I truly hope they bring this concept to the US, especially for New York city. Definitely the future of transportation in urban environments, would love to test went out one day.
The Toyota iroad looks better than motorcycle. Looks riders of no choice buying motorcycle because of other cheaper options, but if it in the market, surely riders will pick toyota iroad.
Loved this at first sight. If it were in production at a sane price, then despite the limited range I'd buy one. (give it a 40-50 Mile range and the potential user base would be greatly expanded, 30 miles is just okay.) Alas like most of these things it will never enter production. I just hope the Seat Minimo makes it into production next year as promised or I'll have to buy a Citroen Ami. The Ami is boring and has few of the points that make me want an I-Road but at least it IS IN PRODUCTION, a rare thing. Thank you for the video.
Take my money! Now! This is the best city commuter I have ever seen. If they made it about 15% longer to make it more comfortable for a passenger and maybe 15 miles faster and a bit more range and it would be a great commuter for almost anywhere. Maybe make the back seat so it can fold down for extra cargo for shopping. How does it handle at higher speeds? I have heard that can be a problem for rear wheel steering vehicles. This could be the vehicle that saves Toyota from their disastrous doubling down on hybrids and hydrogen.
I've fallen in love with the promise of the Nimbus One EV... and this looks very similar. I wonder if this is where Nimbus got part of their inspiration. Sometimes a lighter startup like Nimbus gets off the dime sooner than a much bigger and established company. Thanks for the great insight!
They could be on to a winner!Fun commuting for everyone!in my opinion to succeed with this idea they need to: 1. Have 4 wheels instead of three, and add abs, anti-slip traction control for wet roads. 2. Driving position needs to be more lying down in order to take that high roof line down and it will give better stability as bonus. 3. Needs to be a 2 seater minimum, becaue scooters, bikes are 2 seaters. 4. Top speed need to go up from 45,60 km/h to atleast 110km/h. With sexy EV standout acceleration. 5. Range minimum 150km wltp. 6. Price maximum 15-20.000 dollar/euro. I will book 2, and park them on my 1 car parking spot. thank you very much. 😎
It has ABS / Traction control already. It also does have 2 seats in tandem. What it needed was AC, more power and better visibility. I do have to say that besides driving the LFA, it's my second choice to drive since it was so different in every way! Super fun concept!
@@sanddrifterjb super. Just a few things to add then. Yes that visibility seems awful. To be global success it needs that capability of wet and snow conditions and 1 rear wheel can be problematic. Even putting a frugal 125-300cc single cylinder scooter engine option would not be bad too realising asian markets and not to worry about the battery(keep costs low)
I 100% agree but after testing in multiple cities some years ago, Toyota USA had to consider laws that were in place. They also needed to decide if it would go under the motorcycle laws or automobile category. In the end, I think Toyota was on board but the markets, for instance, New York was not ideal for them.
Don't see the use case, though they've gotten this far in development, they think so. It's competing with motorcycles and bicycles in large cities. It has elemental protection and some security, but I doubt they can compete on cost.
Smashed Hulk agree. I think with my time around it for so long, there are some ideal markets for it but not as many as initially thought. It makes perfect sense in places like Paris or Italy but Arizona where I live? Not unless I put a golf bag on the back. I can see maybe mounting up a surf rack for some. The best part about it is how it drives. Lots of fun 🤘
Well, they ought to triple its size, so it is a 4 seater., and ofcourse make it able to go at least 75 mph, and be all electric. I guess they’re just experimenting with it.
Price? I didn't hear it mentioned. A solar panel on roof to charge while at work would be nice, or high output generators in front wheels to run motor while in motion should be looked into. Longer Range would steal the market.
I think will be good vehicles for disables like I said I’m from Newfoundland and Labrador Canada, can you help me get funding for this automobile, and one question? Do you need a license for this machine bc it’s electric and don’t go over 100
@@sanddrifterjb honestly why are ye promoting something if u don't know if it will ever be presentable, I can already let u know that they need to be solar so they never loose charge during the day, I think side walls should be everywhere so disables can have these, u go up on the left sides come back on the right, no matter what if you're on the sidewalk u should be always going against traffic ,these vehicles are small enough to travel on site walks let's make our world more accessible
Why do ye make RUclips videos of concept vehicles that will never come to market do ye peeps like getting our hopes up, honestly I think if these iroads were affordable you sell. More and make more, like idk why houses vehicles etc r so expensive if things/products were sold cheaper you will sell double maybe even triple more and make more but nobody understands u just think that if u sell expensive u will sell/make more no a lot of ppl can't afford which will bring your number of sells down, where if you sold cheaper ppl would buy them as gifts for whoever you would sell 100times more
I really don’t know why we have not seen it come out yet. I can tell you Toyota did get the legal classification done but that is the last I have heard in a year.
Well it depends where you live? I live in Phoenix and in the summer with no air or even air movement inside the vehicle you are looking at 120 degrees + easily. Not ideal ....
I would say it might be tight for you at 6'3" I am 5'9" and have a lot of room still above me. It is however, low so that might also be difficult for a taller person. Yes, it is a little loud in at higher speeds inside the cabin. Their is zero noise reduction or damping to make it quieter but it is an acceptable level.

@@sanddrifterjb I'm surprised no one has built something like a Yamaha Tricity or Piaggio MP3 scooter with a lightweight, aerodynamic, removable weather enclosure (aluminum frame with tough plastic panels) It would be much more practical than a Toyota I-road, since it could travel at hwy speeds like motorcycle, with long range and be used in rain, cold weather. The 3 wheel reversed trike design is much safer to ride on wet roads than a 2 wheel scooter. ElevationEveryWeekend yeah I thought it would be fun to share my adventures over the years in this thing. I keep telling Toyota to give me one so I can build a SEMA overland version with Fox shocks and moto tires!
ElevationEveryWeekend hey question for you. You look to be a mountain bike guy! What’s your thoughts on the 2020 StumpJumper EVO comp 29er? I am wanting it but not sure on the Carbon or if the Alloy would do?
JOE BACAL Hey Joe. I’ve never ridden that specific bike, but those bikes are definitely highly regarded, can’t go wrong with anything they make. Actually these days nobody makes a bad bike. Alloy bikes are great, but the carbon versions are a little lighter and sometimes a little stiffer, but a sizable jump in cost. If you will apply your attention to detail to MTB that you do to cars, those subtleties may be worth the extra cost, especially if you ride a lot near the limits.
ElevationEveryWeekend I appreciate that input. I have a Sponsored rider who is helping me get a bike. I come from racing moto so I think I may like the Carbon better. Even with a substantial discount it may make sense. Thank you!
Toyota never intends to sell EVs. Micro evs especially. That's a problem They're gaining plenty of sales in China, and plenty of interest in Europe for years now.
Just make/add a lightweight, aerodynamic, removable weather enclosure to a Yamaha Tricity or Piaggio MP3 reverse trike 3 wheel scooter and call it a day.

i love electric vechicles, but with only 30 mile range I have to agree. if the range was 90 miles or you could swap the battery pack it would make this much better.
What's the point of this? if nobody gets to ride or buy it but a selected few. This has been out for more than a decade? And it'll remian a concept that will be tuck away in a museum somewhere. Such a pity. It would have been a game changer, way too expensive that it defeats the very purpose it serves.
Sorry to waste your time. Just thought I would share. I can agree with you that it should have been out for purchase. The issue is they planned to but now only available over seas in select areas from what I was told. I don’t work for Toyota so just my experience driving them.
@@sanddrifterjb Maybe the sole reason they haven't started mass production yet is that they are afraid of the consenquences: If there would be such a high demand for it, that would kill a lot of their own cars they make in that price category: market cannibalism, it can go either way: very good or very bad. Carver Earth is available now for 12000 USD but it looks hideous compared to this. I must add, both are pretty weak in max speed and distance, so there's room for improvement.
