The migration of the young people to the big cities for a better life is a recurring feature of modernity in the region. Older and traditional handicrafts need new avenues of support and marketing. Your history lessons are really very good. The side details on the Vietnam conflict are so humbling.

Most underrated country in southeast Asians. I love the low key vide, authenticity cultural, nice, and honest people. My understanding most of the northeast of Thailand used to be Laos until France colonized and pulled out. As far as I can tell, most of the people in north east part of the Thailand region are the same as Laos far as the language, culture, and foods.

Can someone recommend a district or streets with lots of budget hotels in Vientiane. Don't say, Airbnb Agoda bookings etc, not interested in that SIMP inflated zero value prices

I think those are Vietnamese banh cuon 😅 which is pretty regular for Lao people to eat too. We call it banh cuon as well.
