  • MISO Attributes Roadmap: Maintaining Reliability in a Rapidly Transforming Energy Landscape
The Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) like many other grid operators is facing an energy transition. The retirement of conventional power plants and the increasing penetration of renewables is leading to an increasingly weather dependent generation fleet. Further, extreme weather events are increasing in intensity and duration; and industrial load growth and electrification trends are poised to disrupt traditional load patterns. These factors create complex challenges for MISO and stakeholders.
The energy transition will require the advancement of market reforms and requirements to meet the changing system needs and to ensure that there are adequate system attributes needed for grid reliability. In 2023, MISO laid out its foundational analysis in the Attributes Roadmap report. This seminar will present an overview of the MISO Attributes Roadmap. Then the on-going work on the three priority attributes will be addressed. Finally, some of the recommended next steps and future research opportunities will be presented.
