Thank you!! This helps in my research. I presume this was Flier's first time in America. Gilels, his major competition, was sent there already in 1955. Flier got serious trouble to one of his right hand fingers in 1949.
My professor was in Flier’s first full conservatory class. After Igumnov died and Flier’s cyst really got in the way of his playing, he took on a full load at the conservatory. Bela Davidovich was in that same class (actually, exactly one year older), and Vlasenko came a couple years later.
As much as this is a very interesting historical document, it is possibly the worst performance of the Rach 3 I've ever heard. Most of the large chords were not correct and he simply couldn't play it. Absolutely dreadful
