    In this video I’m reviewing the squat wedges / slant boards by Double Circle Fitness.
    -
    Why Would You Need Squat Wedges?
    -
    People mainly use these slant boards for two reasons:
    (1) They lack ankle dorsiflexion that prevents them from getting squat depth
    (2) They want to target more of the quads when squatting
    -
    Squat Deeper
    -
    When you have a lack of ankle dorsiflexion your squats will suffer.
    If your shin bone can’t move forward, you won’t be able to get enough depth in your squats.
    By using a slant board, you create artificial ankle dorsiflexion and it allows your shins to move forward so you can squat deeper.
    -
    More Quads Activation
    -
    Because your knees go further forward using a squat wedge, you’ll activate more of the quads muscles.
    This is similar to a sissy squat where your knees go past your toes.
    -
    Individual Squat Wedges vs Fixed Width Slant Boards
    -
    Individual squat wedges allow you to change the width of your stance and also give you the option to externally rotate your hips.
    With a fixed slant board you’re stuck with the width of the board.
    If you try to externally rotate your hips with a fixed width board, you put more weight on the inside of your feet which causes your knee to go inward.

    This is the best overview of wedges I’ve ever seen. Straight, to the point and with enough detail. Love the examples too. Was deciding between individual wedges and one big wedge and your video cleared it all up for me. Thanks a lot!

      Thanks my man. In my opinion, individual wedges is the way to go cause you have more options.

    Hell of a good review. A lot of thought and effort. This is the first video I watch from you, I'm going to try and see them all. Double Circle is a great brand. I ordered my gymnastic rings from that company and absolutely love them.
    I have a wood single slant board, which is very good quality but your points here make me think now that individuals are better option. These DC wedges must be selling like crazy since they're currently out of stock.
    If I may add, take a look at the knees over toes guy channel. The Jefferson curls exercise is what prompted me to buy a slant board in the first place.
    Lastly, I love that you explained the mechanics of the human anatomy in the squat. If there is one issue I have with Kinobody is that he never explains were to position your joints to optimize the muscle targeting (which is some content you may see from B-Pak). He just says this is the most effective exercise go and do it. LOL.

      Glad you got some value out of the video. And yeah I think individual boards are better than a single one.

    I've been using these for several months and they're hands down the best option for wedges / slant boards. A couple of points:
    1. If you want a greater than 20 degree angle, they are easily sturdy enough to put varying thickness boards (1/2", 3/4", 1") under the back and they are still rock solid.
    2. The front bottom edge that touches the floor and the edges of the band cutouts are pretty sharp so it's a good idea to soften those edges with a layer or two of Gorilla Tape or something. I could see over time bands being cut through if the sharpness wasn't blunted some way.

    Awesome explanation about dorsal flexion. I didn't know anything about that. I definitely have issues with mobility in being able to squat deeper on a flat surface. Raising my heels immediately allows me to get a deeper squat.

    • @ShreddedDad
      @ShreddedDad  2 года назад +1

    Hi, are these not made to put your entire foot on? I noticed you only put about half your foot on them. Also, how do they feel compared to squat shoes?

  • @andyrausse3446
    @andyrausse3446 2 года назад +1

    Great video. I am looking into squat wedges but the thing confusing me is the incline angle I need. I see you can get lots of different inclines on the wedges. I see in your video you stand near the front of the wedge with your toes still in contact with the floor. Would you say it is possible to stand further back on them to get a larger heal raise or should you buy more than one set for the different angles?

    • @ShreddedDad
      @ShreddedDad  2 года назад +1

      With your hole foot on the wedge yes you’re gonna get a different angle then if you have your toes touching.
      So yeah you can change the angles a bit depending on how much of your feet are on/off the wedges
