I mean to be fair if you’re in a stressful situation you would ideally empty the first mag. Which means it wouldn’t really matter about how hard or soft you press unless you’re just looking to prematurely release & waste ammo. a quick reload is a quick reload. Only sleight of hand reloading benefits from the demonstrated mag release functionality of the build or just proper thumb placement as you pull the mag down your thumb would slide over the button resulting in a smooth “soft press” action.
i like the ar controls a lot, and the soft/hard press for that front mag makes me want to treat it as a panic reload button rather than the main mag release
Hopefully they fixed the AR style release on this. I have the OG raider, and the AR mag release is so gritty and hard to push it’s unusable. Also it’s not in front of the trigger like an AR either, it’s forward and below so you have to break your grip to use it. There’s one more mag release lever in a standard pistol thumb position (the 2-stage release activates it) and that’s my go-to. Works good and feels good.
I thought about it, and it seems you have to press the front button (at least lightly) to release the magazine in the foregrip. In a self-defense scenario, I don’t see myself needing to eject the extra front magazine unless the one already in the pistol is out of rounds. Realistically, I’ll only need to press the foregrip magazine release button all the way in, which some say could happen unintentionally when full of adrenaline. However, if you’re full of adrenaline, pressing the button all the way is exactly what you need since you would only need to eject the front magazine when your first magazine is out. I want one bad!

To be fair, a soft press would really only ever be used in an administrative manner when you're not under stress. Any time you would be pressing the switch under stress would involve a mag change, so the hard press works well.
@AnonymousVenator from what he said. The soft press is the only way to drop only the front mag. So that's its point pretty much. Like how the ar style button only drops the rear mag.
The only situation where it could be useful is if you know you're running low on your main magazine I'm talking you know you have two or maybe three rounds left in a 30-round magazine and you're in a situation where you don't want to give your position away because you're not ready with capacity for sustained fire you can drop your main mag with only two rounds in it and put in a fresh 30 and re-engage I'm just trying to think of crazy scenarios where the soft press hard press could be useful
That all sounds super not complicated and easy to train and remember under stress. I’m sure there’s no chance of dropping two full mags in the dirt at the press of a button.
Wouldn't matter anyway. If you needed to drop the front mag, it's probably to drop the feeder mag too. The soft press is just a gimmick that they probably couldn't fix because the bar is too long. So they made it into a "feature".
Is there an easy way to rack the slide manually other than having to reach your hand over the setup / optic for the front serrations? Seems like clearing a malfunction would be a lot more difficult or if your slide failed to lock back on your last shot.
The soft press/hard press thing is not ideal. Everyone rightly points out that under stress, a hard press makes more sense to drop the mag since you will be switching anyway.
