Great video! I have a ton of hours poured into Slay the Spire so it's nice to see you review some more fun options to branch out from there. I also really enjoy Across the Obelisk. Cheers m8
Also game from this deck building genre moonstone island - creature collection ratropolis - tower defense spin hero - spin machine dungeon clawler - claw machine
The Massive card games like MTG, Yugioh, Pokemon and others felt lik ethey carved out the space and only the large studios with a lot of backing could create these games. But Slay The Spire broke that ceiling and proved that smaller studios and any indie could carve out their own space in the genre.
@@BlueSapphyre that’s correct. StarCraft is the first game to use a deck-building mechanic as a small part of the game, however Dominion is the first true deck building game. Games can have deck building in them and not be a deck building game if that makes sense; which is where I would put StarCraft.
I love Dream Quest, still play it every now and then. I guess they left it out because it's not very well known and didn't have the impact Slay the Spire had
@@Gemwielders this is the correct answer. Slay the Spire essentially shaped the deck-building movement we are seeing today. Sure it took some inspiration from Dream Quest, but as you said Dream Quest isn’t exactly widely known.
I like singleplayer deck building games but not the roguelite ones. I like the ones where its rpg and you get to keep your cards or play vs ai bots like yugioh handheld games.
@Doodad-Entertainment i dont like starting from scratch amd repeating levels unless its my own choice like in rpgs trying different builds like diablo 2 or fallout 4
@@Doodad-Entertainment I'm going to reach out to you via email in the coming weeks with a project that I think you'll love. Would be great to see what you think :)

You should try Beneath Oresa then!
Not exactly a deck builder, but against the storm also uses roguelite elements to make a unique city builder experience.

moonstone island - creature collection
ratropolis - tower defense
spin hero - spin machine
dungeon clawler - claw machine
I love how much variety there is in the deck building genre! It is one of my favourite formats
@@GrapplingHookJones I agree! It’s one of the most innovative genres right now imo.
The only thing you didn't cover was the Draft formats of these collectible card games that DXV has cited as a huge influence on Dominion!
Great video! Would like to see a tier list of all the randomness (card, dice, building etc) games you have played so far
@@Chris3s perhaps in the future, we will see.
Very nice video, thank you. Nice summary of the history and I especially appreciate the richness and variety of shown material, very cool!

It’s always neat to look back and see the history of the genre when you’ve been there to see it start out. Look forward to perusing the channel!

Prior to dominion, there was the starcraft board game that had deck building. Researching new techs would add cards to your deck.

Was hoping to see Hexargy show up here. A nice combination of deck building and 4X, the perfect board game turned video.
.Forty-Five is a deck building duel where you load cards (bullets) into your gun. It's criminal that the author isn't charging anything for it.
@@PeteReborn Frostrain is another solid free deck-builder that I featured a couple times in the video.
No love for Dream Quest? Spire's gangly, sprawling forerunner?

Beneath Oresa for the winz
