Todd Boehly doesn't have the money to buy out Clearlake nor be able to run Chelsea alone. We'll get better I'm not fussed right now. This club needs to stop buying 15 players a window. So I'm hopeful after this season we'll stop this madness then we can start to look at the progression of the team.

    • @shivamUTC
      @shivamUTC Месяц назад +17

Todd may not have the money, but guy has all the connections in the world. Remember, it was Todd who first brought Clearlake into his team to buy Chelsea.
Also Todd himself has a net worth of 8.5-9 billion so I don’t think it will be very difficult for him to arrange the money to present a proposition to Clearlake, reports are saying he has the backing of a lot of investors.

14:13 I think Yan just summed it up here. Our whole identity under Roman was "Win us a trophy". That relied more so on the manager than it did the squad, technical staff and owner. There's a lot of pride and joy that came with it but looking back I can say that it was pretty shallow lol. It proved unsustainable towards the end with the gap between us and City/Pool widening. Also the club wasn't making any kind of profit anymore either and we were lucky that Roman had deep pockets.
It's going to be a bloodbath for number 1 when Pep retires but I feel fairly confident that we'll emerge supreme with Clearlake. Arsenal are going to be found out this season and Liverpool will' be our main competitor.

It feels like nobody can match city without also cheating to a crazy level. Lol I'm a Chelsea fan, so I'm down for that. But I do like the idea of trying to do it "right", and as much as I hate them, I think that we have to look at how liverpoo and arsenal have got to that position of at least being competitive..

8:46 TBH with you Yan we seem to find it convenient to remember what conditions Poch was working under with the players not knowing each other new players coming in. Having to do deal with a large group of players. I believe a lot of Chelsea supporters have a problem with Poch because he was from spurs. what the fans don't realise is one of the board members is a massive Tottenham fan and try to buy spurs off Daniel. I'm not taking sides when it comes to this ownership.I just want stability and our main problem is we have a great team full of individuals and not a team. That's what worries me about the contracts being incentivised. It could lead to players beginning greedy and not passing to players in better positions. focusing on bonus.

Team clearlake all the way. They have bought in immense potential in youth. More than any other team in the world. Massively reduced our wages. We are the best financially run club in England. They have doubled down by bringing in players who chelsea fans would have wanted under Roman - Nkunku, Neto, Felix, Palmer, Sancho, Caceido, Gusto etc. Great experience. They almost nearly got Osihmen. No doubt will in January. The manager is looking like qaulity.
Chelsea are so close to exploding onto the scene winning loads. Eggbali knows extactly what he is doing. Its an incredible time. 2 seasons of dirt performances is nothing. This year will be a huge improvement and clearlake will wrap it all up next year. There is literally nothing terrible to criticise unless you are off weak sensitive emotional mind.

Can't believe most fans favor Boehly when he set us back 2 yrs with poor early player & coaching decisions (even wanted to keep Poch!) and everything has improved since he stepped aside, as he knows less about the sport than Clearlake staff. Just because he owns 20% of the Dodgers and resembles a lovable sheepdog it's clear his firm and Clearlake are in the same business, and no such firm buys a football team for ongoing near-term profit (unless you're the Glazers) you do so only to: a) be close to a sport you appreciate and b) Sell in 10 yrs for a huge profit, possible ONLY with sporting success. Had Todd run further amok we'd likely have likes of both Ronaldo & Casemiro on 750k/wk. The Clearlake approach, despite clear mistakes, is more efficient, quite fascinating, but needs 3+ years (from the Boehly-induced Maresca reset) to even begin to assess.

Just look at the richest club in the world, in Newcastle, and how they can’t buy the players they want (due to PSR). It is a new era and way of running a clubs. Chelsea's biggest weakness since 2019 has been the business side of building the squad. Whomever is in charge of negotiating contracts never seems to understand that once young players start fulfilling their potential they'll expect salaries comparable with elite players. This has lead Chelsea to waste tens if not hundreds of millions of pounds replacing Cobham-graduates who were sold for 'pure profit'. Compare the fees received for Guehi and Tomori to what was spent signing Disasi and Fofana.
Maresca's signing is relective of the lack of coherency between the football and operations departments. It makes no sense switching styles completely if the idea is to build a squad around a philosophy and hire head coach who fits into that philosophy. It seems that Chelsea has reverted to a manager-centric model. Now they've had to shelf Chilwell and sell Maatsen and Gallagher. Chelsea now has KDH who is not younger or better than Gallagher. When Maresca leaves Chelsea will have to buy a another set of leftbacks.

  • @ironicvirus1496

Yan, if we did a combined 23 man squad, here's how it would look for me:
    Raya

    Sanchez
    James
    Gusto
    Gabriel
    Saliba
    Colwill
    White
    Cucurella
    Timber
    Rice
    Caicedo
    Odegaard
    Jorginho
    Lavia
    Nkunku
    Saka
    Neto
    Palmer
    Madueke
    Jackson
    Havertz
I put White as a CB as right now, he's better than Fofana as just a defender. Nkunku as competing with Odegaard as an attacking midfielder.
So that's 12/23 that's Chelsea and 11 obviously for Arsenal

Yes, agreed the first transfer window was a bit of a mess. But you also have to remember that Chelsea was officially allowed to be active in the market after a month. Of course it was a time of huge transition. Marina leaving, Peter leaving with other key figures in the club. We had lost Rudiger, Christiansen and some more already. Todd didn’t get any in built sporting structure to rely on. Out of all the shareholders he is the only guy with sporting background to step in and get some players in. I am pretty sure if he had a strong sporting director he would’ve taken a step back and work as a chairman to get things done. I feel like judging him just based on that is unfair.

Fans were happy with last five games but those wins are not enough to retain his position if we want a wining mentality not just friendly or competitive vibes. I did not feel he was bold enough to win even it means not beefing nice to players or media. I think being a winner at the top level requires wise and bold decisions and such could sometimes be interpreted as being ruthless.

Eghbali is the complete opposite he wants a profit and does not care too much about winning more about being profitable. The Osimhen transfer was handled by Eghbali, this is how most of our transfers will go with Clearlake at the helm, we will buy young players 10-15 and sell them for 5-10 mill more than what we bought them for and the use a few in our squad. Played Enzo further up the pitch which we all know stinks because Enzo is doing the same crap. Plus he genuinely contributed to the overall injury crisis by over training the players and his Klopp-esque style of play despite our players being the more technical, possession style players. If he'd been from our academy, he would've been sold. But the reality is, we can't sell him. Likewise Enzo Fernandez. Wesley Fofana. Sterling at 30 mil earning 325k per week is also not easy to move.
And that's why we should stop making those big transfers and frankly do smarter business.

The choices are Clearlake (who see cfc as a business) vs Boehly (who sees cfc as a sports team). If clearlake takes over, we will gradually become spurs, with a focus on the business end. We will see how this plays out, but 2 sporting directors make no sense!

I see so many people, pardon my French, babbling about how great it would be to go back to mindless purchases of big names, as if that really solves all the issues. Look at the squad. What big holes are there? There really aren't many. We need backup defenders that don't suck, we arguably need a more classic striker as an alternative to Jackson, and we need a proper goalkeeper. That's about it, isn't it?
What we have isn't a bad squad that need big, huge names to function. What we have is a ridiculous amount of talent that need a sensible manager to work. And that squad will get even better over the next couple of years, in part because some of the kids we bought transition into adults, and on top we're adding a couple of the most ridiculous talents in the entirety of world football.
We don't need big honking transfers. All that does is tie our hands behind our backs. Every time we try the big honking transfers of those big honking names, it ends up being a disaster. I don't like treating players like commodities but that BS approach has allowed us to very rapidly put enough money into overhauling our squad without violating any rules, and the main obstacle we've had are actually the big honking transfers that we should not have made that constitute such an enormous drain on our economy.
I like Todd more than I like Eghbali, but if it's a question of more year 1 windows vs our year 2-3 windows then I'm definitely on team 2-3. If it's a question of being a big spender like PSG vs being pretty much self-sustaining like Liverpool, I'm on team Liverpool. I much prefer a business that can stand on its own legs over one that needs to be held up artificially. And most importantly, if it's a question of being an independent club versus a state-owned PR zombie, I much prefer to remain independent.

"Every time we try the big honking transfers of those big honking names, it ends up being a disaster." ... I sense lot of fans have PTSD over this from Roman era. But those transfers failed (at least in my opinion) not because of the money we spent but because of our lack of clinical scouting / recruitment. The budget signings can fail too. Remember Djilobodji? Or Sarr more recently?
It's more Real Madrid vs Liverpool model. Not PSG. No one is against signing young potentials, just balance them out with signings that can deliver now. Not in a hypothetical future.

This squad is unlikely to win anything major. It is OK, but it looks like a mid-table squad. It is not good enough to challenge City, Liverpool or Arsenal. Abramovich built teams and hired managers to win major trophies and compete with Real, Barcelona, and Bayern. We can forget about that.
