I have a menu set up for my Action Button, and when I clicked toggle silent mode, a bell icon would show up in the Dynamic Island. But now it doesn’t. Why did they change it. Now I don’t know if silent mode is on or not.
Hi Stephen, i have a shortcut question. i wanna make a shortcut when i ask Siri (on my homepod) to play a specific radiostation from TuneIn that it will start to play on my homepod and not on my iphone. it only works when i first ask it, than transfer it from my phone to my homepod but not directly. is there a solution for this?

Can you comment on the “share location” shortcut? Throws up “frame load interrupted” every time this shortcut is run. And it’s broken ever since update to iOS 17.
FYI, share location shortcut works fine on iOS 15.8.2.
Apple support page also has several people complaining about this.

I'd love to hear about how you organize your shortcuts, especially when you have so many. I have over 200 and have a hard time deciding how to organize them to make it easiest. I'd love to see how others are doing it. Thanks for the great content.
Great idea, I’ll include in a future video for sure. But the short version is I organize by “job” or “task.” So I have a folder of Shortcuts for Primary Technology podcast, a group for my RUclips videos, folder for TV Shortcuts, etc. I also typically search for a Shortcut and can even run it in Spotlight when needed, and I keep my most used Shortcuts in my Mac menu bar and in several widgets on iPad / iPhone.

Have added a mute shortcut to the back tap facility in accessibility which is brilliant.
I am sure as I use the phone more there will be other options to add which enhance and make smoother my daily routines.

There are some automation triggers you can use, but would be nice to use the orientation change as a trigger for sure.

This is so wonderful. I was just thinking today that I need to edit some shortcuts to not run while I'm driving and lo and behold, there is an awesome video explaining a new feature to do just that!
I have to ask again though, Stephen (especially since you use menu shortcuts)...you have NEVER had a menu-based or folder-based shortcut stall where you needed to restart to get menu-based ones running again? I'm STILL experiencing that problem and I can't believe so many more people are not. I don't know if it's because I have so many shortcuts, am low on RAM (??), because I don't use "stop shortcut" in my shortcut scripts, etc. I have no idea and no one else does either.

I’d love a shortcut that would allow me to choose where I save a scanned letter. I’m aiming to scan all relevant post so if I need something when I’m out I’ll have better access to it.

Hey there! You can take what’s on your clipboard and do lots of things, like append a Note, send that text to third party apps, but there is no actual “Paste” action

I’ve been going in circles myself for days now trying to create a shortcut that speaks the hour of the day that is forecast to be the highest temperature.

You can! Use the Music action to play a song or playlist, and then handoff playback action to send to a HomePod

You mean the Dynamic Island? You can’t force icons there unfortunately
@@beardfm No, not the dynamic island. The place where the focus mode icons are usually shown. So if we can automatically enable a focus mode based on the alert slider then it would be easier to know whether the phone is silent by seeing that icon. Hope you understand. Thanks
I use Reminders as an easy way to capture things on my mind. When I hit the action button, it brings up a menu that allows me to:
link a photo to reminder
link screenshot to a reminder
write something down via the keyboard and add to reminder
dictate text and add to reminder
a few other things, loving the new start conversation w/ GPT 4o ;)
However I feel the dictate text is the weakest as I find there is friction in making sure my words are being transcribed correctly which means I don't use it very often. I'd prefer to just be able to speak naturally and have a recording of my actual voice.
I'm trying to find a way to link a Reminder to some sort of audio recording (surprised I couldn't link a Voice Memo), or even video (I can add a photo as an attachment, but if I try to link to a video, I just get an image of the first frame). Curious if anyone has had success with this use case
Hm that's a tough one. You may be able to create a file from the voice recording, then link that file to the Reminder, but I'll have to play around and see.

Is there a way to automate silent mode on but it turns haptics (vibration) at specific time
I mean I want an automation that turns on silent mode midnight till 7am but turns off as well vibrate when silent and then reverse the action by 7am
If you have an iPhone 15 Pro, there is a silent mode action you can use in timed automations, yes!

I'm using my Apple Watch 7 as a sleep tracker. Every night I need to manually activate Theater Mode and Flight Mode, deactivate Wifi and sometimes activate Sleep Mode.
Is it possible to do this from an iPhone shortcut? Or would it be possible to create a shortcut on the watch?

So you can set Theater mode via a Shortcuts action, but not Airplane mode, Wifi or sleep unfortunately. Just search for "watch" in the Shortcuts actions and you'll see the theater mode option.

Great video! Do you know if you can toggle automations on/off via shortcuts? I have an automation that opens my garage when I get home, but I want to be able to toggle it off when I start an outdoor walk exercise so that my garage doesn’t open and close every time I pass my house walking around the block.
Do you use carplay? You can add an if statement that will only trigger if carplay is connected and otherwise it won't trigger.

I wish you could automate automations, but there isn't a way right now. Suggestion below is a great one though!
Can some one create a shortcut. If RUclips is open and i rotate my phone to landscape RUclips should be in landscape (full viewing mode)
Unfortunately Shortcuts can't use the current app as an :if: statement, but you can program an automation that whenever RUclips app opens, disable orientation lock, and when the app closes, re-enable it!

Yes! The get orientation works on iPad as well.
@@beardfm so if I’m connected to a monitor and using stage manager I can switch the orientation to meet the way I rotated the monitor.
Waiting on 17.4.1 release. 17.4 brought white screens, constant random reboots, loss of personal playlists.. I select the Shortcuts icon and the whole device locks up. After 3 DFUs, one by Apple..
My Watch Ultra 2 has been struggling with battery like on 10.4 as well, hoping to see that point update soon!
Apple snuck in some bugs too. Anyone noticed that trying to run a shorty that includes turning on a focus mode combined with other actions doesn’t run by voice command? But does run manually.
It’s been an issue for me since 17.4
But at least they fixed the find notes by tags problem

There is an accessibility option to mimic touches that can artificially tap in a passcode, but I would not recommend that

All these basic shortcuts should be baked into the OS already. Shortcuts just make up for the lack of programming at Apple.
