Geologist here. Dolomite is like limestone, but is a magnesium carbonate instead of a calcium carbonate. Both react to acid, although dolomite is a little less reactive (have to scratch it and kind of powder it a bit before it will react). Marble is just metamorphosed (recrystallized) limestone, so also calcium carbonate. Dolomite can be quite soft and porous. Any kind of stone that is mostly made from silicate minerals ("granites" and quartzites) will always be more durable. That being said, your slab looks like it has a combination of minerals, some different carbonates and maybe a bit of quartz. The blues and greens are from some oxidation of copper sulfide minerals (now copper carbonate/copper oxide). Fun fact: Dolomite is named after the Dolomite mountains in Italy.
Personally, I would get the slab that made me happy, and just take steps to protect it from damage.
Thanks for your interesting comment. How majestic are the Dolomites.
I was wondering if it was named for the Dolomites! Thanks for all the info... love learning tidbits like that!
@XOMaCenna this comment is so informative!
@melissaanderson9929 Thank you for the interesting information! I will look at Rudy Ray’s character differently in the future!
My 4yr old just called across the room “Mum!! Are you watching MaCenna?? What’s the baby’s name? Is he here yet?! I told him no not yet so he replied “okay make sure you watch until the end of the video we might see the baby” 😂
Lies.
So cute !!
That's so sweet! 🥰
hahahah thats so cuteeeeeee
Cutest!
That slab is a piece of art, are you joking. MaCenna…. you need to get it 😭 and have the extra as bathroom counters or even a backsplash just behind the hood!
The slab having specs of blue made me giggle. It seems like this house has been giving you reasons and reminders to love blue! 😭🤭🤭
Lol thought of "cornflower blue" with the specs of blue 💜💙💚💛🧡
so trueeeeeeeee
it's like it was made for the house...love that!
ok, what's going on with macenna? She's never late!!
Yes, I too am worried. I'm wondering if she's had the baby early, definitely a cause for concern. If that is the case, I do hope everything is progressing well and that we'll hear something -- even briefly -- soon. I hope she knows that we are all thinking of her.
Yes, I'm thinking the same. Just hope all OK!
Community tab guys!!! Check it out !
Romeo with the dad walk hands behind the back I’m dying 😂😂😂 u guys are so ready to be parents I love it
The slab is gorgeous. I kinda wish people wouldn’t worry so much about the natural aging of stone, though. Think of all those old pieces of marble you find and how much you love them. They have been used since forever for a reason. Just live with them and use them and don’t be overly precious about them. I get the same with my wood counters. People ask me all the time about stains and damage …. It’s my kitchen. It’s where I feed my family and we share so much love and laugher, and tears and heartbreak, and everything in between. Stains and dents and scratches tell the story of lives lived. They’re not imperfections, they’re memories.
Natural aging is different than discoloring when exposed to water, heat, pasta sauce, etc.
People serve food on kitchen counter tops too, cleanliness is paramount! Family and friends prefer eating from a clean kitchen…you still have the memories.
I soo agree with you. Beside EVERYTHING in kitchen gets old why you want your stone counters to stay perfect?
To me that sticks like a sore thump.
This! the marble and wood floors that everyone admires in castles etc surely didn't have any special treatment on it. Discoloring and other 'wounds' are just adding to the wabi-sabi beauty of natural - hence vulnerable - objects!
What a beautiful thought
The dolomite as backsplash over the stove and then tile on the rest of the walls would be absolutely stunning. The cabinetry stain colours are in (coming) Sunday's video?
Can't wait to see it love❤️
I feel like you were just 30 weeks! You are so beautiful pregnant! So happy for you guys and for you that you are on that home stretch!! Get sleep now! ❤️❤️❤️
aww thank you so much! time is flyyyyyyyying
Random but man... it just fascinates me where slabs come from....! I've been getting into my geology kick this year, watching youtube geology lectures and videos, learning about the age of stones and their properties... But slabs are so fragile and so LARGE, I'd LOVE to find out how they get them from the raw state, quarry location to a "finished slab" for countertops and stuff...! A quick Google and I'm like OH, a lot of those quartz countertops are actually composite, and made from stone remnants and industrial waste, which is kinda cool in itself...! Recycling and all. Must be impressive to see that get done! But a full natural marble slab, THAT must be interesting to see how they cut it without breaking it. Again, thanks Google, found some videos and WOW. If you're a nerd like me, go check it out, slab quarries are kind of insane!? xD
i'm totally with you! they are mesmerizing to me! I actually wanted to be a gemologist or geologist when i was a little girl because i was so in awe of what the earth could create!
No new vlog for 10 days.... it makes me think... has the baby boy arrived early? Please let as know. Lots of love to you.
Am very sick in hospital bed. Had 22 pound ovarian cyst removed the day this was posted then had internal bleed and almost died. Spent yesterday very out of it and was so annoyed cause I was with it enought to see my notifications and knew MaCenna had posted vid but was toosick/exhausted to watch. Today I actually sat up to watch. Yay.
😅 a true fan over here!! I hope you get well soon!! Big hug!
@@sobres123456thank you. I feel miles better than I did a week ago.
Your bump is beautiful!!!! Baby boy is growing fast ❤️❤️❤️
you could do a full blackspash just behind the oven with the pasta arm?? that way you use the leftovers and make it a statement!
Something like what Drew (Lone Fox) did right? Looking at all the beautiful stone gives me all the good feels 💜💙💚💛🧡
Countertop shopping is my favorite part of the design process. Quartzite is my all time favorite stone, dolomite a close second!!! I worked for almost two years in a slab showroom and loved it. One thing that I tried to remind my customers was to imagine what it would look like once it’s cut up, especially if you’re not going to have an island with a big chunk of isolated slab.
Use the remaining slab behind your range as a back splash. We did that in our recent remodel and I LOVE it!
watching on my wedding day while they do my hair/makeup!! u help me relax lol ❤❤❤❤
So exciting. Only 2 to 5 weeks left before baby arrives. It seems like you just announced your pregnancy. Time fly's.
Fly’s 😂😂😂 I love it
@@PHcute Had a friend who had the neatest clock - the hands had a fly (plastic) on the each end and on the face was written in cursive "Time flies". 🤣
I don't think I have ever clicked anything faster then I just did. 😂
Same here...I actually paused another video when I saw this video was on 💜💙💚💛🧡
hahhahahha
All I seen was XO, and that's all it took. Happy to look at all the pretty stones to make the cozy rainy spring day even cozier. 😊
I did the opposite. I waited until I had plenty of time to pause and look at all the stones. When MaCenna shops, I shop, too. And I need the full experience! 😂
Maybe you can get a good price on the damaged slab for the second one if the contractor tells you to buy 2.
Getting closer and closer everyday to completing your kitchen-stone top is gorgeous absolutely love the blue in it! Can not wait til this baby boy is here so excited for you and Romeo and little miss Kinsley! Im praying she isnt jealous 🙏🙏🙏
Hope all is well with you MaCenna. Miss your vlogs.
As an interior designer, I wanted my clients to feel about their stone exactly how you felt when you found the Dolomite. I always started with the stone first too. Love your show. ❤
Marble is durable. It’s been used for hundreds of years in kitchens, bathrooms, steps and floors etc. It patinas over time and adds incredible character to any space. I think it ages beautifully ❤ However it is expensive.
Just remember it needs to be sealed because marble can stain.
I think you mean granite. If you don't mind as stone showing wear and developing a patina. It is softer than granite and yes it will stain. Don't cut or let citrus on it because it will etch it
my dads had marble in his house for at least 15 years and it’s so pretty. There are some areas that need buffing but if Michelangelo could make his busts and figures last hundreds of years, then i think it’s good for kitchen counters 😄
@@mmmonkayMarble cost my friend $1500 to buff out a spaghetti sauce stain. Nope on marble.
@@lauriebriggs9705 I agree! Marble its a hard no for me
You walked into the stone yard and I got goosebumps!! Love it!!
me toooooo hahah
You're so near to baby now ❤ It's gone so quickly.
I've had a new fridge freezer delivered today and my son whose 9 told his Grandma (my Mum) I'm "doing a MaCenna" ie doing the kitchen up😅.
The dolomite stone is gorgeous. You had a « coup de cœur » (love at first sight) reaction. It’s so amazing when you do renos and you find your inspo getting manifested. I’ve had it happen a few times and it’s always special and exciting.
That blue colour looks STUNNING on you.
You could use the hole they cut for the sink as a large trivet for the table.
I agree with those that say get the one that makes your heart sing. It will be the center of so many memories. ❤
I’m in love with slab shopping. I feel like I need to go to window shop even though I have no renovations going on, lol.
Baby boy is growing in leaps and bounds!💙💙
You are absolutely glowing!!
when you showed *the* stone my jaw dropped… i can’t even imagine how gorgeous it is in person wow
omg i was literally in shock by its beauty! like the video and photos just don't do it justice at all
@@xomacennavlogs it’s stunning! the kitchen is coming together so beautifully, can’t wait to see the finished result! wishing you all the best with renovations and baby boy❤️
I have had all my in my house for five years. We love it, we have had coffee spills and wiped it up the next morning and perfectly fine wine. I wipe up right away, but no changing of color. It is easily crack. I’ve cut it and I have lines in it now from the cutting without using a cutting board. But I do love the way mine looks.
you can make the stone go up the wall behind the stove
The slab is unbelievable! It's like a picture. Or better to say, a Miyadzaki cartoon.
Love ur beautiful baby bump. And we all cannot wait to see him. He's gonna be so beautiful. You guys are gonna be amazing parents. Xo And you got a post pictures or a short video of kinsley with him, of course.❤❤❤❤❤
That slab you selected is beautiful. I have a leathered dolomite in my kitchen and I love it. When selecting it I was concerned about the softness based on my research but I had them cut me a sample and I did all the wear test at home well before install and that eased my concerns well before install. It really is quite durable and I love having a stone you don't see everywhere.
My husband always asks “is the bump on?” Lol. He gets so excited about your videos. I do too of course!
You are glowing..what gorgeous parents you will be.. miss your mum!!
Love what you picked out for your counter tops! Very pretty! Wow …. You need to wear blue more often… that blue dress made your eyes really stand out! Can’t believe you are 35 weeks…. Wow that time went by so fast on this end of things…. Did it go by fast for you? Just wanted to mention how stinkin cute Romeo is… you guys make such a beautiful couple…. Your baby boy is going to be so beautiful!!!! Can’t wait to see the update on your new kitchen…. Take care… see you on Sunday?
I love the Dolomite❤❤❤❤❤ it will look amazing in the kitchen with the cabinets ( picture I’ve seen in your videos). Baby Boy is coming soon💙💙💙💙💙💙. I am so excited for the baby and the kitchen remodel. Have an amazing week ❤❤
Girl you make pregnancy look so easy and glamorous!
omg hahah thank you so much! I definitely feel like after my 1st trimester i've had a really smooth great pregnancy! i'm very grateful cause i had no idea what to expect
I love seeing you find the piece that you can’t live without, when you know you know! This kitchen is going to be BEYOND!!🥰❤️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I did the drywall mudding in my mom’s basement renovation after her contractor’s sub contractors kept falling through and eventually the contractor fell through too. Anyways!! The plumbing/HVAC, company my mom always hires was through assessing for finishing the plumbing I wouldn’t do prior to inspections, and the owner of the company asked who did our drywall mudding, mom said me, he told me they needed someone good on their team, would I like a few jobs? HELL NO!!!! But always 💫✨THANK YOU✨💫!! Told him I wasn’t cost efficient as a perfectionist. Lol.
Thanks, reminded me to take my vitamins! When you stripped that window, I thought the same thing, you did a better job than the professionals. That's nice they are making that other window operational, the cross breeze will be great! Can't wait to see the new kitchen completed. Of course the new baby will be beautiful too!
Interior designer here!! I love a good marble or dolomite and there are a few products/treatments out there you can put on your stone to make it just as durable as a man made slab! One is called Tuffskin and it’s a thin clear sheet you put on the stone (they have honed or polished) you don’t even notice when it’s on. Your slab will stand the test of time!!
To just Julia Collins, thank you so much for this tip for unhooked Marble, could you give more info on where to purchase this product your friend Gerri thank you for sharing this
I really hope MaCenna reads this comment! But I have my doubts she reads hardly any comments. To busy I suppose.
If you have to use a second slab, use the spare to put a stone counter top INSIDE your pantry. We did that and It looks SO high end.
That's a fabulous idea!
So much to look at! Love the one you picked! Romeo is going to have one fine kitchen to cook in!!! Blessing to all!!
I’m sooo excited to watch you today , Thank you ❤
That slab is gorgeous!! Can't wait for the finished project!!
okay
1) I'm predicting baby is coming on June 1st - just sayin' *excited!!*
2) LOVE the slab
3) I think your lead contractor was right about the quality of your work!
Use the extra stone for a bottom sill / ledge for the window at the sink!
Another great idea!
Stunning slab 😮 the patterns and little bits of blue are amazing.
I love watching your videos. I can't wait to hear you get excited when you hear your babies first words. It is the best feeling in the world. You are going to be the best mom. We love you, and you make pregnancy look easy even though we know it is rough. You will be able to breathe soon hang in there, momma. ❤
Have you researched countertop sealing products? I don’t know if this was recorded recently, so perhaps you already have your countertops installed by now. But in case you still have time to think about this… just FYI most countertop sealers are very toxic, especially concerning with a baby on the way or if you are chemically sensitive. Specifically, they contain PFAS, forever chemicals are shown to be carcinogenic. It is essentially a thin plastic film that helps seal porous stone and it is not something I want in my home, especially in the kitchen where food is in contact. There are some products which are less toxic and PFAS-free, silicone based, but they do need to be reapplied more frequently. Just one of the considerations choosing natural stone!
I cannot wait to see the progression of this kitchen reno ! I’m so excited for you guys!
Always love a new MaCenna video!
So happy for you, you are glowing. God bless, Susan
You have such good taste and match things so well, that if that slab took your breath away, you know it will be amazingly perfect!
Girl, that dolomite slab is to kill for. From all of them that I've seen you walk by in the video this is the only one that I liked. I would love it in my home so pretty.
Gosh, only a couple to 5 weeks left to go! I can't wait to see dad's mini him. With Romeo & your good looks he's bound to be a heartbreaker!
The slabs are beautiful and I love the one you liked. It’s so exciting watching the choices you are making for the new kitchen. 😘
It has been a long time since you posted a video, I worry that something is wrong. I am praying for you and the baby. I hope you are OK,
i'm worry too .... I hope just that the baby takes all their time but everything is ok for MaCenna and the baby 🙄🤞
I can’t wait until the kitchen renovation is done. Also the baby bump is really out there. Not long now before the little one is here. I know his arrival is something you guys are looking forward to.
🎶 It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas 🎶. How exciting, 35 weeks pregnant, slab shopping and you look beautiful.
Our kitchen is going to be a chef's kiss😘🥰❣️
The ones at 6:05 and 8:05 are EVERYTHING. I’m quite a few years off from buying (let alone renovating) a house, but the inspo 😱
WHERE ARE YOU,HAS THE BABY BEEN BORN, I AM SO EXITED! ❤
I’ve been thinking the same all week!!
Loved the worktop that you have chosen it is gorgeous ❤❤
I don't usually comment, but I watch all the videos from before the pandemic hahaha and the video where you share your pregnancy made me cry, and now I see you at 35 weeks, OMG! I don't know why I'm so happy and excited hahaha I wish you all happiness in the love of this word.
PS: I love that slab
I love the second one it’s beautiful
Oh, that stone you love is soooo gorgeous!!!! When you know, you know!!!
How fun picking out stone with you and Romeo.
Wow! I thought Dolemite was a character played by Rudy Ray Moore in ‘70s Blackploitation Films. You learn something new everyday even us older folks. 😂
My happy place…wandering along the stone slabs! We ended up with 3 slabs of Taj Majal quartzite…we love it!
Hey MaCenna! Love your videos, have been binging them latety, and my boyfriend was asking what they were about. I tried my best to explain how talented and inspiring you are. Would you ever consider doing a supercut of your work on the cottage? One video with all the progress? It would be a great introduction to new viewers ✨☀️
She has a playlist on her main channel called "Renovating our 110 year old cottage".
Love ur vlogs mcenna can hardly wait for the next one x😊
You NEED that slab! It’s gorgeous!! ❤
I was thinking. Maybe you should build a safe enclosure for Kinsley outside for after the baby is born. My cats have a catio attached to my livingroom window that they can go outside into and be outside but safe! Kinsley is so little she’s almost like a cat. That way if you’re busy with the baby she can go outside and be safe!
The slab you guys are planning on is stunning! Ughh its getting so intense.. I'm ready to see the kitchen all finished and get this baby boy here already😁... no i don't mean i want him born early I'm just excited and ready for the time to get here!
LOVE the stone.
That slab is gorggggg 😍😍😍
I bought an extra slab to use as my backsplash and I have no regrets. Your stone is breathtaking and I’d do the same if I were you!
Dear Macenna, I got the biggest kick out of seeing you in the garage checking out the new hood, in your slippers. And the slab you and Romeo selected is "drop-the-mike" gorgeous. Hugs💞
Love this and how style changes. Ten years ago we got countertops with movement. The cut it assuming we want the simpler parts. Fortunately they had another slab and our vision was in the notes.
If you have to buy 2 slabs, continuing the stone up the wall like a backsplash will make your kitchen feel more cohesive & upscale!
MaCenna, the benchtop that you and Romeo have selected is beautiful. 😊
Gorgeous choice MaCenna and Romeo!!
MaCenna, maybe they watched your video about how you did the windows and that's why you're seeing them do it the exact same way you did it! Hahahaha!
hahahha maybe ill take that credit lol
When we did our kitchen I found picking the stone to be the most difficult thing to decide on!
Also you look so so beautiful ❤❤❤❤
OMG! The bumo is getting soo big, you look so cute.. def will miss it, but can’t wait to see the baby boy 🩷
This made me so happy!! I just went shopping for my granite for my bathroom remodel🤍
Wow,the world awaits your beautiful kitchen and baby of course.😄🌞🎉
That stone is beautiful!❤
I think it’s a good thing if you need two slabs. Yes it’s way more expensive, but it’s so beautiful and unique, you will definitely find use for the extra pieces.
I had the same reaction you did when I saw my slab of granite! 😊❤
MaCenna that dolomite slab is brautiful !!
I finally, after watching you for years figured out who you look like, or rather remind me of...The Olsen sisters, you could be one of them! Ha! You just look a lot healthier than they do, but ya. Anyway, your bump is looking good, I hope he waits a bit longer but you could have a baby any day now, they never go by our schedule! Lol.
I think she's far more attractive! MaCenna is a beautiful girl and the Olsen twins...just look weird. I don't see it. 🤷🏼♀️
choose! choose! choose! the see thru slab and install the lightings underneath. will look so cool (especially at night) 😁
Well, I love the slab that you and Romeo both love. I would probably like you like to see the slabs behind. It is gorgeous.❤❤❤❤
