Thanks Alec and Jamie, so lovely to finally meet you both and work together on this! It was very humbling to see first hand how much passion, energy and dedication you put into your work and I learned so much!
I love this, so often you see projects being done online and they use £20,000 worth of tools and it just seems unatainable, he was using a lot of stuff normal people have, like making that tiny lathe out of a drill
My first (and to-date only) forging project was a 10" claymore letter opener. It was a lot of fun and really a great way to make the craft more accessible to people with limited resources or space.
This is awesome, I actually bought some of ThePocketForge's earliest pieces when he first started doing this. He made me a custom pair of tiny Witcher swords, which I still have and enjoy very much. Edit: Btw, it's called a scent stopper pommel because it's shaped like the top lid of some styles of old perfume bottles. When you put the top back on the bottle the scent stops emanating from it, hence scent stopper.
I am so happy that people are starting to do stuff like this. I've been going around for years and making little chef's knives with accompanying aprons for garden gnomes.
8:07 working in aircraft ive had to hand fashion alot of my own little doodads and whatnots, and every time i do it with one chuck drill in a vice and a dotco for sculpting
the thread wrapping of the handle reminds me of the creation of fly-fishing lures and all their custom equipment they use for winding thread around small objects. Great work!
no i imagine someone smithing tiny swords for their spacemarines and at every single game he cuts himself on them by accident only to sigh and say "khorne truly does not care from whence to blood flows..."
This was absolutely amazing to watch, i would definitely watch more of this type again and I plan to show this to my friend that wants to make sharp, pointy things.
Wow Alex. I am not a big commenter but this is one of your most brilliant videos and you do have many of those. It gives hope to the small scale operators. And that was a niffty patterned blade.🎉 keep up the content Dude.
I started making rings to sell at our local street fairs like two years ago, and I still use an electric drill and a dremel for all my work. I only do like 100 rings for each fair, one in the summer and one in autumn, takes about two days to make one, it works a treat
I had to pause and walk next door and show my grandpa the little mill. He is a hobby metal worker. He said "That aint f*cking real" we watched it working "How much one of them cost"😂😂
Thus would be an awesome introduction to sword smithing to new smith's. Also lucrative. You can easily sell these verses large ones. As for the drill lathe. I've done that myself to make a replacement firing pin for an antique revolver.
Making mini swords is really fun. I made an viking era swordt a few years ago from an old small file, so I could harden and temper it, a large nail for crossguard and a 2 piece 3 lobd pommel.. Totally not as nice as this one but really fun to make.
8:31 Alec, you sound as if you'd never used a drill clamped into the vise as an improvised lathe! I've been doing that for ages. One of my drills had a speed adjustment knob built into the "trigger" so I could regulate RPM with it, my replacement drill when the first one died had speed regulation by the depth of depression of the trigger, so I used a string and a stick and how much I twisted the stick controlled how much the string tightened, thus squeezing the trigger slightly more or less. I also never needed to do anything even remotely precise with it so I could get away with not buying a lathe and overindulging in shameless tinkery instead.
Impressive result! Apparently it's called a scent-stopper pommel because some scholars (probably from the XIXth century) thought it looked like the plug of bottle of perfume
i love the painted nails, im a bigish man and i love nail polish but im so anxious to wear it in public, its great to see a masculine guy wearing nail polish. Thank you the pocket forge
Do what makes you feel happy. It's your body. You wear what you want, whatever makes you feel good. 👍 If that's makeup or nail polish or whatever else, nobody has any right to say you can't.
As said by @kme, do what you wish. I wear nail polish sometimes and I work on the water network and fix Land Rovers for a hobby!! Unfortunately you will get the Neanderthal muppets spouting some masculinity BS. They are usually also the sort that think a woman’s place is in the kitchen.
those small drills look exactly like the ones i used when i used to be an optician! frameless glasses can be made with those as well as fixing snapped screws
The reason it's called a "scent stopper" pommel, is because it's in the shape of the crystal "cork" (not sure how else to call it, english isn't my first language) that was used on parfume bottles
The glass/crystal piece is called the "stopper" for the "scent" bottle. Hence "scent stopper", and reusing the term for a sword part which looks very similar.
I make action figures re weapons, been doing it for years, Leo's swords (done in metal and Pewter) Mikey's Nunchucks (so hard to run the chain so it hangs well) ....Ive done butcher knives and even Raf's Shi( had to mold that one, did it as a sand cast) 3 cm high with handle
This type of thing was my dream as a child, I found something similar as a kid on an old art piece it was covered with mini long swords and halberds and after taking it apart I found all the weapons where real but just miniature.. they where even sharp.... The sword made was exactly like the type of thing I dreamed of as a upgrade to those~

You can copy and paste this for the special character 😁
That's the coolest little thing, I'm gonna buy one as a letter opener.
Can we make a normal size version of this plz.
In America schlong is a Nickname for a penis 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
i laughed when he said full tang with a "TINY PEEN" at the end.
Petition to make this sword and pattern in real scale and have them side by side
Edit: But it has to be made in The Pocket Forge's workshop
Yes please!!
Imagining Alec having to make a full size guard using his tiny mill....
Petition signed
I second that.
I third that.
Thanks Alec and Jamie, so lovely to finally meet you both and work together on this! It was very humbling to see first hand how much passion, energy and dedication you put into your work and I learned so much!

Now you need to go to his workshop and use his small tools to make a full size sword
And he have to bring his bridgeport and his lathe as well.
That is a bloody good letter opener you guys made there.
Literally my first thought lol
"it's amazing how much you can abuse tools if you don't have anyone to tell you not too"
Best quote and one of my new mottos!

That you were able to say "Schlong" sword with a semi straight face in itself was amazing. 😂😂😂
I think it spelled Shlong in this case. Not a penis sword.
My first (and to-date only) forging project was a 10" claymore letter opener. It was a lot of fun and really a great way to make the craft more accessible to people with limited resources or space.
Now make a full size sword out of a bigger nut , bigger bolt and bigger popsicle stick ....I know if anyone could
I don't know what I expected out of this... but it far surpassed it! Absolutely amazing 🔥🔥

Great work Lads, I love the damascus pattern.

That guy has got some talent. Hopefully you help him build a full size now.
Ben's toolbox is like that one old guy from Toy Story 2. So cool.
Dudes manicurist was probably wincing at those close up shots. He needs a touch up soon.
If I add miniature smithing to my existing hobbies of miniature painting and scale model making, I'll have a tiny trifecta!
Tell your family and friends you just have a few little hobbies or what?

im not gunna lie, WATCHING the etch happen is really cool. usually you just dip it n leave it in a tube so theres nothing to see lol

It has been my understanding that particular shape of pommel is called a scent stopper because it resembles the stoppers on "scent" (perfume) bottles.
it also stops one from smelling anything when hit upon the nose with it. lol
Please do a 24hr tiny sword sale thing with the both of you I would buy one
learning Blacksmithing from watching these videos around the same time im trying to quit smoking, i cant believe how perfect your sponsor was!!!

I used to make those back in the 80s, great fun in a home shop. Perfect gifts for nearly anyone. Mostly I used cut nails for stock.
Proxxon tools are awesome for miniature work!!! Started woodturning on a mini-lathe and its perfect to make rings!!!
Such an amazing collab! Two of my favorite artisans!
So happy to see 2 of my favourite Makers together making!! Year made!!
that's just marvelous
I also have a shlong sword. I didn't make it myself, but I did grow it in to full size. It too can be dangerous if not used with care!

Wow the pattern looks sick on it. Because it's a mini blade the pattern looks massive and would take a ton of time to get such a big pattern.
