I have this mental image of them working really well together as a duo of thieves/shinobi, but they just talk shit and constantly try to one-up each other the whole time.
Keep them both and invest some of your cats into a house. You can set up beds to rest in, maybe set up a shop to sell your loot while you're away, maybe even set up a roof top farm and have Bernice grow food for the boys, or keep her as a medic.
Definitely want at least Cat to join the crew, Berneice would be cool too but I'm not too attached. I just like the idea of Cat actually being Crow's old thief buddy, joining the team to help steal goods for the rest of the boys, if you get him an identical mask it would be a really cool aesthetic. If the boys started buying real estate in towns they frequent for work, Berneice could just be placed in charge of managing them, being a steward almost and just making sure there's food and supplies to come back and grab. Not saying the series should blow up in scale like Bandits did back in the day but doing little things like that would really make it feel like the gang is becoming a real *company* and that would be sick! Especially so if you plan to take on the big ones one day, like Cat Lon or Bugmaster.

Not a super long campaign and the characters have actual character to them. Mason is playing by his own rules here, adding a moral conflict to the group. Excellent. MVP? Crow. Favourite character? Mason.

Cat is programed to join you after you free him from the dust king they kidnapped him while he was going to a party or a date I don't remember exactly but he was dressed nicely so they kidnapped him thinking they could ransom him for money but he's a poor citizen of the United Cities I believe that no one noticed missing. I don't know anything about Berneice I think you just got lucky with her after you free'd her but I'd still say keep her and anyone else you free that wants to join you. She does look like she could be a bandit maybe a starving bandit they captured but consider her joining you as turning over a new leaf wanting to do something better with her life than living a life of crime. Plus it'd be nice to have a medic around someone who knows how to patch people up after the hard fights I liked your idea of only doing the series with only the 5 people added a whole new challenge to it but I also like the idea and the challenge of only being able to only recruit people you free from captivity because I believe it's a low percentage that they will actually want to join you but I also know that can't be possible because a character like Beep will walk up and want to join you when you walk into Mongrel and you can't turn away everyone's favorite Kenshi Character so Beep would have to be an expectation to the rule.
Honestly I'd suggest Manhunters, if it wasn't already taken. I'm pretty sure you (or someone else) have already done the hounds before. Maybe something birdlike, like The Scarlet Hawks or Silver Crows (although I guess you already have a member named Crow). Since you've been growing your group a bunch, maybe it would be best to be called something like the Iron Legion. Of course, only if you're willing to open up to more recruits. 5 people aren't exactly a legion, they're specialists. Just something that might work

I captured the Dust King earlier this week, hoping to add him to my squad. Then I forgot about him when I went on a ruin raid and he starved to death.... Only thing that felt right to do was to crucify him on the wall by my gate, just a little reminder for the bandits who's boss around here.
In Mason's defence, one of the reasons you realy dont want to let your rangers use high power crossbows for a long while is the fact, that the only way (unless you use mods which let you build dummies for that) to get better at not shooting and hitting your friends, is shooting and hitting your friends.
My favorite is Mac, especially after getting the Dust King's sabre! Also, we should totally keep Cat! Berneice too, though she might need a name change. Bernie, maybe?

Just started playing Kenshi, got a small (6) group curently living of hunting in that one hiver oasis near the Hub. I was wondering what stats/gear would you say are enough to go exploring this massive world for a early game party? Also i am fond of Battle brothers or just maybe a lil bit of Fear and Hunger? I think Berneice should be named something else, while Cat and Crow make sense together because they are both sneaky creatures, Berneice needs a different name. Also I do think the addition of 2 more people makes sense at this time, because people are starting to look up to the crew as heroes, and some people might want to join. I think this is the perfect time to add more people to the crew.

The Execute Enemies mod might be a good addition. It would let you kill the bandits you knock out rather than just disarming and knocking them off a cliff. Maybe you should get a Garu as well, to carry the loot from all the people you take out while you get bounties.
A really interesting fight would be a mad ronin called the blood dragon. He has insane stats but if you beat him he has masterwork dark ronin drip and a 100k bounty. He lives in a small shack with his bone dog in that swamp area next to Spring.
On one hand, Jax is best boy. On the other, the 12 year old inside me wants to choose Crow for favorite because cool black eye tear ninja mask. Also, you gotta keep the crew. And Cat's name, it goes so well with Crow, as the top comment said.

Around 40s in skill or even 30s for a 6 man group is good, just avoid huge fights
