Dave is really a smart, educated guy. You can tell by the way he talks and describes things that it's why he's good at the things he does.
Totally agree!!
He's got nice boobies
I was ready to disagree with whatever he said and roll my eyes because I've found him to be annoying in the distant past but I must say, I'm impressed.
Yeah mustaine is the man 🤘
Why don't you marry him?
Davids voice is so soothing and relaxing that I'd let him read me the dictionary and then the phone book
😂 😂😂
Couldn't agree more!
Alex that is so funny. But you are correct. David does have a soothing voice.
Yeah, and then when he sings it's so powerful
Poor David!
Streaming is the future. Best way for bands to make a living is doing live shows and selling merch. Support your local music scene and build an audience. Use social media as a way to get your name out there Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, RUclips, Reverbnation, ect. Don't invest too much on a full-length record unless you know it can pay off. Release singles from to time to time. Try to sign with a label that you know will support your genre. Sign a short term deal and learn the business and when you have budget go DIY. Only make music that you like and reflects you. Don't sign away all your masters and royalties! The landscape has changed but you have more power of owning your music more now than ever before.
@GuitarDudeTv that same question is on my mind as well.
@GuitarDudeTv Are you asking about finding fellow musicians or people who work in other parts of the music industry? I met my fellow band members at concerts and clubs. Also, I've met many people who work in various parts of the industry in this way. Simply being friendly and starting a conversation has been beneficial to me.
At this point for rock and metal, don't even sign with a record label. They prioritise hip hop and pop anyway. Just make singles and through money form live shows and merch, make an album and release it online. DIY is highly risky but if you get some attention and build on momentum the potential reward is huge. I mean, look at Chance the Rapper. He's hip hop but he's independent yet highly successful.
@@rockingbirdey "At this point for rock and metal, don't even sign with a record label. They prioritise hip hop and pop anyway"
Not really. Records label prioritise what brings in more money than what they put out. "somehow" over the last few years, rap has grown to become the main appeal of mainstream music even though the quality of rap songs has become hot garbage. Record labels don't understand the "why" of music, they just make money. If your rock band or metal band can have a sound that charts over these garbage ass rappers or pop artist, they'll gladly invest in you. If not, best believe they'd rather sign some Lil whatever than sign your band.
nameless there is the problem, when it becomes a business a lot of the time the creative process takes a back seat.
nice guy btw. not really big on disturbed but they have a huge fanbase.
I could listen to him speak all day. David needs to narrate an audio book.
If I see one “But what does Corey think” I’m feeding you to Dio’s demon
what is " but what does Corey Taylor think" supposed to mean?
But what does Corey Taylor think about feeding people to Dio’s demon?
Thrash Machine nothing because he knows if he even questions Murray, he’ll get obliterated and transported into the Magica realm.
@@Austin_QR i think the real question is what does Corey Taylor think about what Corey Taylor thinks about feeding people to Dio's demon
I still can't believe Draiman took his chin rings out. Wow, it'll take a while for me to adjust to that.
He looks better with the beard somehow
You're right. He does look nice with a beard.
@ragglefraggle You feel better? You got a little triggered there.
Pretty sure they were damaging his lower teeth.
@CortnySellers
I have the same piercings D had and depending on how they get placed and it's done the "right" way,
they don't touch your lower teeth 😊
Also something that helped bands in the early 2000s was that movies in that time used a lot of Nu metal music for example Disturbed in the One, Drowning Pool in XxX, Torque & Batman return of the joker used Static X, The punisher featured Saliva. That was the trend back them unfortunately its not anymore but that was a major bump in rock music back then.
All I heard was OOO-AHAH
Lol
You're missing two "AH's"
m.ruclips.net/video/66gSvNeqevg/видео.html I'm just going to leave this here.....
Josh Lanier what did I just watch?
Josh Lanier yum, muh, nugh... Was the gift that has been given to me!
Streaming does work. I've been saying this forever. Pretty sure he was who I heard first say that. More bands need to be fully invested in it. I'll never get rid of Spotify. That's the greatest thing that's come along in quite some time. Put your music on every available streaming site. Put out vinyl.
Not a huge Disturbed fan, but he has always seemed a paused, articulated, educated, reasonable person. Kind of person you'd want to hear advice about on a lot of things.

There's not really that much competition, since most bands these days are pretty average, generic and sound very similar to each other, especially metal bands - the key is to not be a copycat formula band and to have your own unique distinct sound. You don't have to reinvent the wheel (or the steel, to quote Pantera), but you need to bring something new to the table if you want to really stand apart from the deluge of bands and get noticed.
George Ricketts
I didn't mean that a band has to pioneer their own sub-genre in order to stand apart from the crowd - I just meant that they should try not to be generic copycat versions of band who were unique and original, or just try not to be generic in general. Most metal bands I hear these days all sound the same - they have a wannabe-Phil Anselmo type singer (but even more growly and guttural verging on death metal, a la Randy Blythe), recycled drop-tuned riffs (often played on a 7 string guitar), mindless shred solos with no soul or real sense of melody, rapid-fire double bass drumming with no sense of groove, and no memorable songs or diversity in their songwriting.
It's ok to sound similar to your influences, as long as you bring something of your own to the table and don't sound exactly like another established band. Guns 'N' Roses were a good example of this - they sounded reminiscent of Aerosmith, AC/DC, Van Halen, Sweet, Humble Pie, and the other 70's hard rock bands who they were clearly influenced by, but they added their own flavor and style as well as a punk edge and raw aggression that made them appeal to thrash metal kids such as myself who hated Motley Crue, Ratt, Poison, Warrant and other such glam/pop metal bands that were so popular in that era.
But over the last 15 or so years, hard rock/metal bands all fall into 3 soundalike categories: They're either Pantera/Lamb of God copycat generic extreme metal, formula watered-down grunge lite/corporate rock like Shinedown, or (worst of all) lame bro-metal like FFDP. And all of that shit sucks hard.
That's why why find those bands that aren't most bands. They dont come to you like they use to, since you know rock isn't as popular anymore.
So the key is to NOT be like Disturbed...lol
Smart kat. Eloquent, articulate, business savvy, insightful. He’s a good guy.
He looks like Charlie Runkle from Californication so much. But.
Love this guy.
So intelligent and articulate.
I didn't know Andre agassi was in disturbed
Lol
That might be the funniest comment I've ever read on RUclips. You won the internet today.
@@TheSnatchbuckler thanks
That’s a good one......nice
Agassi? I thought Dana White was singer for Disturbed!
Bruh he is like an ASMR guy
Tbear III oh my fucking god I just said something about that lol 😂

newfound respect for this guy wow! class act
This was the most anxious interview I have ever seen! 😮
So when is he gonna say that he is phil collins long lost son?
Youre no son, you're no son of mine.
Damm I never noticed the resemblance until now
@@tstricklin853Nem jutott át az üzenetem.
Here's your advice, start your band 20 years ago. It's too late now.
the 80s were the best time
Bullshit. Social media for exposure is a godsend. And you can literally record a professional sounding album in your bedroom. No one buys albums though anymore, I agree, but then just tour a shit load and charge extra for your merch.
@@avsky837 or u could upload it to RUclips i guess
Hahaah
Ouch, that hurt! 😂 But to achieve a level like these guys, it does kinda feel that way. Age 33 in the UK, still holding on to the dying dream of becoming like my idols. Maybe if I had all the skill and knowledge I have now twenty years ago there'd be some hope! 🤣
I have already experienced how difficult it is, but I still know that it ain't impossible.
Keep on going, dude 🤘
@@bladebitten2766 I will, thank you!
His 2 cents on streaming and piracy is spot on... people criticizing streaming services are stuck in the past and don't want to admit or adapt to the new model of making money in the digital era.
oh david, david , david. such a good dude. i really wanted to chill with him, dive with some sharks, talk about music all day. maybe in another life tho. keep rocking out dude
_-Step 1: don't write the same song for eighteen years-_
@FLLN 97 Yes. Yes I do ^^
@FLLN 97 That one is one of my favorites off of ten thousand fists. Also their cover of Land of Confussion was awesome too.
🙂
Great in depth conversation and interview on the modern music industry!
Great Work on the New Album! 🎶🤘🏼💿🎶
David, I am a fan since your beginning. I know you speak the truth. That is why I ask you for your advice. I am old. I have no friends. The only family I have remaining is my order brother. I found out today that he has no interest in continuing our brother and sister relation. All of my siblings are deceased, including parents and extended family. He has traded our sibling love for a coke whore. I am sad and very depressed over losing my only living relative. I'm having an extremely difficult time trying to continue my life as it is now. Can you please advise me as to how to handle this. Signed a loyal fan forever.
That’s the shit were tryna do. Glad for some reassurance
What a talented human being. Incredibly smart too.
He has a soothing voice
Love you David! 💙
🤘Nice shirt ♠️
David's speaking voice is nearly identical to Kevin Smith. Thats awesome.
The voice!!!
David Draiman is my hero 😀😀😀😀
Lot of disturbed haters nowadays, but there are very, very few rock bands that have had more success over the past 2 decades
Charlie Runkle
OMG....NO LIE!!!
Awesome guy
0.00000000001 cent per stream. yeah there's the problem. 1st you end up on the pile and next thing is you don't get heard because of that and the last but not least is that you make a loss while doing that. roughly put, musicians need to become owners of they're own music and not rely on some in between label,in between person or other scam service. the music industry needs to be destroyed and we have to work for it to get it's ass whipped. music is not just a percentage out of zero's, that doesn't pay bills. do we need to get rich??,not persay, does it need to be more fair???,hell yes.
arjan snijder Did you not watch the video? David literally said that bands are simply not reading contracts. They’re not paying attention to what they’re gonna get paid per stream. They just hop onto a major label and hope for the best.
@@hobs1303 that's one. one streams the music and the next neighbour steals the music from the streamer. having a piracy circel going on somehow destroys income in ways. to get noticed and to hardball with a label then you first have to make an album, even working band have ripp out a kidney for a decent production or invest in own gear for that to sound somewhat label worthy. next thing is the label paying somewhat intrest yet tell you to work around 50/50 because music isn't feasable anymore, take that 50/50 story to your boss so that he can tell you to f...ck off and search for another company to do so. the industry is shit and it takes ones with piles of money to proof us otherwise.
arjan snijder two issues;
1). As Hobby has pointed out, most bands have an issue of not reading their contract and negotiating how much they’re gunna make of streaming.
2). Legislation is in the process of being changed right now to prevent labels from doing exactly that, saying they HAVE to give the band members X amount of money for each stream
@@tyler_bt3326 i get that. but not only bands have problems reading. one streams while the second takes a copy of that streamed music, theres our problem and we have to kill that like fire. labels aren't as royal as in the 70ts and music has been f... since the kopieng of music. so the deal is pretty simple, prevent the kopieng of music. we have to find ways for that and if a few underground bands have the balls to do/try so. i've tought this throught and still am. every opening is one. these days the chances are all realised by band who already are financially wealthy not the poor ones. the industry is oversaturated due to allot bands just not getting the attention they seek. all bands seek is a little fair share within the financial circell wich is more then fair. i'm in music for change not for my own succes. change is needed because the industry is f.... and cd's will die off if music continues this way, i'm not in for that. and to say, it is what it is and doesn't need change= no change on the bank for musician, more so loss.
I love this guy and his voice..I think this is what I actually want to say 😚😚😚
Good to see Mr. Wonderful from shark tank giving some advice for aspiring musicians
Ask Steven Wilson about Spotify etc. He was against it but realized how much potential sharing media have. Now every Steven Wilson song is on Spotify.
He is the Fraser crane/Kelsey grammar of heavy metal and nu metal
Sup David. Love you dude.
Yeah making a RUclips channel for ur band and have that ur money income could work , not the only source but it def could help it's not a hinderence. Art should always be free but it should not come at the cost of having a broke artist , artists should have money and room to make art. Art is very important to humanity and it's also a communication thru the ages.
I wanna see his Spotify accounting. He can be happy, if he gets 1000$ in one year.
He’s so bad ass
How can David be so calm here. Streaming exposure is not paid! Nobody buys music. That's why the music industry has lost sooo much revenue. Exposure doesn't matter in the age of zero attention span and no actual sales in music. Bands can't make a living in music because of the model that its in. CDs could have been kept.. But no let's fix a system that was never broken. That's why warped tour, rock on the range, and other festivals are dying. And how the fuck can you tour with no revenue coming in??? The internet has killed the music industry
AyEeEe!! He's got a Motörhead t-shirt!!!!
If not for RUclips, I would never have "discovered" Disturbed. That's a take it to the bank fact. Crap, I'm over 70 years old, but not dead!
I didn't really understand the whole "15 points after you've recooped" thing he was talking about in relation to record contracts. Can somebody explain that to me?
David is cool as fuck. Very intelligent.
Wise words from papa Draiman 💜🤘
Dana white sings for Disturbed...mind blown!

I thought this was Dana White when I first looked at the thumbnail.

Awesome we are finally getting good legislation like the music modernization act
I just now realized how much he looks like Dana white
They should cover Rainbow in the dark
What is the outro song
I love disturbed and David Draiman, but I have to disagree on the whole piracy thing. The only thing that piracy killed is the ability for an artist to make an album with 2 or 3 good songs and the rest just be filler material. I remember buying albums because I thought they would be great due to the fact that I liked a couple of songs on them, but they turned out to suck. Nowadays I still buy albums but only if i like most of the songs on them. The music industry is better off because piracy has forced artists to put out better material simply by making it easier to find out if the albums are going to be good before people buy them.
Millenials will find it extremely hard to make it in music nowadays as David said dont go all into it unless you have a plan b.
Everytime I see this thumbnail I'm like what the fuck is Dana White doing on Loudwire
#Draiman2020
With out piracy nothing would tackle big companies, therefore *streaming* music would not exist.
Hellyeah!!!!
My opinion is that iTunes killed the music industry instead of having to pay 15 to $18 for an entire album you can pay $1 for the one song you want
What happened to the piercing
Today musicians must be much more smarter than back in day to ""make it"".
"All you needed it was just a good song playing on the Radio" -Geddy Lee.

The problem I have with streaming music is that it's rinse and repeat the same damn 40 songs like radio has done for decades. Do we have to fucking hear Enter Sandman a bajillion times when it has already been played a bajillion times? It's a cash cow I get it, but deeper cuts on albums are so unappreciated because they are NEVER played.
And sorry, but payola is still a disease in the music industry.
I almost didn't recognize him without his chin piercings
