This is my first digital camera and I don't know where I would be without your tutorials. As evidenced by the other comments, you have been a godsend. On a much larger level, the world can use more people like you, who care about helping others. Thank you!
Graham. Your book has been a great help. I reread pages 160-170 often which, for a beginner like me, provides the right questions to ask at each opportunity to photograph.
Terrific instructional videos Graham. Just bought an FZ300 so your series has been immensely helpful. In addition, I bought your book which is a great detailed backup to these videos. You’ve set a nice benchmark for instructional videos.
For anyone wondering how to get the small square focus mode instead of the grids when you press F2. The button you press is the left dial next to the menu/set button
Just wanted to say thank you for your content and especially this series. I've recently got in to photography with the fz300 and this series has been incredibly helpful and easy to understand for someone starting from literally nothing. It's making me more confident in trying out new settings and modes other than the Auto. Its definitely making the whole learning process easier and taking photographs more enjoyable. Will definitely be buying the full guide book once I get through this and have a little more experience. Once again, thank you so much :)
I've been using my FZ 2500 in P mode for a while - mostly outdoors & handheld. Been adjusting exposure as needed but after watching your video I can see other possibilities. The similarities of the 2 cameras make watching your FZ300 technical videos applicable to my camera. Thanks for your knowledge & presentation. Will keep an eye out for any FZ 2500 videos you might do.
Yes the two camera have lots of similarities. I will be looking at doing something on the FZ2000/2500 after I complete the user guide for the FZ1000 that I am still writing.
Excellent series,Graham, recently bought the full-300 plus the tele lens system and remote cables-various. Heavily into astronomy photography using a wide range of Canon & Nikon DSLR cams and too many lenses. Professional scientific/medical & forensic imaging specialist, I can still learn from others.
Hi Graham, thanks for your very instructive and helpful videos. Around minute 9:20 you are explaining about pinpoint option. Yet, i cannot select this option on my camera. Is there a problem with the setting of my camera?
Thank goodness for Graham!! I recently changed from an FZ150, which was fantastic to and FZ330. I am having real problems getting it to focus on butterflies. I have set it to centre focus, but the pictures are not sharp. With the FZ150 every scale and hair was visible. The FZ330 produces a fuzzy shot. Very poor depth of field and no point in perfect focus. My question, if I make changes in the P mode, do they remain for future use, so when I change from intelligent auto to P you suggested settings will still be there? Thank you.
Fantasiic video series, thank you so much! One thing I would ask if you are still monitoring these comments is the zoom. We have an Fz72 currently which has 60x optical zoom. This model 'only' has 24x. The 60x is great for capturing something miles away, but you do lose image quality. Will the 24x zoom be sufficient for further away things, or are we going to notice a big drop?
At 5:40 you press function button 2 and get the target focus. However I get an entire roster with the 9 rectangles in the middle highlighted yellow. How do you get the target focus?
I find your tutorials very informative and well explained. I’ve got one question thought. My only problem while shooting a video on the fz300 is the zoom noise, can you recommend an external mic which can be mounted on the camera and will the camera supports an external mic?
I think you're great. I've purchased your book and I've learned so much. But... I can't get the 'p' with the arrow to show up on my screen, Where am I going wrong???? Thank for any advice. Dee
I have been following these excellent video's but am having trouble with the f2 button that I have set, it only brings up a grid system that highlights 9 squares which I can move around but I can't make it smaller. It is not the symbol as on the video or the symbol I have saved. Has anyone else had this problem, that can help me. It is 5.43 on the video
How do you change the histogram from yellow back to white or is it okay to take a photo while the histogram is yellow? Does the yellow histogram degrade the photo? The yellow turning up confuses me.
Mam kupiłem i jestem bardzo zadowolony, największe zaskoczenie to szybkość działania zoomu i autofcusa. Rower nie ma problemu, motocykl nie ma problemu, ptaki, ludzie krajobrazy wymiata. Pozdrawiam niezdecydowanych.
I found your channel yesterday while researching the FZ300 and I must say your tutorials are first rate! Thanks for all the hard work. If I may ask a question, do you happen to know, If I connect a 4K monitor to the HDMI port, can I view the video on the 4K monitor as it is being recorded on the camera? If not, might a 1080P monitor work? Thanks again. Oh, also, can I buy the color PDF of your book directly or do I have to buy the B&W version at Amazon first? Looking forward to Part 4.
Unfortunately with the FZ300/330 it does not support HDMI during any recording mode. the colour PDF can be bought directly from my store page on my Photoblog. www.grahamhoughton.com/my-store/
That's too bad. I was really interested in the FZ300 but no HDMI during recording is pretty much a deal breaker. Could you recommend a 4K camera similar to the FZ300 that has the HDMI capability? Thanks again!
I got the camera and the book. book is confusing, doesn't explain the super zoom enough to be able to use it on auto. and on auto doesnt zoom worth a crap. am I now going to need to buy extra zoom lenses? my old camera has an awesome zoom, its a point and shoot canon powershot, for right now, it puts shame my new expensive Panasonic z300. I want to use this camera as a turn on point and shoot with instant zoom capability for far away birds in trees that fly away fast. as far as videos, nearly all of the ones i watch , i get lost after a few minuets due to all the techie words. too much on this camera for me,lol
ISO is camera sensitivity control and is independent to shutter speed. If you are in a semi auto mode like P A or M then changing iSO will cause a change in one of the other controls. If you are in Shutter priority mode the aperture will change. In Aperture priority the shutter speed will change and in P mode the combination of aperture/shutter speed will change
This is a $500 plus camera and it still has poor image quality above 400 ISO? Why spend so much then? My Kodak Z712S has decent Image at 400 or below ISO and it was only 22 bucks on E-bay and had a MSRP of 300 but was around 200 retail when it came out in 2007.

I don’t know how in the world you’re getting a thumbs down from anyone. This is awesome for new users . Thank you!!
They came here looking for aardvarks...there were no aardvarks....that's the only reason I can think of lol
Graham. Your book has been a great help. I reread pages 160-170 often which, for a beginner like me, provides the right questions to ask at each opportunity to photograph.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for taking the time to comment here.

Glad to help! Thank you for cheering me up!

Thanks, it shows other options, but not the same Graham shows...

Very easy to follow, many thanks
So happy! I'm gaining some confidence now! Thank You!

Very nice presentation. Thanks.
How does Sir Graham sound? I'm recommending you for a knighthood. Coming from the colonies it sadly won't carry much weight.
