  • Two figures who have changed the cultural and artistic landscape of the west, also happened to be great friends that inspired each other. One of them you most likely might have heard of. The other is virtually unknown these days. For a period of time, William Burroughs and Brion Gysin shared what they called "The Third Mind," a collaborative process which saw both figures egging each other on to greater heights of inspiration and creativity. But what helped them during this process? Magic of course. For the first time ever in the Fools Gallery, we look at two artists in the same episode, and are joined by musician, author and Podcaster Vic Hyland!

The story about the Jinn and the restaurant is entirely believable. Such packages are very commonly found in buildings in Indonesia (know as raja). They are usually driven by jealousy of the perpetrator to take something from the buildings occupants. Also also are used to fight black magic in buildings.
Even poisonous cheesecake is highly believable, it is also very common to put additional ingredients in food to possess those eating it.
They would also normally contain a magic square with numbers and maybe some Arabic writing. Do they work? Well certainly if you believe they do then work.
I think The Master Musicians of Joujouka are the name of a band of Jbala (the name for an ethnic group in Morocco) Sufi trance musicians. Again Sufi trance music is very common across the Islamic world. In Indonesia it is often (but not exclusively played) during parties for the Prophet's birthday. Although I have come across it being used for more malicious purposes.

Really enjoyed this episode - cut-up was my gateway drug into retrocausality and chaos magic. Douglas, have you read The Adding Machine: Collected Essays? I suspect you might like it better than his fiction. An odd detail is that the boys school he attended was later converted into the Los Alamos Laboratory aka Project Y.

at 51:10 ... i know that Burroughs had got some of his "Time-Binding" ideas from a workshop that he attended in Chicago as a young man...in his 20s... based on the cybernetic/ General Semantics work of Alfred Korzybski 🎉

well, actually, Korzybski didnt do cybernetics, but had influence on cyberculture:::: anyway, his influence was huge on the cut-ups as the power between languange and control

And that has been known by the Jaines that addiction is transfered to the next Avatar. What spiritualist would call a Spirit of Addiction. He is now a 6 year old with an addictive spirit, and is pure Magick ~

Yes, he is still an asshole. But as before, I will defend him. I did some research to explain this encounter, you mention Third Mind, and I came across an article explaining such a phenomenon as being Shared Delusional Disorder. And the reason I can defend Robert (Aleister) is because he is Dissociative Identity Disorder. I do plan on writing you a letter. I have identified the formula to my own Incarnation ~ The Serpent

Kurt Cobain was an admirer of Burroughs and he spent a brief visit with Burroughs. But they did not ever collaborate musically.
Burroughs and Wellcome is the better known corporate entity from which Burroughs traces his being a "trust fund muppet" from.

My bad, I was not aware of this. Only of their brief meeting in Lawrence, Kansas.
      Sorry, man.
