- Welcome back to the shop! Here are a few tips for perfect fitting lab joints. This is a bit of a sneak peek at my next furniture project. I thought I’d spend a little time on fitting the lab joints as it will be the main structure of the next project and didn’t want to get too deep into the weeds during the project build. Hope this video was helpful and thanks for watching.

Such a nice bench. Fantastic work as usual.
Look forward to seeing how this turns out
I liked the video, Jon. And you made perfect lap joints, mission accomplished. I look at it this way, if I learned something that I didn’t know before watching the video, I am pleased and try to use that in my future builds.
@@thesplinteredfinger thanks Ted! I appreciate it
Terrific work on those lap joints Jon! That's going to be a beautiful piece! 👍👍
Thanks Steve!
Very nice, I'm looking forward to catching up on all of your videos.
Awesome, Thank you!
That is a really nice looking bench as it is this video. I know with all the little tweeks and curves you have in your play book, it will be a work of art.
And the trick you just showed about getting a tight fitting lap joint is a keeper in mind.
I'll be waiting for the full length video, and thank you
Thanks Timothy, glad to hear that 👍
Thank you for this. Your videos were some of the first videos on woodworking I watched - you sort of set the bar for me. Thanks again.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching! 👍
Jon that is some gorgeous Padauk.
Thanks Art! … that board’s been hanging around the shop for almost 30 years
That makes a nice fit. Very good advice. Thank you.
Thanks!
Great video can’t wait to see it finished. Thanks for sharing
Thanks Jim
Beautiful work, Jon! The bench is already looking fantastic! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks! You too 👍
Stay safe. Is there something you know that we don't?
@daniel_913 not really, just that there's too much violence out there nowadays. 😕
Jon Peters 👍 Craftsman Extraordinaire 🤝🙏😊
Thanks!
Can’t wait to see it shaped up!
Thanks Jon
Great tips, Jon.
Bill
Thanks Bill!
Great tips, thanks Jon!
Thanks Warren!
Just great fun to watch the magic happen. Jon, at the end you discussed your choices in finishing the bench. It would be helpful to hear what end goal is being met. Is it a commissioned work? Special place in one of the rooms? Gift for...? If you can share, it would help put context on the finishing touches you are planning. And always....gorgeous woods!
Thanks Jack
Boyee oh Boyee beyond excited to this awesome bench come together!! You still be at least 9 build behind Sucka LOL!!! Blessings Bud, Dirty Jersey out!!
Thanks Mike, it's going to be a good one!
Hoy aprendí algo nuevo, gracias, y que ansiedad ese sobrante de madera, se pueden hacer cajas hermosas, jaja saludos desde Méx
Gracias! Glad to help 👍
THANKS FOR THAT GREAT VIDEO.
Thanks!
Do plan on using any dye to keep the colors roughly the same as the pieces age? Padauk in particular turns brown over time. Just curious.
Great job sir thanks for the tip. In Sunday morning painting of Jimmy Hendrix at the end of the video you showed a coffee table how hard would it be to remake and have plans for it. It just spoke to me the curves just a beautiful piece and what inspired you to make that design again thanks for the great advice and content
Thank you! Building another coffee tables bin on the list for a while… Appreciate the comment might be the motivator to get it started👍
That's a beast of a bench using some gorgeous wood. 🔥
@@RobbieBolog thanks Robbie! It’s heavy!
how do you keep those big pieces of wood from cupping/warping? are they just too thick? or are they laminated?
The legs are two pieces joined together
Pardon my ignorance, but why not just make the joints deep enough for a flush fit, rather than ripping an inch or so off the brace??
I need to make bigger Cross Cut Sled? Wholly Moly!
It’s definitely a big one! I built it close to 10 years ago and still use it all the time👍
É um assassinato cortar
Atoa
Aquele pedaço da barra
Transversal, uma vez que
Bastava avançar um pouco
O encaixe, para ter um
Resultado muito melhor.
Meça cinco vezes e
Não corte uma.
Respeite a madeira na
Íntegra.
Quanto mais grossa a
Madeira, mais respeito
E admiração se
Tem pela peça.
I would have watched this video, had someone not hijacked the audio and changed it to Italian, impossible to change back to English.
I’m not sure how that works 🤷♂️🤦♂️
Click the gear icon in the bottom right, if you are watching on a computer, and select "Audio Track" and set it to English.
Jon, I am a pretty long time watcher of your videos but this one....is disappointing. The title says "How To Make Perfect Lap Joints". You really didn't do that. You showed us one tip. That was it. Sorry for the negative feedback.
@@befmx31 is this your first comment
The bench is beautifull and easy to do.. the video shows how to.. maybe the name of the video can be: how i made a beautifull bench with two perfect lap joints 😊
Are you out of your mind? Leaving the joint tight before sanding was an excellent tip, as was leaving the brace wider until it’s fit. Both tips led to making a perfect joint which he showed. Please keep the negativity to yourself
Always get inspiration from your videos. Greats tips! Keep em coming!
