[Camille Saint-saëns] (1835-1921)
Saint-saëns is a French pianist, organist and composer of the Romantic era.
Since his youth he has had a very good career as an organist and pianist. He was also Gabriel Fauré's piano teacher.
In 1871, he founded La Société nationale de musique (SNM).
Its objective was to promote French music and to allow young composers to have their works played in public. Among the founders of this association, there are César Franck, Édouard Lalo, Gabriel Fauré.
In 1888, he lost his mother, to whom he was very close. This disappearance affects him deeply. From then on, his life changed: he traveled extensively, in 27 countries. His tour of the United States was a great success at the age of 80.
