In this 2 minute tutorial, I cover the 3 major mistakes you're probably making on kick offs and how to fix them.

How I got here…
🔹12 yrs old: Started uploading minecraft videos at / @luke23mc
🔹16 yrs old: Switched to uploading Fortnite videos on this channel. You can go to my uploads sort oldest to newest to see all of my old Fortnite videos
🔹18 yrs old: Switched from Fortnite to Rocket League videos during Covid. I also began coaching players 1-on-1 on / spookluke
🔹19 yrs old: Rocket League went free to play and my channel blew up. To keep up with the demand for coaching, started the Grand Champ Roadmap --a rocket league course business
🔹20 yrs old: Developed company and continued to scale course business. Eventually, I dropped out of school to pursue RUclips and the company full-time.
🔹21 yrs old: Switched from selling courses to coaching only. Released all courses for free on www.skool.com/.... Transformed GCR into GCB. Doubled coaching duration, cut price in half. Seeing results improve and students happier was worth making less money.
🔹22 yrs old: @Virge joined as director of coaching to further improve the coaching experience and help us make more free Rocket league content that is accessible to everyone.

@@chaserhd4415 only cheat on kickoff if youre confident in your teammates kickoff. if he sucks, its more likely for you to get scored on if you follow.

Nice video and great tip about the barrel rolling, but I wish he would mention that if you do them mindlessly, most of these types of kickoffs will likely result in possession for the other team in 3s, as ideally you'd like to "lose" the kickoff to a teammate.

Bro i never did the kickoff and i win the possession of the ball in 3s. Since most of you will shoot to our side
@@ChitaJunior Very true. I pull out my custom controlled fake kickoff sometimes as well which gives my team possession almost everytime, but often get flamed for "trolling" by not going for it.
Almost skipped this video because I thought "I know how to speed flip kickoff," but I'm so glad I stayed for the whole thing. I actually learned something. Thanks!
I get A LOT of milage from holding back just a little bit on the second flip. If you let the opponent hit their flip, and just meet the ball with your nose, you can redirect 80% of the time. And if not, you're not having to move through a full flip.
the worst kickoffs is when the second player is inactive or go for the boost on kickoffs. the second man needs to be close so they can win the second ball.
lol i seem to have gotten to grandchamp fine while still doin the normal boost-all-the-way kickoff

I did not know a barrel roll is used in kickoffs.
Didn't know it beats other flips too.

One thing i figured out with kickoffs is that you want to barrel roll if you want to *WIN* the kickoff but if you want a solid kickoff you want to face sideways and sideflip into the challenge to *KILL* the ball's momentum
Only thing this was missing was the price drop lol! Yeah damn I've done most of these "mistakes" here for fun I never thought about the actual ball touch on the kickoff before though nice job big guy ♡

can't believe how much i thought about my kickoffs today and youtube give me this.
I swear I have the worst luck, almost every single kickoff either goes right into my goal, or goes towards it into a position where it can be immediately hit into it 😭💀

kickoff is no luck, practice it with your friends in private matches and go for every kickoff possible in ranked (only the equal ones of course). watch your opponent while youre at it, adjust your car so it doesnt get 50´d around you and keep the 3 mistakes in mind.
It's not luck, that's why you should learn how to do proper kickoffs.

I like to do a wave dash kickoff it is probably one of the best in my opinion it can beat fast kickoffs, delayed and other kickoffs

nah doesn't matter, if you can do 1 consistently that's good enough, I'm C3 and only use 1
What's your opinion on delayed flips during kick offs I feel this gives multiple options on things you can do and react if needed
Great video, but I couldn't help but laugh at the adjustable wrench, ratcheting... from the wrong end lol.
While Luke mentions that one should side flip into the 50, appjack constantly mentions that he speed flips into the 50 (you can even see it in his kickoff replay), and the times where he doesn't line up properly for it and ends up having to side flip are times where he's gonna be losing the kickoff due to a mechanical error (his words in one of his videos), so which is better ultimately, side flipping or speed flipping?

Not sure about GC, but I'm C2 and my front flip kick offs are still very efficient. I can win ball to my teammate majority of the time 🤔 Thoughts?
You should do front flips though in 1v1s because if your opponent barrel rolls when you front flip, he’ll land in front of the ball and the ball will just go past you.
because when using a front flip, just as luke said, youre using less boost through the flip, which makes you slower and therefore delays your kickoff slightly. and slightly delayed kickoffs in general are great for giving the ball a certain direction (mostly in your own half) because you can watch your opponent and adjust properly.
I think it's a matter of efficiency , i prefer to do front flips which have an efficiency of 90%+ than to learn a new mechanic which takes a lot of refinement to get in the same efficiency scaling

Damn it Luke, my kick off is my strongest move. Now it’s going to be way harder to get out of plat in 1’s. Lol
On diagonal kickoffs what SpookLuke is saying here is just not true. I speedflip with NAR doing a left diagonal cancel, so when im in the right corner spawn i do turn upfield, but when I'm in the left corner spawn, i just speedflip without turning at all. If i was speedflipping doing a right diagonal cancel then what I do would reverse.

When you say “barrel roll” were you sideflipping or just jumping & using air roll?

i found out that i land faster and more controlled if i stop driving foreward and just boost into the ball. but im not sure if it's just me or if there is any gamephysics behind that.
i can do diagonal kick offs.. .haven't bothered with speed flip. But honestly i barely play and went back to just front flipping. Tbh, not much difference playing 3's doing it. If you can read what the other guys intentions are with his kickoff it's pretty easy to win or stalemate majority of kickoffs. Even when they speed flip, because it's really obviously (generally) what direction they are going to hit the ball too and you can stuff it. I don't play enough to give a shit anymore but even barely playing GC1 living and peaked at GC3 back when i actually played quite a bit fwiw.
agree. youtubers just need content. i am playing with a friend. so i always “loose” kick off into friends possession. no point in winning kickoffs if you are not playing 1vs1

Tired of hitting the ball just for me to be launched into my opponents net while the ball heads straight for my goal.
Is it a problem having L2 be both reverse and your free air roll? Been debating putting my airroll on L1 so they are separate. Could also make L1 my drift for clean landing. Thoughts?
I do L1 for air roll and drift, makes it super easy to land clean and maintain momentum

i watch my opponent and my team mates, then decide what to do ... getting there first or faster don't mean much if you don't know where the ball is going to go, or can't make it go where you want
so usually i rush to the ball, "land" or slow down 1-3 car lengths away from it, and then decide what to do

I have a problem. I do a speed-flip to the left, but on the left-side diagnol spawn, if I turn up-field instead of in-field then i won't even hit the ball. But he's saying to turn up-field, so do I have to like adjust my car majorly or is there something else that I just didn't get. If so pls tell me
On left diagonal
Go a bit right to the boost
Go a bit left
Then speed flip top right

@@ethanthardy if youre speedflipping to the left, you usually adjust your car a tiny bit to the right, if youre on the left diagonal spot, do you? do the same thing but a bit more on the right diagonal spot.

Sure u can, u just need to practice more.
U have to practice either way so might as well practice doing it the best way, which would be being able to go left or right rather than go the rest of your life saying "I can't go right"
not everyone uses right air roll so 1:14 isnt always true im pretty sure

it may work up until a certain rank, but its not optimal.
Am I the only one that simply drives straight & barrel rolls last second with just a tad of a turn towards the ball and somehow still win most of the kickoffs? I've never seen it suggested by ANYONE, yet still beat people properly speed flipping..
what rank are you? Cuz if you don't flip on kickoff, i can take the kickoff with a speed flip without you even touching the ball lol

I do better when I get there second and just counter the kickoff. I just watch the other car and mirror his position. Takes zero practice and I do just fine with it. 🤷♂️

Because "kick-off" is the name for the identical starting position in the traditional football (soccer of you're a weirdo)

I've only seen Arsenal speedflip left from every single kickoff position.
because many people only practice one way of speedflipping. if you adjust your car in the beginning right before doing the flip, you can still land perfectly in front of the ball coming from both sides.

this workds but if you have a speedflip kickoff like me but are going against people that dont even flip then side flipping isnt the way to go. its only good if you both hit the ball at the same time
in that scenario side flipping is even better. if your opponent is much slower than you, you just need to delay your sideflip a tiny bit. press jump just right before hitting the ball, this makes you shoot the ball at the opponent without committing to the flip already, the ball should bounce back off of him, then you use your dodge to the left or right depending on which direction the ball comes back. youre gonna force the ball in their half pretty hard. test it out for a few days, its an absolute hardcounter to slow kickoffs. coming from a gc2 whos strongest part absolutely is the kickoff.
