What I always liked about the BoP campaign was how, for once, we don't have to be in the main Star Wars action with recognisable heroes and planets. It's a side plot where the Rebels are trying to form an alliance with the Airam smugglers and build extra shipyards so they're not dependent on one location, and the Empire has sent Task Force Vengeance to try to stop them. Not every WW2 film has to be D-Day and not every Star Wars game has to be Hoth or Endor again.
To be fair, Balance of Power is set sometime during the events of the Original Trilogy post-ANH and pre-RotJ and in the Rebel campaign the reccurring fighter squadrons are Green and Gold..... and.... ROGUE Squadron, so Rogue Leader is either Luke Skywalker or Wedge Antilles. The game just never spells it out, but it's kind of inferred since both pilots would be around for the OT incarnation of Rogue Squadron.
Finally hyperspace done right Not just talking about the ramming it always bothered me that why couldn't they jump to hyperspace going up or down
