  • The Kookaburra is a rare coin from the Perth mint. But what aren't they telling you about the coin? What secrets does the coin hide? Why is there a bird on it? How many of these coins are out there?

Haha kookaburra not boora, burra. Sorry just an aussie smiling at the pronounciation. Really great info mate. What i want to add is that several years ago they did restrikes of these. That annoyed many collectors greatly. The only way to tell the old ones are not restrikes is that they come in the square capsules you are showing.

Good to know :) I happened to come across them during a coin convention in Bern, a kind old man was looking to sell some pieces he collected over the years and I got them for about 30$ a piece, was really happy to pick them up.

2001 through 2006 vintages are hard to come by. If you can get a 10 oz under $450 and a 1kg under $1200, that's good. But make sure that the capsule is unopened and that there is no oxidation, milk stains or scratches on the coins. I just saw that a couple of 2006 Kookaburras are for sale right now. That's not often the case. The Mintage can be looked up on Wikipedia. Much luck!
