Taylor Swift
    3. Madonna (yes Madonna, are we gonna forget that she has had 6 #1 albums in the 21st century alone and another one being #2 due to a rule change, highest grossing tours even as of recent…. I’m sorry but she’s more than an 80s artist and people need to not forget that)
    4. Lady Gaga
    5. Britney Spears

    9. Nicki Minaj
    10. Ariana grande

@ yes. I love Rihanna I do. But in terms of albums as a whole, Rihanna first few have hits and then fillers, some gems. But really hit when rated r or loud came out. She also doesn’t have impact in terms of performance in the way the others do. Her tours also sometimes feel like they don’t match the energy of the albums etc. anti tour looked good but not Stellar as it should have. Rihanna is impactful yes but not more than the others

    • @Livies847
      @Livies847 12 часов назад

@@ImJustinPineda Gaga is def a generational talent and her debut will forever go down as one of the most iconic pop eras in history. However, Rihanna impact has contributed more to the industry than Gaga. For starters, Rihanna has pushed the music industry forward sonically and not only did she help set the trends but she was also paving a way for future black female pop stars. What a lot of people don’t know is that before Rihanna came out, black artist couldn’t do pop music and R&B, you had to pick one (unless you were a crossover act like Beyoncé) urban radio looked at a black woman doing pop music as betrayal, Rihanna Pon De Replay was banned from urban radio. It wasn’t until she released the smash Umbrella that it changed the game. Rihanna’s impact and influence in the industry is often overlooked in favor to Beyoncé.

I really don't understand how some men refer to Miley's Bangerz era as "the time when she was black" while simultaneously sucking up to Eminem. The criticism of Miley for adopting an aesthetic that many associate with Black culture is, at the very least, contradictory-especially when we see Eminem being elevated, despite his frequent involvement in controversial behaviors, ranging from racial slurs to questionable attitudes towards Black culture. He is treated as an icon. You can say whatever you want, but as a Black person, I'll never understand this dichotomy. It's a blatant contradiction in how the industry treats men and women, especially when it comes to gender and race. While Miley was harshly criticized for something that, at the time, wasn’t as widely discussed or acknowledged, many other artists, like Justin Timberlake, also appropriated Black culture and no one says a word. This disparity clearly reveals the racial and gender hypocrisy within the music industry, where the talent and behavior of certain artists seem to be judged by entirely different standards.

    • @rayshawnphoenix2135
      @rayshawnphoenix2135 36 минут назад

The thing is you dolt Eminem didn’t have to fake anything his love for HipHop is real. Whereas Miley just adopted the genre as if she was trying on new clothes then shunned it in its entirety when she was tired of it. It’s not too deep to hold a grudge but people won’t forget that.

I may agree with the statement that bts is too high BUT the reasoning is flawed. You can’t say that they haven’t been around for long…say YOU haven’t known about them for long. We are 24 years into this century and BTS have been around for half of those years. Over a decade. They might have hit your ears recently BUT they’re not all that new.
Both BTS and Bad Bunny exist outside of the English/Western mainstream yes and that makes them maybe feel like diversity entries for a lot of people but both acts have reshaped their respective industries. This list isnt ‘The Greatest Popstars of the 21st century in America’

About KW and JAY-Z, - I feel like the former surpassing the latter only works because it's narrowed down to the specific 25 years in pop. When you look all their careers so far, - JAY-Z clears. And it's like that with Drake vs Kendrick in the opposite way because I'm certain we are watching the latter grow and take us places whereas the former is in a decline…

"McDonald’s sells a lot of burgers but no one is telling McDonald’s that they’re the pinnacle of cuisine and taste" - Azealia Banks, 2016

@@arquivomorto. People eat McDonald’s because it’s cheap. All music has the same accessibility. People don’t listen to mediocre music just because it’s their only option. If artists are doing big numbers, it’s because people bought and streamed the music, because they LIKE IT!! And if that many people like someone’s music, no matter your personal opinion, that’s menas there is something to love about it. Numbers aren’t the only thing that matters, but you can’t say that they don’t matter all.

You said that right Nick's competition is Lady Gaga the Katy Perry the Miley Cyrus's the people like that. That's why she's on this list cuz she's a pop artist she's not a hip hop artist. had Missy Elliott lil' Kim and people like that have did lots of pop with their music they would be on this list. But they stay true to hip hop and made raw true authentic hip hop. Yes they did songs with pop artists who asked them to be on their records. But they never went and made songs on their albums that were pop. You put a Missy Elliott album on right now you're not going to hear one ounce of pop. And as far as sales especially albums Missy Elliott sold the most albums of any female rapper. You go to Google it's going to say Nikki so the $100 million records and is the best selling female rapper. But take out singles and allllll of those features that she has done with other artists. She only sold 10 million albums Out of that hundred million. Which means people only listen to her because of her singles not because her albums were good.

biased analysis without research. you're speaking from a western pov and making inaccurate statements about timelines. the foreign acts mentioned have been around the same time as the others. just because you and others weren't aware of them or their impact until recently, doesn't mean they didn't make a big enough impact. bad bunny and bts have been huge globally around 10+ years. bts charted on bb almost a decade ago as a foreign artist from fan support alone, still get no radio/playlisting/western exposure and top the charts. bad bunny has been making hits and charting for years beyond the u.s and holds streaming records despite being a foreign artist. billboard recognizes global impact not just american. both deserve their spots as they've dominated the u.s/global scene, made history as foreign acts and can keep up with major acts. their impact goes beyond the u.s and has changed the music industry. read up on what they've achieved organically as non-english artists.

I don’t have a strong opinion on whether Taylor or Beyonce should’ve been first. However, if you read the article they wrote about Beyoncé being number 1, they mention/compare her to Taylor 13 times! If you’re gonna choose Beyoncé first, act like she deserves it. Don’t just compare her to Taylor but say Taylor can’t be first because she didn’t debut until 2006. They made it seem like the ONLY reason Taylor wasn’t first was because of when she started her career.

The list is not accurate at all. Billboard did not make a good list. I'm looking at the list now The top 25 and the whole list of 50.
I feel like Rihanna should have been in that top spot. I feel like
    Missy Elliott
    usher
    Adele
    Jay z
    Beyoncé
should have been in the top 5 top 10
    Lil Wayne
    Justin Bieber
    Chris Brown
    Nelly
You're probably going to think this is a little weird. But I feel like Christian singer Kirk Franklin should have been in the top 10.
Hold on Wait a minute... He has 13 albums been out since '93. Even though this list is talking about from 2001 to now. He ran the Christian charts and Grammys. He now has 20 Grammys and will possibly have 22 next year. He won two Grammys for Tori Kelly's album hiding place He produced wrote and co-wrote songs on Tori Kelly's album the whole album. He wrote and produced other artist music and have won Grammys. He has worked with everyone in different genres of music
    Kanye West
    Stevie Wonder
    Earth wind & fire
    Chance the rapper
    Jasmine Sullivan
    Layla Hathaway
    Lil baby
    Mary J Blige
    R Kelly
    Bono
That's just to name a few.
Yeah he needs to be top 10. I can move Nelly down to top 20.
Top 15 top 20 should have been in no order at the moment.
    Post Malone
    SZA
    maroon 5
    Cardi B
    Kelly Clarkson
    Kendrick Lamar
    Sean Paul
    Megan thee stallion
    Carrie Underwood
    Doja cat
    Britney Spears
    Kanye West
    Ariana grande
    Eminem
    Nicki Minaj
Some of these people are not my favorite and I don't even listen to their music but I know the cultural impact they have had which made me put them on this top 20 top 25 list out of 50. Some of these people on my top 20 top 25 I love to death but had to move down off of the top 10 because I feel like they needed a few more years under their belt. But the little bit of years that they've been out they ran that s***. And I'm a little biased just a little bit because I grew up in the '90s early 2000s era when the Missys the Jays the Wayne's and a few other artists have started in the game. I was middle school when a lot of them started.

Beyonce deserves to be number 1 but not on a publication where numbers and stats are the most important. You can’t be number 1 on the list for a publication driven by numbers while the said publication is ignoring… numbers… I feel so bad for beyoncé because they basically said taylor is better and the only reason she’s not number 1 is because she had shorter career. They praised taylor so much 13 times in the article that was supposed to celebrate beyonce.
