How to Create Multi-Category Chart in Excel

Multi-category chart or multi-level category chart is a chart type that has both main category and subcategory labels. This type of chart is useful when you have figures for items that belong to different categories.
In this tutorial, you'll see how to create a multi-category chart in Excel.
Note: This tutorial uses Excel 2013. In other Excel versions, there may be some slight differences in the described steps.

I needed to accomplish this for a pivot chart in a way that no manual formatting was required at any point (start, data/categories changes, refreshes, pivoting the chart, etc.). What I did was that in the data source of the pivot chart I duplicated the category column, then in the "Legend (Series)" section, which are the columns of a pivot table, I put the duplicated field while keeping the original one in the "Axis (Categories)" section, which is the rows of a pivot table, some error labels may appear if you are using calculated fields in your pivot table, if that is the case (which was mine), you can get rid of those in the pivot table options by defining the setting of how to show errors as nothing, that made the trick while keeping the pivot chart structure like the one shown in this video, which is very good for easy reading, I hope this helps someone looking for how to do this with a pivot chart without having to manually format anything because I searched for several hours and didn't find how to do it the way I needed, but this video was shown in the results of my searches, so I'll leave the information here.

You may be able to do that under the chart formatting menu for the data series, but not sure. Otherwise, sort your source data and the chart will follow.
