  • Hello and welcome back. Im stoked to be back on the water and in this video I go from the Gold Coast to Shag Rock on an overnight boat camping trip. I do some fishing and spear fishing around Shag Rock and catch absolutely nothing. I also have a go at grabbing a cray fish and can't get that either. Despite this its great to just be out in the boat relaxing and having a few beers. That is was camping is all about.
    If you go to Shag Rock maybe you will have better luck so get out there and get into it.
    So hope you enjoy the video. If you want to support the channel, go check out the Aus Adventure website and grab yourself some merchandise.

    Cheers
    Shannon

    Yeah I agree with you on the Flathead, their pretty dry when they get that big anyway.
    It was crazy that reef was so empty of fish, they must come through periodically? Maybe Burley up the water? Could you try fishing for squid at night?
    It was all a great day in paradise anyway, thanks for the video!

    How is it sleeping in that Dune swag mate. Thinking about getting one for exactly what you are doing. Overnight fishing/ camping trips. Cheers

    • @AusAdventure
      @AusAdventure  3 года назад +2

      That swag is ok when its cooler but in summer it can get a bit hot. I do have a new swag which is also a Dune buts its the King single and has vents at both ends and is higher so it doesn't touch you when you are sleeping. That all makes it much more comfortable. Only thing is that it is much larger to store in the boat. On a clear night with the swag open I do find I sleep like a baby. Hope that helps

    • @AusAdventure
      @AusAdventure  3 года назад

      Took me about 2.5 hours. Pretty slow trip when the tinny is fully loaded

  • @AlexBegg1
    @AlexBegg1 3 года назад +1

    Hey Shannon, such a sick video man. I'm hoping to do the same thing and was just wondering if you had to go out through the bar between moreton and north straddie to access shag rock? I've got a similar tinnie and had heard that bar crossing can be pretty hairy, but from google maps it looks like you could sneak around close to shore on the northern point of straddie? Thanks man!

    • @AusAdventure
      @AusAdventure  3 года назад +1

      Hi Alex, yeah you do have to cross the south passage bar to get to Shag Rock. It can be a very dangerous bar so you want to cross it near the top of the incoming tide and when there is a small swell. I did stick pretty close to the shore of North Straddie when I did it.

    • @AlexBegg1
      @AlexBegg1 3 года назад

      @@AusAdventure awesome thanks so much for the info man. If you get low swell and the top of the rising tide is it more or less an easy journey? I haven’t done a bar crossing before so I’m a bit hesitant!

    • @AusAdventure
      @AusAdventure  3 года назад

      That’s the easiest time to cross a bar but you also need to take into account the wind and swell size. If you are in doubt about it being safe just don’t go.
