  • This is the first time testing the new fully integrated naked BMPCC4K concept with "Flying Squirrel" V1. This drone weighs 1400g while carrying 2200mah 6S Lipo and Loawa 7.5mm with ND filter.
Sorry about the choppy footage, I forgot to set my shutter speed correctly. It has been about 3 months since I've been able to go out and fly. This project is still a work in progress, but based on the successful testing today, the Flying Squirrel should be ready by Fall this year.
It handled the windy conditions quite well for a relatively lightweight drone and that is because of the improved battery and lens layout and more compact frame which reduces rotational inertia. In addition, mitigating turbulent airflow on all 4 propeller inlets was one of the focuses of this design. The Flying Squirrel weighs almost 200g less than Le Pigeon.
I was trying an experimental motor/prop combination for this test (7inch up front and 6inch on the rear) and it results in some wonkyness when doing sharp yaw maneuvers. I will see if I can get some 6.5inch props to split the difference...

I’m curious why you’re doing The smaller prop in the rear?
On some past frames I’ve done 1/2” bigger or Biblades on rear and smaller upfront or triblade upfront.
I did this with the idea that the rears were losing efficiency from dirty air. So a bigger prop to increase efficiency or a biblade to increase acceleration.
    I liked how both flew.
The most noticeable was triblade in front and biblade in rear. It let me have epic acceleration; and a bit more grip in the turns.
Just curious what benefits you’ve found from this way of setting things up?
