As someone who only ever saw people talk about Amnesia (and was sorta my intro to Lets Plays), the existence of Penumbra shocked me. I was like "how come nobody talks about this?" Its always weird seeing the games made before the big game that causes a studio to take off and seeing what else they tried and how it sometimes shapes what they do later.
Like you, I never played the last third, but one of my friends used to never shut up about Necrologue so I went in expecting to dislike it and ended up surprised with its quality. The sound especially deserves a mention, some tracks and moments go just as hard as some of dark plague's highest highs. There are some slightly janky moments but it a genuine love letter to the first two titles

Never played the games. 🤔
They are good, highly recommend if you like horror games, they are dirt cheap on steam sales
