  • Rowan trees are a part of Celtic Lore and were held in high esteem by the ancient peoples of Ireland. The Rowan was one of the most sacred trees to the Celtic Druids and it was forbidden to use any part of it except in very special religious ceremonies. The Vikings made their Runes from the wood of the Rowan tree. Runes were worn as amulets for protection from sorcery and dark forces...Books from Bealtaine Cottage Publishing… bealtainecotta...

Nature is incredible 🥰...here in California, our redwoods burned down in several lightening strikes all over the state. In one of my favorite areas, Big Basin, the only remaining trees that didn’t perish, miraculously, are called the grandmother tree and the grandfather tree! And now there are seedlings everywhere so Mother Earth is working to bring back the beauty. I read this a month ago in a local coastal newsletter. It makes my heart sing 💗💓💗 Thank you for sharing your Rowan trees’ gift Colette 🌛🌝🌜

I am originally from California and miss the giant Sequoias there so so much. My parents met there and I feel they are my great great grandparents. During the fires I raised money to protect the redwoods. We do have a few redwoods here in hawaii but they look a bit different. Thank you for sharing about the grandmother and grandfather tree......🧡🌲🌳💚💛

i collected berries last year and have pots full of tiny seedlings now, hopefully they will help to bring some life back to the monoculture desert here on the Moray firth.......beautiful coastline, denuded by acres of animal husbandry, barley, and inedible potatoes !! i have atiny garden outside our cottage, but its full to overflowing......and im spending a lot of my time seed bombing wildflower seeds around the village. Its great in the summer to hear people say " where have all these poppies come from???" keep up the good work!

Rowan's re my favourite trees. Here in Wales, many people call them the devil's tree and won't use the berries. My Scots aunt called them Judas' trees but where I grew up we ate rowan jelly with cheese often and the rowan was sacred, along with oak, ash, holly and thorn. The rowan was the protection tree of children. They were never cut down as it was seen as being an act capable of causing a family to die out.
We bought this house because oak, ash, holly and both black and hawthorn stood beside it. The rowan has been added, a tiny one was asked respectfully for permission before being brought from a local hedgerow to join them. It is here to grow with our grandson, to protect him now and to call him home from time to time when he is old enough to leave. I regret not being able to bring these traditions into my children's lives for fear of upsetting their father, but will not let another generation grow without them. To know how to care for and be cared for by trees is his right and our ancestors have a right for their beliefs to be upheld.

How beautiful. I'm headed out into my yard now. Yesterday I planted a volunteer vine maple that came up in a pot that had ferns and blue bells in it . My intention is for it to take over a spot where my white bark birch tree is very slowly dying from bronze birch borer. Since it was happy nestled between the ferns I left them all together. More gravel to spread and reseating some flagestones. Dividing hostas and other wonderful things will happen today. Blessings to you from Beaverton Oregon.

Beautiful. Back in autumn I planted a dozen acorns in a seed tray, I now have seven little sprouts that are just about ready to be transferred to little pots, I don’t have room in my garden to grow them directly but I’m going to look after them until they are hopefully one day big enough to be planted into earth whereupon I will give them away to whomever has space. Any advice regarding baby oak trees from anyone who reads this will be most welcome, I’ve never grown them before. Blessings to all x

I know it's lovely to do that and give them away ... My mum kept one of hers in a Pot and it was kind of like a bonsai tree but a bigger about 3ft tall the pot was quite large... It was happyi in there,,, she would feed it and we had it for many years only to put it in the ground when. Mum went in a nursing home,,, it did grow a bit but not too much in their garden so what I'm trying to say is they are very. Hardy trees that's why they are called the mighty OAK...

@@henriettahenson yes, I’m hoping to keep one for myself - of course it will have to be moved into a bigger pot every so often, I already have a chestnut tree that my son planted after it sprouted when he’d collected conkers one year - its about 15 years old now and it appears happy and healthy so far. It’s wonderful that your mums oak was kept, I hope the garden is where you can visit and give a hug or a little stroke of a branch in her memory x

Also, those last trees you showed us don't look like any Rowans I've seen pictures of. They are so tall and slender. Are there different types? I'm from the U.S. so have never even seen one, however, I legally changed my middle name to "Rowan" 15 years ago in honor of the tree :)
