I agree. And also very Aquarian what with all the jazz fusion and progressive rock going on. Not to mention all the jazz-blues and blues-jazz festivals... Wish I could have been a musician during those years. I'm curious what a mundane astrologer would have to say about those times, musically or otherwise.

The only reason people bash this band/album is because they sound like Yes. You might as well bash all of the greatest blues rock bands because they sound like Jimi Hendrix. I'm a huge Yes fan and there's still plenty of reason to listen to this gem of an album.

"Toward The Sun" is the debut album from Druid, a mid 70's prog-psych-rock band from England, who came to public attention by winning a 1974 unsigned band contest orchestrated by Melody Maker magazine. Because of the contest the band went on to perform on 'The Old Grey Whistle Test' TV show and then went on to record 2 albums. After the demise of Druid, bassist Neil Brewer and singer Dane Stevens briefly formed the Never Never Band with a more commercial sound, while drummer Cedric Sharpley went on to play with singer Gary Numan in the band Tubeway Army. Keys player Andrew McCrorie-Shand went on to work with other performers of the era such as Curved Air, Leo Sayer, Sally Oldfield, Billy Ocean and Sarah Brightman. After living the rock n' roll life, McCrorie-Shand then began to work for the children's production company Ragdoll Productions, and composed music for TV shows such as Teletubbies, Brum, Tots TV, Boohbah, Rosie and Jim, The Adventures of Abney & Teal, Twirlywoos, B.O.T., Popshop and the Beasties. He has not returned for the remake of Teletubbies, although the new show features orchestral versions of his original theme. Later, after years in the music business, bassist Neil Brewer then became the third host of the children's TV show 'Rosie and Jim' from 1997-2000."
    DRUID:
    *Dane Stevens - Guitars, Vocals
    *Andrew McCrorie-Shand - Keys
    *Neil Brewer - Bass
    *Cedric Sharpley - Drums, Percussion

The number of incredible bands from the 70s seems endless but of course you eventually run out. AFTER digging up another 3,000 great albums! Druid is obviously Yes-influenced but have their own great sound. GREAT Mellotron, a huge favorite of mine. Dane's voice is so high, though, maybe the highest male voice ever. Yes (no pun intended) even higher than Jon Anderson. Not my cuppa tea but he fits their sound perfectly. They came too late to ride the progressive rock popularity wave, but they're a nice addition for all collectors of fine, golden era prog. Thanks for posting this!

I saw them at Leeds Polytechnic. They were promoted by the great Bob Harris of Old Grey Whistle Test fame (he may even have been the album's producer). Haven't heard the album for years, but am enjoying re-acquainting myself with it. Thanks for posting.

This is a mostly ignored and criminally underrated Prog album . OK so the Yes influence is obvious but the composition and musicianship are second to none . Got this on it's release after seeing them on the OGWT and was mightily impressed . Sadly their second album "Fluid " was in my opinion a disappointment never scaling the heights of this outstanding debut .

Not just the lesser known, I love most of them but Gabriel would often have to strain his voice, Lake would connect word endings and lose intonation because of it, Dream Theatre's vocalist is not liked by many too, King Crimson's other vocalist, Wetton, had an alcoholic's voice; objectively there are probably more. Look at Steely Dan too! I love them all anyway :D

It's pleasant, if highly derivative. They clearly wanted to be Yes but lacked the required virtuosity.

There's plenty of virtuosity here, in fact more than you've ever had or ever will. Just being honest

I hear shades of this in Glass Hammer... beautiful symphonic progressive rock. Lots of brilliantly played Hammond, beautiful Mellotron. Fantastic stuff! I wish I'd known of Druid... err, decades ago. Why people slag this off as a Yes bite... so epphing WHAT! I love Yes; obviously so did these guys (the singer - what needeth be saidyawl). If you enjoy something, isn't THIS all that matters??

L' ARTWORK di copertina di chi è ??? Dato che la band si avvicinava stilisticamente abbastanza agli YES perché non hanno incaricato ROGER DEAN a fare le copertine ???
