@waynefoolx we received no compensation from Juno whatsoever. 1) We just really like their salon, and 2) people have asked us where to get their hair cut in Korea, so we wanted to answer that question.
Thank you! Thank you! I'm cutting my hair short and stylish for the first time (it's 14 inches right now) and I have been really, really nervous about maintaining my new cut when I go to Korea. You can't imagine what a relief this is!
omgosh, you guys are so spot on about everything in this video. i'm from korean/japanese descent and I don't trust any other salon in korea (or in america... ). they know which hair cut flatters your face shape the most, and... you can't forget the little ginger treats!! woooo
the best haircut of my life came from korea. my host mom's sister had a salon, and as a thank you for tutoring her kids, she gave me a cut. i'm multiracial, with lots and lots of curls that get straighter underneath. she used razors and everything else, i was like uuuuuh....aw man. it looked so short, but it was perfecto. haven't cut my hair since, it's been like a year and a half, and it's grown out awesomely. usually after 6mo the growout is off and i look like i need another cut.
This puts me a little at ease about going to Korea now...I dye my hair a much lighter colour than it is naturally and fail at doing the roots myself, but now I know somewhere I can go that I'll be sure will get it right! They'll be getting a huge tip from me!
Ehmmm I paid $120 for a men's haircut plus dyeing at Juno's. The agashi was really pleasant and charming and also she gave me a massage for like an hour. The result was great too. But my local ajuma does 75% of that for $30 so....
Wait....WHAT? 22.50? OMG. I spend roughly 50 to 70 USD (including tip and tax) whenever I get my hair done. Wow...just wow...haha. It's a sign that I should go to Korea. . Haha awesome vid. I too was wondering where in the world you got your hair done as well. It's so cute~
There is one hair salon called Juno in Oakland, California. Owner is Korean old lady called Juno. I used to go there and get my hair done when I was in America. She is so good at cutting hair. I always ended up happy with my hair cut. Hair cut costs 40-50$, but its worth the money.
@veggievegetarian i pay $20-25 here in GA, USA at a korean salon. It includes shampoo, massage, cut, and style. All Korean hair salons usually charge that much or less and in the price the massage and hair shampoo and style is always included. I didn't know american salons charged separately for those when i went to an american hair salon with my friend.
@PreciousHime in Korea, taxes are included in all prices, like food and merchandise and etc. the thing is, things are cheaper in Asia because unlike the western world, manual labor is not as appreciated hence the lower pay hourly rate for workers. the only instance where you would have to pay tips in Korea are for extremely expensive western restaurants like Outback (where a steak is like 30 dollars)
;_; Korean hair salons are the best...I went to Korea and I had to get my hair cut there 'cause it was a mess, and I didn't go to Juno, but I went to one in Seoul, and the service was fantastic, they cut my hair 10x better than anyone in the US has, and it was roughly $6 bucks (7000 won). I got it washed, cut, and dried. It costs me roughly $15 to get it washed, cut, and dried here with half of the amazing service. I love Korea...so much...
THANK YOU! I just got to Korea and was dreading having to find a salon that can (possibly) manage my thickcurlywavyfrizz-prone mop. When I need to get my hair done, I'll definitely check this place out!
In my rural-ish city, the hair stylists on the top floor of Lotte Mart did a good job cutting and styling the hair from my foreign friends (Canadian, British, two South Africans) and they're super cheap too. The usual cost of a haircut + wash is 18000won but if you join the free membership, the price is knocked down to 14000won. btw you two, I really like your editing skills! ah! so pretty and so good =)
Being in NYC really helps. I think I'll try out an Asian salon soon and see how that goes! Even Asian stylists I've been to before aren't always good, so I end up having my mom cut it.
Wow, thats almost the same price that those same services would cost at the SCHOOL im attending right now! AND FREE COFFEE? Totally amazing! Even though I am not going to be visiting S. Korea (err, at least not anytime soon...) and my family would absolutely kill me if I even thought about living so far, as a hairdresser in training this was still so interesting to watch! Thanks so much:)
Y'all are seriously helping me prepare for my move to Korea soon. Thank you guys so so so soooo much!!! There's a branch of Juno in Seoul, I'm assuming, yes?
@JenSeob well japanese and chinese hair is similar to Korean hair (some parts of China since China has tons of ethnicities) but as you go to south east asia they're very different from central Asians/Koreans
most korean hair salons are around that price (or even less) for just a cut just cutting usually comes with washing and styling. it's the perms that get super super pricey...
Price is really similar in Hong Kong, (My parents are from Hong Kong but I'm born in Britain) We went back April in 2011 and My brother had his hair washed and cut, my mum had hers washed, cut and permed, and I had my hair dyed, highlighted and chemically straightened (Bearing in mind just getting it straightened here in London is £60) ... all came up to a total of $566 (Hong Kong dollars) ... which is about £45 :D
it all depends on the person...even people in the same family have different types of hair. i'm chinese and i have straight hair thats really fine but i also have a lot of hair, so it ends up feeling kinda medium-ish. most asians have straight or semi-straight hair and thickness ranges from really thin to really thick. i think the thick hair stereotype comes from asian anime/manga hairstyles (especially for guys). you need a lot of hair to actually be able to pull those hairstyles off.
one funny comment! My cousin actually used to work there! Same exact store! I remember one time visiting him there, but he quit because he said that Juno Hair Salon is too hard to work at.... So yeahh!! LOVE KOREA!
Maybe there might be some salons for you in Itaewon? That's where a lot of foreigners live/are/play so there might be some there...not too sure though but that'd be my first place to look
i found out that juno hair salon is like everywhere in seoul, and i went to the one at seohyun station (서현역) and it was awesome!!!! everyone was so niceee! the one who spoke english was from london. cool beans. :]
Yeah I found this out the hard way too -.- when I stayed in korea i had my hair done 2different times and the first they actually told me they wanted to try it out because they have never touched my kind of hair before O.o it was ok just not what i was wanting the second time I got a stright perm & a cut and loved it [i was staying with a host family so my H.mother took me to her salon] was so surprised on how cheap it was!
Thank you now I know where to go if I go to Korea this summer although they probably won't do my hair that well :/ I doubt they get a lot of people with really thick really curly hair but I kinda want to try that magic perm thing i've seen pictures and it looks really cool
Price of haircut went up in Korea quite a bit since last time I was there. (awhile back) but still it's cheaper than most first world considering all the service you get.
I'm half Asian and I've gotten the strong, coarse, thick hair from my Asian mother. Once, I compared it with the hair of a 100% Anglo. My hair was 4 times thicker than his. When I visit hairsalons, it's logically to cut off extra volume, so it doesn't just hang like a heavy curtain.
god, i wish i could remember. but i can only remember was that it was in seoul, and it was near where i got my double eyelid surgery. but i'll bet there are are a lot of salons that are just as amazing.
Martina, do you have any really good pics of your hair? I really like the cut and I want to take pictures with me next time I am at the salon so I can get a similar cut. Thanks!
Juno Hair Salon is everywhere, you can find like three around Sinchon area, and they are really good, really big, modern, but a little pricey compared to local ones (but not so expensive compared to other large chains...) Where to get hair cut in Korea? Everywhere if you are Korean, they are all really good and so cheap!!! but I also used to go to Juno Hair Salon or other chains for quality ;)
i was sooooo scared about my hair when i live in korea D: i have think curlyyyyyyyyyyyyyy hair that i get straightened at a place that specializes in my type of hair... so to know this place can do a "magic perm" ... im in love. im so excited.
Your hair looks awesome! I live in NYC and I'd never get a haircut that cheap unless I go to some random recommended salon in a neighborhood I've never been to :p.
@chromeheartss actually its hard to find that hair salon you want. but from what i heard theres a place for african-american hair in Itaewon, Seoul, so dont worry ! =p
I love how informational your vids are :D I'm going to be in Korea from April 13-May 4 and I plan on getting my haircut while I'm there, so thanks for the info! :3 I hope I can meet you and Simon while I'm there~! ^__^
Thanks for making all these videos! It's like a survival kit when I go to Korea. (which is soon and I'm excited)But how far is Bucheon from Seoul? Isn't that like in Busan?
juno hair is amazing! i will also recomand the one in sinchon. there you also get 10% if you are a student at either yonsei or the other universities located in sinchon. my favourite hairsalon!
thats so unlucky D: I live in England too, but I had half of my really long hair all chopped off, layers put in, sweepy fringe cut back in, on a dry cut and it only cost me £13.50. But it was outside of my town centre, so maybe see if you have a hairdressers in a suburban area? and i am aware that your comment was 4 months ago :L just wanted to reply to it. xx
I just want to know what your hair cut is called so I can go get it done here. At this point I just have to find various angles of your hair and take screen shots to take here locally. Which I found really stalkerish. I really, REALLY love your hair!
7 people are jealous that they had to spend a lot of money on their last haircut jk. But I have no idea why anyone would dislike this? I love watching these videos I get an idea where I wanna go when I visit Korea (:
@vanderwoodsen90 Actually hair of any kind is very different. Asian hair tends to be a bit more on the fine side, "western/caucasian" hair varies from fine / thin / thick / curly / straight etc., african / "black" hair tends to be more coarse, curly, etc. - it's not just the appearance and/or volume, however, the actual individual strands are different. Because of this, they all "handle" or "act" differently when cutting, dying, and/or styling and each type of hair has it's own products.
@manjubun86 it's because "service" price in Korea's pretty small.. ppl don't get paid as much and in Korea tips are non-existent except for in western expensive restaurants
I live in Flushing, NY which is kind of a little piece of Korea in NYC, the Korean Salon I go to knows how to deal with Non-Korean hair....thank god! It turns out that even in the United States some salons don't know how to deal with Non-Korean hair (I would say foreign hair but they're the foreigners in this case LOL).
Hey Martina, are you still going to Juno Hair now you live in Seoul or have you any new recommendations regarding "getting a haircut" in Korea!?:-) Thank you very much!
I went to another hair salon in a tiny backstreet in Myeongdong...there's an Evisu shop at the corner that had Yunho (DBSK) as their marketing figure for a while the past years, and the hair salon is on the opposite building - you have to go up a little stair anyways, i paid 20€ for cutting, washing and styling there, but like Martina said they were not used to non-korean hair haha.. poor girl who they sent to cut my hair XD but they were really nice!! ^^ and the outcome was good too
YAY~ This is actually really great because I'm so sick of the korean hair salon people telling me my hair is crap and they can't work with "white" hair. LOL~ Thank you :)
I have insanely long hair, a little over 2 feet and it's really thick so many hair salons even in the US have issues with it, I'll definitely have to put Juno to the test if I ever manage to get to korea, a digital perm would be so nice if someone could manage it. :D It's been done once and it took 3 people :(
$22 will get you a shampoo, cut and style and maybe drying the hair too in Idaho. But that is at a good salon on the lower end of good salons. We have a place that does the coffee and snacks and all the extras as well as an excellent hair cut and style for $80.
Cool. A simple trim (I have long straight hair without bangs) and dryblowing cost me 40-50 €. Styling easily cost up to 100 € -_-. At least there is free water or coffee (cup) too.
I have that problems everywhere though xD No matter where I get my hair done, they always mess it up, some bits are uneven, I get a nick of scissors in my ear, etc etc. Even when I draw things out for them, it's done done right. I've taken to only trusting myself with my hair, and that's a tad hard when you try to keep it short and in one certain style xD
@mOOnpEEls yea, but usually, in general case, foreign can just mean "caucasian," since Korea has a lot of caucasians in their tourist pool who actually spend money there.
@NoHeejin the income is pretty low considering Korea has 1. expensive food prices 2. expensive education costs for children 3. lower benefits and welfare for older adults 4. lower job security (common retirement age is around 50 yrs old for salarymen) 5. most working labor hours amongst the OEDC countries
Great! I can find salons cutting hair for about 20$ in my country (it's quite hard) but because my hair is curly it's kind of hard to find someone that knows to cut it well and isn't too expensive. So I wonder are they good at cutting curly hair too?
@sharjunkies it costed me $380 for magic volume perm with highlights in juno that's in atlanta, ga. the stylist told me i should change my style to digital perm next time and it would cost about the same (the price here really depends on how much hair you have and how long your hair is and I cut my hair short to shoulder length but i have a LOT of hair). They import the chemicals they use from korea so i imagine the cost would be half the price i paid here or even cheaper.
@lightsoffsun at least, i havent experienced that yet for 17 years in korea. because the hair salon i go dont do that. they do only what i want. thats why many young people go to there! of course there are many ajummas haha
@waynefoolx we received no compensation from Juno whatsoever. 1) We just really like their salon, and 2) people have asked us where to get their hair cut in Korea, so we wanted to answer that question.
@skatekoh Simon gets his hair cut and dyed there, too.
@Ohemgee35 To be honest, we don't know, because we never asked or seen them doing it.
@residentevil4life Same place. That's where Simon gets his done.
@slothaku It's our personal opinion.
Thank you! Thank you! I'm cutting my hair short and stylish for the first time (it's 14 inches right now) and I have been really, really nervous about maintaining my new cut when I go to Korea. You can't imagine what a relief this is!
do a hair salon segment in japan?
omgosh, you guys are so spot on about everything in this video. i'm from korean/japanese descent and I don't trust any other salon in korea (or in america... ). they know which hair cut flatters your face shape the most, and... you can't forget the little ginger treats!! woooo

I really like Martina´s hair. It´s so nice and original. It´s a good balance between short and a little length! ~ so cute.

Holly molly! 20 bucks for spa treatment. I want to live in Korea like, nao.
@gjie2cute shooting the video :D

My best haircut I ever had was also in Korea. It was actually at a military barbar shop off Camp Casey Army post. BEST HAIRCUT EVER.
most korean hair salons are around that price (or even less) for just a cut
just cutting usually comes with washing and styling.
it's the perms that get super super pricey...
all your videos make me want to move to Korea! you make it look so fun to live there!

all of your videos are amazing!!!! who knew foreign hair was different?!?!?!
Omg!!! No tip!!!! My mom's a hairstylist and i help her out. I live on tips!! Lol they did a really good job on your hair. It looks lovely!!

oh my~ please juno hair salon, do open in malaysia. i will definitely become your regular customer!
@chromeheartss actually its hard to find that hair salon you want. but from what i heard theres a place for african-american hair in Itaewon, Seoul, so dont worry ! =p
that shampooing looked like absolute heaven
You're hair are so beautiful Martina! and all of it for only 20$. I want those Juno Hair Salon in montreal too !!!
I love how informational your vids are :D
I'm going to be in Korea from April 13-May 4 and I plan on getting my haircut while I'm there, so thanks for the info! :3
I hope I can meet you and Simon while I'm there~! ^__^
@101MrFunnykid You mean "straightening perm"? If it is a straightening perm then cost varies but it will be usually cheaper than you expected.
Thanks for making all these videos! It's like a survival kit when I go to Korea. (which is soon and I'm excited)But how far is Bucheon from Seoul? Isn't that like in Busan?
This salon seems so awesome!
I love your hair Martina. It's sooo cute!
@1eetskillz
indian, not asian, which is all of the asian countries such as indonesia, israel, mongolia, oman, etc.
they are all very different.
love the style of this video and the editing :)
Love the scalp massages that the trainees give you while they wash your hair. :)
juno hair is amazing! i will also recomand the one in sinchon. there you also get 10% if you are a student at either yonsei or the other universities located in sinchon. my favourite hairsalon!
Totally helpful! Hopefully I can go there someday!
thats so unlucky D: I live in England too, but I had half of my really long hair all chopped off, layers put in, sweepy fringe cut back in, on a dry cut and it only cost me £13.50.
I really, REALLY love your hair!
that's amazing! the price is cheaper than here in America! Here I get my haircut, shampoo and blow dry is about $34
7 people are jealous that they had to spend a lot of money on their last haircut jk. But I have no idea why anyone would dislike this? I love watching these videos I get an idea where I wanna go when I visit Korea (:
Awesome , this place sounds great...if only I could find one on the east coast, sadly they only have one of west : /
@vanderwoodsen90 Actually hair of any kind is very different. @wingsofhope2 yeah. $1 is about 1000 won. they are pretty equivalent most of the time.
@manjubun86 it's because "service" price in Korea's pretty small.. ppl don't get paid as much and in Korea tips are non-existent except for in western expensive restaurants

@1eetskillz Actually Spanish or Portugese I heard fetches the highest price in the wig market.
I went to another hair salon in a tiny backstreet in Myeongdong...there's an Evisu shop at the corner that had Yunho (DBSK) as their marketing figure for a while the past years, and the hair salon is on the opposite building - you have to go up a little stair
anyways, i paid 20€ for cutting, washing and styling there, but like Martina said they were not used to non-korean hair haha.. poor girl who they sent to cut my hair XD but they were really nice!! ^^ and the outcome was good too

Cool. A simple trim (I have long straight hair without bangs) and dryblowing cost me 40-50 €. Styling easily cost up to 100 € -_-. At least there is free water or coffee (cup) too.
As always, thanks for this informative and fun video!!

@mOOnpEEls yea, but usually, in general case, foreign can just mean "caucasian," since Korea has a lot of caucasians in their tourist pool who actually spend money there.
I need to go to Korea to get my hair cut. It's so difficult finding a salon in the States adept at cutting my Korean hair.
@Scurvyforall - My friends say Itaewon. + there a short list of salons in a few other places in Korea that they recommend. Google helps some, too!
@lightsoffsun at least, i havent experienced that yet for 17 years in korea. because the hair salon i go dont do that. they do only what i want. thats why many young people go to there! of course there are many ajummas haha
do u still recommend it now? are there others? thanks!
Totally doing this when I go to Korea! Thanks!
Oh I just saw you on Arirang! So cool! I like your videos, keep up the good work!
