very good video with very helpful tips!
the tip about using incognito mode to search - such a great tip! If only I had known earlier...
Thanks so much! Now you know for next time :-)
Thank you so much for this video! :) I look forward to seeing your upcoming videos!
Thanks, glad you found it helpful!! :-D
As for the price my friend booked the flight but I know he got a really good deal and it was about $500 from JFK in New York to Haneda in Tokyo with one stop in Beijing. That's round-trip.
Always jealous of the fares from the USA, they seem less than the UK!
amazing wonder which site he used?
Jesus , Phil that's a steal. My closest was about $850 If I remember. What month of the year was that?
I was able to get a roundtrip from Charlotte North Carolina to Haneda for about $500 with Scotts Cheap Flights
Just paid 487 roundtrip from Vancouver to Tokyo nonstop 😀
Just found out about your channel, loving everything! You've been to a lot of places I want to visit AND you're vegetarian too! Thank you so much for the videos! My dream is visiting Japan and I'm already saving and researching everything I can so I can go next year. This is really helpful. :)
Thanks so much! I hope you can make it to Japan - if you like all these things, you'll definitely love it there! :-)
We just fly nonstop from Chicago to Narita. It’s about 12 hours. It was about $1900 US round trip. Flew on American Airlines Dreamliner.
Ooh you're lucky to go on a Dreamliner, I'd love to go on one! :-) Having flown non-direct now, direct flights are a lot less tiring!
What month did you go?
On my first Japan trip, I had a 18 hour stop-over in Taipei. I took this time to explore the city and try local dim-sums.
Just make sure to be back at the airport early. I know China doesn't require visas for short stop-overs as well. So it's also a good option to extend the holidays.
That must have been great to explore another place as well.
I did invest in a business class ticket for this January japan trip; can’t wait to be there :)
Wooo business class, that should be really comfy! And you can make the most of it on the long flight!
I am doing the same when I go! Super happy and excited for it! Expensive but I am decently tall and even a 6 hour flight I had to Ireland (from Canada) was getting a bit much and I definitely couldn't sleep (I did a red eye). So I think I will need business in order to get any rest. Hope your trip went well!!!
10:11 or 10:12 when you said thanks for watching I literally started to bow and say "No, thank you thank you"
Very polite! 🙏😝
Incognito mode doesn't stop websites from collecting your data, it just means your computer doesn't save your visit to the site. Airline companies save your IP address and raise prices as you visit the site more. The best way to check prices is to log on using WiFi at a cafe or at work, then order the tickets you want from home.
Thanks for the tip!
@@cakeswithfaces Thanks for the videos!
From New York, where I flew out of its about 17 hours. Of course we had a layover in Beijing so add another couple hours to my flight.
This was a very helpful video, especially the last section. It never occurred to me to pack a suitcase inside ANOTHER suitcase for the flight to Japan.
Thanks, *Cakes with Faces*! :D
Thanks! Haha, packing tricks ;-)
I have packed a small suitcase into a large one on some of my trips. Also mailed gifts home instead of carrying them with me. Also mailed clothing home before leaving to make more room in my suitcase.
Thank you 🙏 Amy! . THE BEST video so far you made that really answers my questions about travels. Your vlogs and hyperjapan are making my Tokyo trip a reality. Travel agent too expensive. Will now book for next year definitely soon. My day dreaming of wishing to travel to japan will soon be over ; ) you are the best, relevant japan vlogger on RUclips. I’m off to Taiwan in June, I’ve heard the sushi is quite good there, but not as good as japan obviously. I hope you one day to a calibration RUclips video with China’s original vlogger ‘serpentza’. I hope to live permanently in east Asia in the distant future. 😊
Thanks so much, that's really kind of you! I'm so glad it helps - and I hope you can make it to Japan. Taiwan will be amazing - have a great trip! I'll look up serpentza :-) I only really know Japan vloggers!
Going again in June, cheapest flight I found to Narita is with KLM flying from Newcastle, North East England, transferring at Schiphol, Amsterdam.
Sounds good - and transfers can be great if you want to fly from a regional airport, so you don't have to go all the way to London!
booking flight - Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday are always the cheapest days to fly. If you book at least half a year in advance, you get the best price. Don't cheap out on convenience, if way better flight is only 100 eur more, take it. Ticket prices change all the time despite if you're looking at them all day long or not. Price depends on a lot of things, but mostly on how close is the date and how many tickets to particular flight are already sold. It's best to be the 1st one. Haneda airport is usually more expensive and Tokyo monorail is severely overcrowded 24/7. For travellers I'd highly recommend to get JRpass to feel free to hop on and off any JR train any time, with some small exceptions. From Narita to Tokyo station it takes exactly 57 minutes to get by NEX, it's big and comfortable and free for JRpass owners. Keisei line is 3 times cheaper, but can get super crowded. Also Bus ride is roughly 2 hours. Good luck on your next trip.
Thanks for sharing the tips!
I've used the airport limousine shuttle. The TCAT is so close to the hotel I like to stay at. The bad part is that you take the expressway and can get stuck in traffic, depending on the time.
The road to the airport's always a busy route!
Thanks
I book months in advance usually with British Airways . I usually go premier economy and get it at economy priced ticket . But it's all about shopping around for airline tickets . I found BA good . For internal flights in japan I use SKY which is a Japanese version of a Budget airline ie I did Tokyo Henada to Okinawa NaHa pretty cheaply . But I brought on the day after arriving from Heathrow I just tossed a coin and said why not Okinawa. But I will book on line next time . ANA & JAL tend to be slightly more expensive . Lastly their are other budget airlines in Japan.
But as this lovely lady has said shop and shop around for plane tickets . Happy travels to all in 2021. Stay well and safe where ever you are and from.
Thanks for the recommendations! That must have been exciting, deciding on the spur of the moment where to go when you arrived. Happy New Year!
Hey gurl love all your videos 💕 super helpful 😄 I really want to go Japan this year 2021, hopefully. As we know we still lockdown in England 😩 I want to know from you if I should book flight tickets or not? 🤔🤔🤔
Thank you!! I can't wait to go back too! I can't say what you should do - that should be your decision. For me personally, I'm waiting to see what happens before booking anything. Luckily I got a refund on my cancelled trip last year but I don't want to risk having to cancel again as it's still so unpredictable - right now no one knows when it'll be safe to travel again, or when Japan will lift the entry ban on tourists. Fingers crossed for safe travels soon! :-)
When all this is over me and my cousin are planning a trip to Japan in 2021 to go see Aqours from Love Live. I don't think I've been more excited about a trip in years! Can't wait to take your advice
You'll love it! :-) There's so much Love Live stuff around Akihabara!
I just got the best fare of my life from Honolulu Hawaii direct to Tokyo (Narita unfortunately,) for only $319 US Round-trip! That's about the same as the taxes and fees alone on some mileage tickets I've booked in the past. I booked with JTB and they have been really helpful, I can book my Japan Rail Pass and pick it up in person right at their Honolulu office too!
Wow, that's amazing! I don't know how much fares usually are from Hawaii but that's a great price, good find!
@@cakeswithfaces I would say that in general prices from Hawaii to Japan are very cheap, but again that makes sense since it's only about a 9 hour flight, whereas from the mainland USA it's a minimum of 11 hours. It's also a very popular destination for Japanese tourists, so there are several direct flights every day, even to Sapporo, Fukuoka and Nagoya in addition to the usual suspects of Tokyo and Osaka. A good deal from Hawaii to Tokyo is around $500-600 US typically, so getting this price is really nice for me!
Yes I'd heard that lots of people in Japan go to Hawaii on holiday. I'd love to go there one day, but the flight from the UK's so long!! :-)
For me it’s like 36 hours and I’m taking my whole family (my moms side) I’m bringing along 2 friends because the hotel anyone 0-12 years old stay for free I am redecorating my room to do my calculator says 1509 the most I’m planning to spend is 2,000 by the time we book I will plan on having 2,000 then I will have a little more when we get there
You'll have an amazing time! It'll be worth all the saving up - good luck! :-)
can you explain the visa process in a little more detail how does the process happen and what should a person flying in expect. since i am from the Bahamas i tried looking it up but it helps to know how it works.
I don’t know if it’s different for the Bahamas, but for people from the UK, if you’re going as a tourist for less than 90 days, you just have to fill in the slip they give you on the plane, there’s nothing to do in advance.
Very helpful . I would only ever book direct with the airline I’m flying with as I’m not a fan of third party agents especially going all that way , we were thinking premium economy with BA direct from Heathrow and that’s about 2100 return for 2 of us so overtime I’m smashing lol your advice is much appreciated cheers
Wow, premium economy will be great - and you'll be able to make the most of it on a long flight! I agree, there's no point booking with agents when you can book it directly yourself! :-)
Cakes with Faces good Moro morning, maybe a change of plan. ANA have a great name so we may book these economy only , do you know if you book online direct with ANA can you chose your seats as I think it’s a 2-4-2 configuration and that would be great to just have a 2 seats rather than 3 a bit more privacy lol many thanks for your help
ANA are rated very highly and I've always liked them. Yes, you can choose your seats if you book direct, you can log in after you've booked and pick them - I always like the 2 on their own as well!! Last time (and I don't know if they've changed this now) it was free to choose seats as well - some airlines charge an extortionate amount for that.
Cakes with Faces Thankyou and sorry to ask you questions all the time lol 😆
You will have an exceptional flight with lufthansa airlines as their one of the worlds big players and excellent reviews , what route are you taking out of interest cheers
09:05 seeing the video of the SkyTree in Tokyo is surreal, quite impressive and good filming. Can you actually go inside this tower ? Thanks for the video.
Yes! There's an observation deck - the view's quite different from other towers in Tokyo, on another level (literally!). You can see it in this video: ruclips.net/video/9KJQA5ZX3U8/видео.html
5:30 I flew with Air China and they were not very good. Very little leg room, staff was friendly and food was decent I feel like but you can't use your cell phone at all! Even in airplane mode. They make you turn it off for the whole flight. And most of the movies were Chinese. I think there were only 3 or 4 movie in English.
Air China had the absolute cheapest price when I was last looking to book, but I had a feeling it might come at a price. There were too many stops as well.
From Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada it’s about $1200 - $1400. $800 is cheap
Flights are so expensive!! But worth it when you get to see amazing places! :-)
Hi darling I just wanted to say thank you- my shirt and dress I bought from your Etsy are lovely. Secondly- I am guessing one can buy the Suica card online before going right? That and the card you need to buy drinks and cigarettes from the vending machines- I would want to buy that one online before too
Yay, so glad you like them! :-D You can get a Suica card from here: www.japan-rail-pass.co.uk/services/suica-card You can also get one from ticket machines when you're there. And the card to buy things from vending machines - that's a Suica too, it does everything! (Most vending machines take cash so you don't have to use your Suica - but it's more fun!)
Cakes with Faces Oh sweet honey! Thank you!! 👌☺️
What bring things back from Japan... UNHEARD OF... lol I would try to fit a sushi chef in there if I could.
Excellent idea! Why didn't I think of that...?! (*≧ω≦*)
virgin dont fly london to tokyo any more, but ANA is nice. KLM are good (friends hove flown the trip) if you want to go from Cardiff or Bristol (& heathrow) and dont want to go all the way to london. the flights go via paris or Amsterdam. Cardiff or Bristol you can do it in 14.5 hours (check the flight times). but i would its rather spend 3 hours on the plane than 3 hour on a coach. and cost about £650 return all in.
Russell williams Good tip! That’s a good price and 14.5 hours isn’t too bad. :-)
Can you do a new video on this topic. I want to travel out there but the prices are extreme!
I haven't looked at prices recently (I'm waiting to see what happens before booking anything, as it's so unpredictable right now) but it's not a normal situation at the moment so prices will probably be abnormal. The booking process would be similar to this, for finding the best prices. Hoping prices don't rise too much once international travel restarts - obviously airlines need to make up for a lot of lost income.
Hi, just wondering about the Airmiles option. I used to use them to go to Boston for free and then they changed the rules. Is it still the case of paying the tax? For Boston, it was working about the same price on sites without the Airmiles. I'd forgotten about the option until you mentioned it :) Thanks for doing these videos. I'm hoping to visit Tokyo next year and they're a real help!
Last time I had to pay the taxes, but it depends on the programme. They each have their own rules, but it's worth checking! Enjoy your Japlanning! :-)
Cheers, I will check it out :)
Do you have a 'declare' your KitKats and Figures when coming back to the UK?
No - you can just pack them in your suitcase and you don't need to declare them. Sweets are fine to bring home - it's only fresh foods eg meat that are restricted - probably best to avoid them!!
@@cakeswithfaces about to go to JP and was worried about this. I am gonna get a lot of crap
Thank you so much! Very helpful as always =D Booking flights was defo the most stressful and difficult part for me and my boyfriend. We ended up getting an indirect flight with finnair for £520pp, so fingers crossed it's a good comfortable journey! I also read that if you get the Narita express, you can't use your suica and you have to have a physical ticket. Do you know if this is right? xx
That's a great price, well done! :-) I think with the round trip ticket for the Narita Express, you get a discount (it says 33% off), so it's better to get that ticket separately. They used to have a package called the N'Ex where you got a Suica and the Narita Express ticket together, but they don't have it any more (just in case you see that mentioned online anywhere).
Thank you! Ahh ok, thanks for the info!
Finnair is relatively cheap and comfortable with great service. I fly with them all the time.
I am visiting friends in Japan next year. I thought they lived in Tokyo, but turns out they live in Oita, quite a ways away. I will be flying into Narita. Since I'm arriving in the afternoon, I figured on taking a flight from Haneda to Oita and then take a train from Oita to the airport when leaving Japan. How long does it take to go through customs and then travel to Haneda. Will the train from Narita take me to Haneda airport, or do I need to go into Tokyo and then take a taxi?
Sounds fun! I always wish I knew someone local who could show me all the best places to go!
You'll need to take the train from Narita into Tokyo, then take the train to Haneda.
From Narita to Tokyo: I take the Narita Express (N'Ex) - it's not the cheapest, but it's comfortable and there are spaces for suitcases. It's only for the airport so you won't get caught up with commuters. It takes about an hour. There are cheaper options (Keisei Limited Express train or buses).
If you take the N'Ex to Shinagawa, from there you can take the Keikyu Line straight to Haneda Airport. (Only about half an hour)

whaaaaaaaaat how are ur flights so cheap! from hyannis to tokyo is literally like 5,000 dollars!!! im only 12 i dont think ill ever get to go to japan
Really? I'd always heard flights from the USA are cheaper, but maybe that was from the west coast.
@@cakeswithfaces yep. our plane tickets were about 1000 each. and i doubt that kandy's assumption of 5000 is true. maybe for first class, but not economy.
@@nintendoknight1808 Sounds like it might be - or maybe just bad luck picking a holiday date or something!
@@cakeswithfaces I'm confused what area OP is coming from . Just a month ago I'd seen a round trip from JFK to Haneda for $860 flat. And new york is as far off as it goes, No?
Don't give up. Dreams come True!
Oh inflation! If I saw a flight for £400 I would book it without hesitation. Unfortunately the cheapest flight I have seen this year is £900!
Things are so different now! 😭😭😭 Seems so cheap looking back now!
@@cakeswithfaces It's not going to stop me though! I've just finished my passport renewal application and I have ordered your guidebook. Maybe a miracle will happen and the prices will fall in the next few months?
@@addisonroux4417 Thanks for ordering my book! Some airlines aren't operating at full capacity yet so hopefully as they get back to normal the prices might drop. 🤞🤞🤞 The fares for my flights have gone up and down so much (even day by day) since I booked in October.
With regards to luggage do you know if you are allowed a standard sized rucksack to take on board the plane as well as your suitcases?
Or does it vary by airline?
I've taken a normal backpack before as hand luggage. The large backpacking ones would probably be too big, but regular like the one I'm wearing in lots of my videos is fine. It does vary by airline so check the guidelines, but I think most would allow that in my experience.
at 2020 i have to go to japan but i have school.. i dont eat japanese foods..
That'll be amazing! You'll be ok, there are all types of food, not just Japanese food. Did you see this vid, it might help! :-) ruclips.net/video/TQU_qmSme9s/видео.html
I really want to to travel to Hakodate, Japan on my 21st birthday. (May 1st. 2021. I'd like to go for a week. End of April- May 5thish)
(from Los Angeles)
but there is not much information :/
Most vids are about Tokyo
(In general)
Great plan! I found the same thing when I was planning my trip to Hokkaido (and in fact any other places in Japan!) - most videos are about Tokyo. That's why I like to try and share other places too :-) Did you see my playlist about Hokkaido? There are a couple of Hakodate videos: ruclips.net/p/PL-YXkErUfa4kjeiMIWkNHDy1JDCRySt_Y

@@cakeswithfaces ty!
Yeah, most vids are about Toyko or other main popular cities 😕
I'll check them out. :)
@@gs2461 I watch a lot of Japan videos too! That's why I try and show different places :-)
it may be worth to consider flying into Tokyo and then taking another flight from Tokyo closer to Hakodate. flights inside of Japan on budget airlines can be very affordable
Im planning to go to the japan for the very first time. Most likely I will have to swich plane during the flight. Do you know if I will have to play around with my lagguage and check in again on switching country?
Usually you don't have to, but ask when you check in and you can also check with flight attendants. In my experience, if they give you both boarding passes when you check in, you don't have to pick up your luggage. The only time I had to was when I changed to a domestic flight (from Tokyo to Fukuoka) immediately after arriving from an international flight to Japan. Hope that helps! :-)
@@cakeswithfaces Thank you very much! :)
Hi hi, just a little question. How far ahead should i book my flight to japan? I'm aiming to go oktober/november.
Thanks in advance 😊
I usually book mine quite early (because I like having something look forward to!), or whenever there's a deal or sale on, or the prices seem good. But not everyone does! Keep an eye on the prices and lock them in when there are good fares! If you're planning for October/November 2021, check the cancellation terms carefully, because foreign tourists still aren't allowed into Japan, and there's no news on when the border will be re-opening. Personally, I'm holding off booking anything until we know what's happening.
What about shipping your luggage to the hotel ahead of time? Can it be done?
There's an excellent luggage delivery service in Japan called takuhaibin (also called takkyubin). They'll have a counter at the airport, and you can also send luggage between hotels. I normally carry my suitcases with me to save money (not that the service is particularly expensive) - also bear in mind that for some trips it might arrive the next day, so you'll need a bag of overnight items with you. Details here: www.japan-guide.com/e/e2278.html
Something that just popped up.
When booking your flights and hotel.
What are some key things you think people need?
For a hotel, I think the most important thing is that it's close to a station. You'll be travelling on the train a lot, so you don't want to have to walk a long way to get to it every day. From there it's a case of finding somewhere that suits your budget.
For the flights, look at the arrival times, and if there are stopovers, make sure they're not too long. Haneda Airport is preferred because it's closer to the city than Narita, but I'd book flights to either airport if they had good fares! Personally, for my next trip I'd feel safer with a direct flight (just in case quarantine rules are introduced for a country you've changed flights at). Also in the current situation, I'd consider how reliable the airline is, and whether they're likely to go out of business. Check their policy on cancellations/date changes just in case.
Hope that helps!
Research your destination , airline tickets book way way months in advance if you can . Dont take the first price thrown at you . Airlines now will go all out to get you on there aircraft . Great deals can be found ie premier economy for the price of a economy/coach class ticket . I got that price with BA direct and then ended up in business class to Seoul and to Tokyo trips on BA and booking with the airline direct could save you money . Best of luck on air tickets . Hotels well I found good deals at JAL hotels one I use is at Narita airport . Toyoko hotels loads of them good value . I appreciate their are various budgets involved . The japanese call them reasonably priced hotels . Again shop around and book way in advance. Have a lovely trip .
SO I BOOKED A TICKET
Ooh exciting! Enjoy planning your trip!!
@@cakeswithfaces No, it's a meme
yeah choosing the dates is very stressful for me right now. I am afraid to pick the wrong one and set up the hotel for the wrong day. So I am coming from the USA Pennsylvania so if I leave like may 6th at 8am I would arrive in japan time on may 7th? because average flight time is like 15 hours I think.
If you're travelling west to east (which is what I do from the UK), it would probably be the next day. The best way to check is work out the arrival time in US time, then convert that forward to Japan time (check but I think Japan is ahead of the US).
@@cakeswithfaces thanks i will look someone said when I book the flight the date I will arrive in japan time is listed there
@@konkonstudio626 Yes, flight arrival and departure times are always in local time. Usually if it's the next day you might see a "+1" somewhere on it! Good luck! :-)
Can you ship items you buy from Japan to your home if you buy to much to fit in the luggage? Or do you buy another one and just pay the baggage fee?
I've always packed light and brought items home in my suitcase. Some airlines allow two suitcases each, so that's also a cost-effective option eg you can take an empty large bag or holdall inside your suitcase to use if you need to. Otherwise you can ship items home from the Post Office, or pay for an extra suitcase at the airport.
The old rules of booking early do not apply anymore, I believe. Especially flying out of Japan, there are always last minute deals, especially if you fly via Beijing or Taipei. China Airlines gets you out of Japan for 300 dollars, no problem. ;-)
Thanks for the tip!
You are welcome. Great channel, btw.
So if (for example)a direct flight of 12 hours leaves the UK at 2am(UK time) does it arrive at roughly 10pm(Japan time)?
Yes that sounds right!
Be my sister, I need your assistants for this ;-;
I am from the Bahamas. I am not sure but I think booking a flight might be difficult for me. Do you have any tips for us West Indians.
I'd suggest looking on SkyScanner or Google Flights - from a quick check there are indirect flights from Nassau.
You are right thanks so much.
I’m flying from the UK, do you inevitably lose a day no matter how Early you fly out. I hope you see this
I thiiiiink so! Whenever I've gone, the arrival day has been the day after departure day. (Almost got that wrong once and booked my hotel for the wrong day!) It's a bit confusing! :-) And then when you fly home you have one really long day.
Is $900 USD cheap for a Tokyo Japan flight? Or should I wait for the price to go down?
I only really know about prices from the UK; for 2 people from London to Tokyo return it's around £1000-£1200. You can get cheaper but they often involve a lot of changes or long stopovers.
I've never got on a plane before 😂😭💔
Hope you can try it one day when it's safe!

Tokyo is the most expensive airport loool
Really? I've found airports in Europe much more expensive (the amount I've paid for a sandwich and crisps 😱😭). It's great that you can get ramen and sushi at the airport (always makes me sad to go home!).
