Looks nice. I grew up with a Seat Leon Cupra, this model very much reminds me of it. back in Europe the brand was called Seat (the Spanish brother of the VW brands). Now they made it into the “sporty” brand of the group…
Dont know much about the brand, but boy do they make good looking cars. Seen a couple of ice ones on the road and they are really good looking, esp as hatchbacks and suv shapes are hard to make stand out from the crowd. Interior is really nice; im sure the centre console is a prototype; final production will be different
Here's hope that the feaures are the same for the Aus version. Only things I'm really missing on my Born are the charging routine (using the charger schedule as a workaround) and HUD.
Cheers! We can certainly explore that once I get a production car to review 🙏 From my reading online, the Tavascan although designed in Barcelona is produced in Anhui, China. I’m struggling to find a verified source as to the origin of their Li NMC batteries …
Thanks Tom for the intro video even if it is the LHD version. Love to know what software version Cupra are going using for these if it's the same version as say the ID.7 or whether it's the 3.x series that the VW ID.4 also uses which btw is terrible. Be interesting whether Cupra AU nobble it like they did with the Born in areas of connectivity and scheduled charging etc once you get a AU spec to review. I do like the look of it and as for piano black outside that is ok where all the bug splatter will be so a high pressure wash will clean those off with maybe abit of bug remover prior to help out. That peak DC charge rate I'm concerned about that should be 175kW peak I would have thought since the ID.4 now has that, software update did that, so it makes me think Cupra are using an older software release sadly.
Looks like they're keeping bidirectional charging for emergency use only (4,000 hours or 10,000 kwh). I wonder if the warranty has lapsed with they let you use it again? I've been looking into the V2L and using the car as a generator, per say with the home solar system. Most of the chinese manufacturers don't have a limit set, and my fear is they will limit it after purchase. I'm trying to learn more, but the manufacturers don't seem to provide a lot of information.
The issue I have with the vag products is that they are all based off the id3/4/5 so share the same platform. Great for cost cutting, but not great for efficiency. That's why they are heavy for their categories
I would never purchase a VW Group vehicle again. The service is poor and expensive not to mention they dont honour their warranty. Over Priced low quality cars with little support in Australia. All the Chinese cars are superior IMO. I purchased a Tesla straight after ownership of a VW group vehicle and it is like day and night. The Tesla is superior in every way. Dont disgard the chinese manufacturers either their offerings here in Australia are amazing and extremely good value. VW group vehicles are show ponies all show no go.
Sometimes it seems car makers do stuff just to be different… why not just four buttons for the windows on the drivers door, instead of the frankly ridiculous “feature” of having to press a button to switch which windows the two buttons control…? Copra’s look great, but as with Skoda in Australia, seem overpriced.
The Volvo EX-30 from memory also has the same toggle switch between front and back which I’m also unsure about tbh … hard to break old habits 😁 - Agreed, the Cupra styling is fantastic

Thanks Tom.
I like the look of the Cupra, I must admit.
Me too! 😭🥂

They look gorgeous no doubt

Stunning looking vehicles
Body design is very close to the Byd sealion 7. Both are very attractive. 😊
That’s high praise for the SL7!

Let's hope so ... and hopefully VW have sorted out their software and connectivity for Aus cars 🤞
Great video Tom, mate not sure if you can include at some point but would be good to know country of origin and same for the battery pack.

Pleasure 🥂 The software on my brief exploration felt very similar to that of the Skoda Enyaq which admittedly I also didn’t have much time with either

It’s a relatively nascent field and I’d say a lot of the OEMs are yet to figure out the goalposts

Also the software is a bit underdone I feel … at least that’s what I’ve experienced so far with the Born and Skoda Enyaq. UX could be improved …
Spoke to the guy at Atarmon this week. He said the HUD is not going to be available in the Australian version.
😭
Be spending hours polishing those fine piano black scratches out from just washing it.
Yup
Ok lets talk the important stuff:
Heads up display 😊.
rear windscreen wiper😢
sunglasses holder??
HUD = yes 🥂
Rear wiper = no 😭
sunglasses holder = also no 😭😭

@ thats strike 2
Looks gorgeous, but all that crappy VW tech and likely high price means not likely on my wish list.
Real shame isn’t it
The cars look great but technical No competition, the price is tooooo high for what you get
It’s the VW software that will let these beautiful cars down … Apple CP and AA will help somewhat I suppose

A lot of compelling options from Chinese brands … let’s hope their local servicing and support can back up their tech!
