Michael Jackson wrote, produce and did background vocals on the track, it was originally supposed to be his song on the "Thriller" album, the song is about sex, it should be obvious, it's metaphorical, you should know what 'centipede' means as a male, Martha Wash with her wonderful big voice did the ad libs toward the end of the song.

Have you noticed Martha Wash wasn't in this video either! I guess Black Box and C&C Music Factory weren't the only ones using someone else to lip synch to her vocals!
That's a good observation, but for the record I witnessed Rebbie perform this song live at a private show in the Caribbean in the late 80's and she killed it
With no backup vocals. No one is Martha Walsh who I think was brought in to juice up the chorus on the record, but Rebbie has the pipes not to need any help for a lipsink. She proved it to me for sure.

In the family, Rebbie is considered the best singer after Mike. I'd probably put her 3rd after Mike and Randy and followed closely by Jermaine. But she is, purely in terms of power and range, the best of the three girls
But she actually never really wanted to be an artist and she was always sort of a reluctant star. I believe she only did this because Mike was gonna help.
