Rule 42 has been altered by the 470 class rules since 2003, pumping has been legal for a long while. Windsurfers have been pumping for years before that, its always been sailing.
@@samuelwalker2191 It makes sense in windsurf but dinghies are different, pumping upwind is dumb, it looks bad, it breaks boats and it makes roll tacks pointless. It objectively makes sailing worse.
Oh I hate all that pumping and oching. That wouldn't be allowed in the sailing I do. The Olympics is a different world. I'm not so keen on watching this.

There is value to some pumping downwind, but I'd like to see real numbers in favor of all the pumping upwind
for real it looks terrible, it breaks the boats, and it just makes everything less interesting. Who cares about roll tacks when you can pump anyway?
