    I do thousands of discs in my jfj. Gamecube games are like 50/50 and really temperamental. Id run that back through. Basically never use 1 or 2 minute settings unless a disc is really bad and even then id avoid it and opt to run it at 10 or 20 a few times and check the condition between each time.

      I tried one more light run and then for the heck of it, tried what someone said and used the fine sandpaper for 10 seconds, rebuffed for 10 seconds, and then tried again. It wouldn't even read beyond the GameCube loading screen. Good news is though so far all the others I have done have gone 20 second buffs and look great and have worked with no issue. And have already sold! Thanks for watching!

    Another thing you need to do is get a powerful LED flashlight and shine it behind the disc, through the label.
    If you see any pinpoints of light, that is damage to the label side of the disc, and could mean the disc is irreparably damaged.

    I know you were using the GameCube adapter plate but were you also using the gamecube pads? They are a different size than the standard pads (buffing or sanding) that come with the JFJ.

    I've been using one of these for about 6 months and done thousands of discs. A few tips I would give is to buy a couple of very thin (1mm) rubber/silicone washers to sit on both sides of the discs. This stops any risks of middle scratches around the screw section. I also discovered after trying loads that most can be easily cleaned with the white liquid, blue was almost pointless unless it was really deep scratches. Those you need the sandpaper for but you risk marking them.
    I'd also suggest spraying water every so often on the sponge as you go and only use it for 45 minutes at a time. Otherwise it gets too hot and the powder goes everywhere. The sponges can be expensive so I used their box to cut a matching circlular piece with a suitable hole in the middle, then stuck some sticky back double sided velcro on to stick it to the black base in the unit as this will give you a bit more of a lift and extra life out of the sponges.

    4:25 The Xbox 360 games are DVD based, so the data layer is sandwiched between two pieces of plastic (can't buff it off) more likely you friction burned the disc and it warped (I did that to a few discs when I first started with this machine)

    I hate the machines' compounds as they tend to leave marks on the discs, and I use Meguiar's Ultimate Compound.
    I get much better results using that.
    I also never use the sandpaper at the recommended times, as it's too much. 2 rounds of 3 seconds it more than enough.
    And I always spray some water on both disc and buffing pad before polishing, as well as on the disc before sanding it.
    Gives WAY better results.

Gamecube are extremely hit or miss for me so I prefer to go with the least harsh method. If u ever ever clean Gamecube games and don't want to buy the accessories for the JFJ easy pro u could still refurbish them I did it with maybe 5 discs 2 sports titles for experimental research and later on with a copy of Paper Mario which I almost didn't do to me being scared but it clean it alright has some small scratches but it was an old disc a friend gave it to me and didn't to care of it it works before but I wanted to clean it
    Warnings tho
    If u gonna use soft used soft sandpaper for 10 seconds that's it
    After that remove the disc and clean the machine cause ill leave a black stain on the disc trait it doesn't damage the disc
    2 used the white paste and apply on the pat 10 seconds also it may reduce the use of the pat since it's using half of it and it may turn blackish
    Same with the blue one might turn blackish it may not clean it perfectly might leave some smallish scratches but ill play the disc I haven't tried 20 secs if someone did let me know but I got 5 games looking brand new and some of them were pretty old
    Luigi's mansion
    Paper Mario
    Mario Sunshine
    Sports title
    Yugioh the false bound kingdom
    I recommend searching other videos like this one and get to know the machine better in other cases like ps2 games and Wii games if the searches are too deep or noticeable used the core sandpaper for 10 secs that's it and used the others for 10 secs that goes for Gamecube games to 10 secs that's it

    What is the difference between a sanding pad and a buffing pad

    • @Cakeinacave
      @Cakeinacave  3 года назад +2

      The sanding pad is literally a kind of sandpaper that will wear off layers of the disc. The buffing pads do that as well but not nearly to the depth that the sandpaper will do. I have only tried using it once actually and that was on a disc that had just a huge number of deep scratches. Didn't help unfortunately. I have been thinking of buying a lot of really cheap games from a thrift store that are wrecked and see if I can figure out some good methods for fixing the really bad ones!

      @JohnnyU-sj5gb 3 года назад

      @@JohnnyU-sj5gb Its the white side! The blank side is the velcro side that sticks to the sander disc inside. You should get 2 white pads and 2 sanding pads in every kit. • @Cakeinacave
      @Cakeinacave  3 года назад +1

      I will give you my "experience based technical guess" on this, because I too have had discs that looked beyond playable at first yet they worked.....until I decided to clean them and suddenly they no longer functioned properly or at all. When you resurface a disc, you are grinding off a very fine layer of the material, even with the soft pads. And at some point, you can actually grind off enough of the surface to destroy the data. The side of the disc that is read is made up of tiny microscopic bumps so it's very possible if you sand down to far, or if the disc was produced in a cheaper manner, that even just one resurfacing of the disc could destroy enough of the surface to make the data hard or impossible for the unit to read it anymore. The shininess of the disc won't really have anything to do with the ability to play discs properly, and the shiner it gets, the more of the disc surface that is being removed obviously.
      With a PS1 game (I'm assuming it's the black bottom style disc) I would go very slow with the resurfacing. Maybe even in 20 second bursts. Test it after each resurfacing and see. Of course, that could be hard to do just because if you have a situation where the disc worked before you resurfaced it, you might possibly be destroying data that won't be read until much later in the game being played. I find that resurfacing discs becomes a kind of art and balance between knowing when a few scratches really don't effect the game but sanding it down might make things worse. I seriously had a Gamecube game that looked like someone took it and rubbed in face down across sandpaper. But it played fine. I decided to resurface it to look better for resale, and the disc never read again.

    • @BENVAFabri
      @BENVAFabri 3 года назад

      @@Cakeinacave Thanks for your reply. I will take your tips into account because I think they work for the PS1 these are the black discs but I don't think they are made with cheaper plastic I read online they are more sturdy than PS2 discs for example because of a coating. I tried 6 games of which 4 I was able to save. But 2 of those ran worse after buffing and polishing. One Game I had to buff more and suddenly it worked the other I did the same thing but wouldn't work then I contacted customer support because I was considering returning the machine because 3 of 6 games ruined that's not why I paid so much money for this. Then just for the heck of it I used the soft sanding paper on that disc for 10 sec, 20 buffing and 20 polishing and you never guess the game was working. I test all ps1 games by ripping them to a computer if that works 100% the disc and data on it should be fine. You can also do this for PS2 and in your case because you mention the Gamecube you can apparently do this with a modded Wii system but how that works I don't know. All I can say you are right it's an art and it takes a lot of trail and error I will try some more games tomorrow before I decide to send back the JFJ or not. I bought the machine not to resell but to restore my game collection and if a game in my collection doesn't work, it kinda hurts even though it's just a piece of plastic replacing them can be expensive.

      Yes, Gamecube games are my worst experience with this to be honest. I have taken to just doing the 20 second repair (and sometimes JUST the 20 second buffing option ONLY) because I've lost more than 1 Gamecube game. It was crazy because they were scratched to hell and back and played fine. But one single resurfacing cycle and they stopped working. So I have adopted the less is more approach and do them in very small amounts.

      Just off the top of my head it sounds like maybe the spring that holds the arm holding CD is either loosened, or too tight, or possibly you may have to replace the buffing pad if it worn or crusty at the edges. It sounds like the edge of the pad is somehow creating the swirls that you are seeing, either from age or from the pressure the CD is being pressed into the pad with.
      I had a similar issue when I switched the disc to the one made specifically for holding Nintendo GameCube games. When I swapped it back out for the standard size, I remember I didn't tighten the nut enough and it kind of gave me some funky results. So that's along the lines of what I'm thinking. Obviously if you're using a new pad or the unit is relatively new This probably isn't the issue but let's start with that info and see if it helps?
