Welcome to Issues and Insiders for this Labor Day May First here in Korea.
    I'm Min Sunhee.
Today we address the labor environment for workers in the country.
For this I have Professor Song Soo-young at Chung-Ang University live on the line.
    Professor Song welcome.
I also have Kwon Soa with us.
Soa it's good to have you here.
    1) Soa, let's begin with the results of a survey that shows job seekers in Korea are more interested in working conditions than in wages.
    2) Professor Song, pundits say flexible working arrangements including remote work will create a more inclusive and accessible workforce for Korea.
    What do you say?
    3) Soa, last year, women in Korea earning hourly wages or salaries reached almost 10 million, a record high, but their working environment remains little changed, I hear?
    4) Professor Song, concern has been raised about Korea's youth unemployment in recent times.
What do the statistics tell us, and do they worry you?
    5) Soa, another topic of much interest among workers is the broader adoption of a four-day workweek.
What is the latest on that front?
    6) Professor Song, the potential adoption of a four-day workweek has triggered quite a bit of debate over its pros and cons.
What do you believe are the main issues of contention?
    7) Professor Song, what are your prospects regarding the full adoption of a four-day workweek here in Korea?
    8) Meanwhile, Soa, it's been over two years since the implementation of the Serious Accident Punishment Act to ensure the safety of workers.
What has been the impact of this act on workers thus far?
    9) Professor Song, what is your assessment of the Serious Accident Punishment Act?
    10) Soa, the number of foreign workers in Korea surpassed 900-thousand in 2023 for the first time since relevant data was compiled starting 2012.
What more can you tell us about them?
    11) Professor Song, what do you propose to allow for a greater participation of foreign workers in our workplaces?
    All right.

Interesting discussion thank you. Statics on woman in work and the rest follow what has happened in the UK and my memory. Health and Safety at work is a must for workers. Youth workers is there any insensitive for apprenticeships for smallers companies to tran employees? Give a wider scope on variety of jobs.
