I lost my baby girl at 19 weeks this Christmas. I wish we had a bereavement room and midwife caring for us. I'm now pregnant again at 17 weeks and I'm so scared of loosing her too. I burst out into tears when the midwife read the note from the parent who lost their child. The note put me right back into the experience of loosing her. I wish I had gotten one of those. It would have helped me not feel so alone in the situation. We've been trying for a baby for 3,5 years. Hopefully this one will come out screaming and wiggling

I'm now 27 weeks along and have developed pre-eclampsia. She has barely grown the last 2 weeks and is the size of a 24 week old fetus. My baby will probably have to be delivered by c-section around 28 weeks. I hope she is strong enough to make it out healthy, but the doctors are telling me to prepare for the worst since she is so small. I'm scared for her, but she is dancing in my belly as I type, so I'm still hopeful ❤️🤞

Aw my heart breaks for Helen, losing a baby is the hardest thing ever to go through, I’ve lost 7 little angels and just experiencing any type of uterine cramps/contractions bring back such horrible memories and fear, just being constipated which is normal in pregnancy and causes crampy feelings brings on such horrible anxiety, so I understand how scared she would of been feeling the poor darling.

Lost our youngest child, our 12 year old son to cancer a year ago. Now expecting twins. I understood Helen's fears of losing another child and for a moment I thought the twins mum was about to realise my fears for this pregnancy. I appreciate that our son was able to come home for palliative care for his last 3 weeks of life. And even then, the night he stopped breathing was a shock. Doesn't matter how much warning you have, it's still a shock.

    • @michellesartori6695

If you did, your country wouldn't have such an abysmal standing of maternal and fetal/neonatal morbidity and mortality in the developed world! I was never a Midwife, which was ironically the very reason I went into Nursing in the first place, but I was also a Childbirth Educator and I LOVED being in the Labour Ward when babies were delivered, but I believes that every woman should be able to birth their babies in whatever position they want to and unfortunately I was born with a dislocated hip and I knew that arthritis would be a problem in a few years and so I went into Palliative Care nursing instead, but I have always been interested in maternity issues, which leads me back to the US and it's incredibly high caesarian rates and while I'm aware that there are legitimate reasons for SOME C Sections, I am also aware that due to the litigious environment in the US many OBGYN's have incredibly high insurance rates and often they will take the option of doing an unnecessary C Section for convenience, which is major abdominal surgery and not without significant risk to mother and baby. If the high C Section rates were reducing the fetal and maternal stat's then that would be evidence of better outcomes but it's the opposite. However, they'd get less money if they had a system like the UK and we'll we can't have that!

They’re recording one of the best wards in the U.K. They’re not all like this. Nurses in the U.K. can be callous too, don’t be fooled. Our maternity wards are currently under scrutiny because of the increasing number of issues that they’re not addressing.

Midwifery, was my chosen path in health. Knowledge pushed me to have my last baby before my 30's & out he popped 3days after my 28th. I never made it back to the access course. Hated maths & that was all i had to do then apply for uni.
Im 46now, what a waste of an opportunity I had. The words spoken by the midwife that ended this episode brought tears to my eyes because I threw it all away. Im now 12yrs diagnosed with MS so fate sealed, chapter ended, pick another book from the shelf Nikki. My brain function is too effected by the relapses over the years, if I was dumb before, im WAY DUMBER NOW!
However, within my written guilty conscience & doom, I did deliver my grandson for my daughter in her sitting room. Aided by my 3yr old granddaughter who was OVER THE MOON with delight.
Ive written this to process my emotions, kind of a therapy session. Anyway, throughly enjoyed this ep. Love for all in tbis ep & their futures ♥️🤗💙🤗

I'm diabetic, I recognise the marks on Neelam's stomach. We don't heal well, and bruise easily. Our health is not great to begin with, I'd be worried about getting pregnant too. It would put a lot of strain on my body, the organs have to work much harder, anyway. Plus, the chances of infection are notably increased, abscesses are very quick to form.
It is one of those illnesses people judge you for, until they find out that you are a type one diabetic... Then they shut up, when you mention you have to receive injections. Not that it is their business, people still feel the need to lecture me constantly, however. I probably eat way healthier than they do!

Love the fact these mums are allowed to do what makes them most comfortable. I've never given birth and never plan too, but it would take an idiot to not realise just how much these women are going through. When you are in such extreme pain and in a situation you have little control over, being able to do your make-up or drink special herbal teas probably does so much to help the mothers get through this experience. Even when it's not something the nurses understand, they keep their minds open and don't judge mothers or their families. It was so beautiful to watch.

I remember I was like "Helen' with my 2nd delivery. It was SO fast that I just panicked. It wasn't until the midwives gave me a very firm talking to as my carry-on was putting my son's life at risk. I remember I just switched into action mode and pushed him out- forgot about the pain. I feel so much for Helen, it's so easy to be judgemental but induced deliveries are hard and fast.

Not all induced deliveries are. My cousin was induced. Stayed in labor for 12-24 hrs and ended up an emac-sec. Her baby was breeched. He’s 7 yrs old now.

If I only had them when it happened to me. I was 5 months pregnant when I lost mine and the one thing I didn’t like is that they kept me on the maternity ward. I could hear all the babies crying and I would cry when I heard them. I wanted to be anywhere else but there.

Why I watch these is utterly beyond me. Always reminds me of the one time I gave birth. Told to push, baby in distress, no epidural, no medication (allergic), and I tore. Screamed so loud Dad heard me clear at the other end of the hospital. Oh well, have a daughter, Shannon.
