    In this review, we'll be assessing the health and sports tracking capabilities of the Amazfit GTR4 using scientific and systematic methods. If you're someone who values your health and fitness, and you want to find the best smartwatch or fitness tracker, then this video is definitely for you. I've collected data for 27 workouts, 11 nights of sleep and 13 GPS tracks using the Amazfit GTR4, and we're going to compare the results to reference devices to see how well the watch actually performs. I'll be sharing all the data with you so that you can make an informed decision about whether this is the right smartwatch for you. So, whether you're an athlete, a fitness enthusiast or just someone who wants to stay on top of their health, you won't want to miss this review. So sit back, relax and let's get started!
    The Amazfit GTR4 has been one of the most requested watches for me to test, so let’s get to it. As you know, I don’t like listing the specs of watches, since that has been covered in many reviews and can also be found on Amazfit’s website. I will be focussing on the actual data instead, and finding out if Amazfit was able to improve their product. In past videos I’ve shown that while Amazfit makes some of the most beautiful smartwatches, their health tracking features have been amongst the worst out there. Their heart rate tracking and sleep tracking have been especially terrible, but the new BioTracker 4.0 Health Data Sensor of the Amazfit GTR4 might have improved this. So, let’s take a look, and I want to start off with the heart rate tracking performance of the Amazfit GTR 4.

    Love your content and bought a Polar Unite as my first fitness watch after watching heaps of your videos and realising you are using the Polar chest strap as the gold standard. I love this watch (I love that it is not too complex so I can understand all the features really well) and am thinking about upgrading to a Polar Ignite. There is just one thing - I am a bit paranoid about how much radiation is emitted by fitness watches. I have my Polar Unite on flight mode most of the time with continuous heart rate tracking turned off because I am hoping it reduces radiation emissions. If you could do a video exploring radiation emissions from fitness watches, and how to minimise radiation emissions from fitness watches, that would be amazing.

    In my experience, GPS has about a 30 ft +/- error. I've seen this with pretty much every gps device I've ever used. This would account for why sometimes your bike path was on one side of the street, and other times the other.

    As always, great reviews and insights. I wonder... For this specific watch, since it seems to perform inconsistently among tests (some rides decent, some cr@p, some nights of sleep tracking almost decent, some other... Not!), Is there a pattern correlated to the order of the test? Meaning for instance, the earlier test are worst and result become better with more testing? Just thinking if there is any "learning" by the watch in time...

    Thanks for the time you dedicated in testing the watch. I have been owning the GTR3 Pro for a year now and I'm backing up the findings of Rob. However, HR monitoring improves significantly when I have the watch well up my wrist with a really tight fit. Sleep tracking not so reliable even though the watch is spot-on for every time I wake up during the night. I must say that GPS tracking on the GTR3 Rro is almost perfect. Overall, it's a shame that it's let down by an inconsistent HR monitoring because that put aside it has amazing graphics, a very stable firmware, a very robust hardware and more metrics and analytics than any other watch, even those with a higher price tag. I would like to see how it performs when connected to a chest strap however.

    • @tonineffling9308
      @tonineffling9308 Год назад +2

      I have GTR4 and polar H10 - they work nicely together. The watch uses strap automatically in workouts -if it does not find one, it uses its own sensor. And yes GTR4 is almost as bad as GTR3 (I think GTR4 has stronger filtering i.e. it's lagging more and overshooting less so it's a bit better in steady pace running/cycling) .
      I do have GTR 3 too and I agree with you that it works better when I wear it higher and really tight (even then it is 80-90% accurate based on HR zone-measurement in comparison to H10 - less that that in bodyweight training like tabata).
      GPS in GTR4 (dual band, all satellites) is even more accurate than GTR3 which I find pretty accurate in trail running and cycling (forest- there are no mountains in Finland), but I haven't tested GTR4 in hiking in the mountains. GTR3 has some altitude issues i.e. it sometimes drops to zero altitude and includes that to total accend and decend (path is kind of okay still - just some quick bungee jumping) - I do not know why GTR3 does not use barometric sensor or better data filterin to prevent such easy to correct errors. Zepp app has also a glitch in gradient profile (yesterday my run was 65% uphill, 52% downhill and -17% flat - so 100% total - maybe I was so fast that I warped space).

      I really find this test really weird, the fact that he test it on November with old firmware and that he didn't mention that you can connect a heart strap, but what im really annoyed its that he says that the gps is bad, i dont agree in the slightest, I have test it running with a friend with a coros and Garmin, really close results on the gps side, some bugs here an there no gonna lie but not even close to how is portrait in this review honestly

    • @menifo4334
      @menifo4334 Год назад +5

      @@JoseMarioLagos To be honest, I missed the fact that he did the review some four months ago. Indeed, the GPS on Garmins is no better than that on the GTR 3, but the GPS accuracy was all over the place with the initial firmwares, before a major update beginning of summer 2022.
      In all fairness though, Rob is testing all smartwatches at launch, so the comparison is valid since he's trying to keep standardized parameters for all the watches he's testing.
      Amazfit watches do improve with consecutive updates. The latest update last week March 23rd (which came as a surprise after nine months of latency) seems to have fixed the inconsistency on the HR monitor but that remains to be seen.

    I have found that some smart watches that I have owned do get better accuracy with updates. Presumably you are testing "straight out of the box" watches? I have found that my current smartwatch, an Amazfit GTR 3 Ltd Ed, has become remarkably better at swim distance recording since its many updates. It was reading hundreds of metres short! and now it tallies on par with my FORM Goggles (true distance recording). The Amazfit HRM is still high reading at peaks (against Polar Verity at temple position) but much, much better than it was "out of the box".

    Idk how Samsung sucks at battery optimization. My galaxy watch 4 classic 46mm battery lasts maybe 2 days where my Amazfit Gts 2 will go 4. But totally agree on their bad fitness tracking. This bro is LEGIT! I always trust his in depth reviews! 🤙

      Samsung watches run a full smartwatch software (Wear OS), on the other hand most watches like Amazfit and Huwaei are using lite custom OS that requires much less processing power and limited in functionality

    Thanks for the detailed review. Generally sums up what I have observed with this watch. Disappointing to see it underperforming in so many aspects. Here are some of my comments and personal observations:
    1) Please mention the tracking mode that you used in your tests: Is it accuracy or balanced?
    In accuracy mode: I would give GPS tracking 3.5/5. I would remove 1.5 stars for struggling in regions with tree cover/buildings, gps drift and improper tracking around corners. I would say that the gps tracker works generally well in open areas.
    2) Amazfit also supports external HRM. Can you please share some results when connecting the watch with external HRM? This seems to work well. However, I have found that sometimes that my HR was not tracking properly even with external HRM. Just want to understand if there is a software bug.
    3) While it seems to be poor at tracking the different sleep cycles. I have generally found it to be accurate when it comes to wake period during sleep and also sleep start time and stop time. So if someone is looking to track overall sleep and not individual sleep cycles this is not a bad option.
    4) This watch offers VO2max measurement. Can you review that as well with and without external HRM?

    Hi there. Would you be able to confirm, as you have both the Amazfit GTR4 and the Polar H10 chest strap.., can you connect the GTR4 to the chest strap and use this to measure heart rate during workouts? I have read that this is possible, and this would be a great solution. Settings>Bluetooth>workout accessory...

    Hello. I want to buy this watch, I really like it. But from your review I understand that it do not measure heart rate well. Maybe it was a firmware issue? Almost a year has passed, the firmware has been updated. Can you test it again?

    All devices which claim producing health related data should need to comply with minimum accuracy levels by norms or laws. Since these do not exist, I suggest referring to Rob's data.
    I wonder if you could produce such a set of requirements. With your experience analysing these things ...

  • @rtswinxp

    Quick question. I want to buy smartwatch for heart rate and sleep monitoring (i don't expect medical level measurements) with additional GPS tracking. I don't care about sports and expect relatively long battery life (with 24/7 heart and sleep monitoring and no AoD). I was thinking about Venu 2 or GTR4 however now im a bit stuck. I don't have Iphone so Apple Watches are out of the equation. So... is GTR3 PRO my only option left? Venu is about 350USD here so that's the budget. Thanks!
