My exposure to him was at Mr Oshima's Los Angeles dojo in the late 1960's. Egami had come for a brief visit and just standing there he had the look of complete madness. He would mumble to himself and sometimes he would burst out laughing for no reason at all. The Shotokai karate that he taught was weird and in my opinion worthless as a system of self defense. I was accustomed to JKA Shotokan and I thought Shotokai to be vastly inferior. Needless to say I did not stay long at that dojo. Mr Nishiyama's JKA style of karate is what I have always liked.@@DirkKingstonActor

The fact that your teachers were so arrogant as to demand the control of Funakoshi's funeral be taken out of the Funakoshi family's hands and placed in theirs demonstrated a supreme arrogance and a departure from what the training actually was.... When someone like you has no understanding of the political drives of the Universities karate clubs and who controlled them and the ego state that made Funakoshi's Karate totally inaccessible to them speaks about what they don't understand it's simply laughable.... Yes, yes, you're JKA / NHKK and I DELIGHT in punching holes through you and idiots LIKE you... Do you actually realise that the waza that YOU do was changed because it was FAR less effective than boxing? Boxers came to the dojo and smeared your teachers along the walls because their oi-tsuli didn't work - from 1952 Funakoshi directed Egami Sensei BACK to Okinawa to re-iterate and re-design the punch? Of course you didn't know, because your teachers were JUNIORS.... Get an idea before you open your mouth, it'll save you looking like a twat in front of people that do KNOW....
