Tropical Storm Debby set to slam Florida

- In Florida, residents are stacking sandbags and boarding up windows as Tropical Storm Debby is expected to strengthen rapidly before making landfall. Heavy rains have already begun and evacuations have been ordered in some areas. States of emergency are also in effect for Georgia and South Carolina. NBC News’ Marissa Parra reports on the storm.

@@user-cg3rq4jq6m We live on a peninsula aka almost an island. The only way to drive out of Florida is to head North. Failing that, we know how to hunker down just like island people do when we have no other choice. Living in Florida during hurricane season ain't for sissies. Living in Florida during the winter is sheer Heaven. It's a trade off that we gladly accept.
Oh heavenly father we pray for the safety of each and everyone through this storm keep them safe oh lord protect lives lord

It's not bad at all here on the west side of Tampa Bay in the Clearwater/Largo area either. Just tons of rain with very little wind. We need the rain because we have not had the average amount of precipitation that we usually get by this time of year. The rain from Debby is helping to make up for that deficit. Besides that, I love summer showers. The only things that are missing is thunder and lightening.

To my neighbors here in N FL, S GA:
Charge your devices, put a couple bottles of water in the freezer, and make sure cars are not under or near large trees. stay safe
Or out ice in washing machine with your food. Water can be and should be drunken at room temperature.
I live in Southeast Florida.
Do not forget Gorilla waterproof/repair tape.
Keeps water out, holds windows and doors tightly closed. Won't go through a hurricane or severe weather without it
And do not park your car in a low area.

Stuff like earthquakes, out of control forest fires and mudslides always happen in California and never happen in Florida. Saying this as a native Floridian. And by the way, California had a hurricane in 2023.

@@user-cg3rq4jq6m To native Floridians, a category one hurricane is a tiptoe through the tulips. It helps to break up the constant heat and humidity of our seven month long summers and clears all of the pollen out of the air.

There is no such thing as mandatory(!) evacuation for a storm. Big Brother can't force you out of your home. They can tell you that they may not be able to help you if you stay but it's still your choice, not theirs.
I've never left or had to leave home in all my years dealing with hurricanes. Just be prepared.

Why do insurance companies keep covering damages from this stuff? Time to permanently evacuate, I think. It's not going to stop.
FYI hurricanes don't hit western Georgia. Hurricanes turn into tropical storms when they cross land.

Florida should have been left as national park. Everyones insurance goes up just for other folks beach view. Not to mention the destroyed reefs and seagrass beds and starved manatees.
