The ending... this episode was so freaking good. I love when a show hits you with the sudden feels when you weren't expecting it. What a satisfying resolution... PENGUINDRUM IS A MASTERPIECE!!! Also the "I will bring Momoka back to this world" sent shivers. Momoka is so important to every character and the thought of Momoka coming back was so exciting and compelling. It shook everything up. That made me really wonder how the story will play it from there.
The ending to this episode is probably one of my favorite moments in any show that I've watched. It just has such a beautiful message that every person- teenage girls especially- should know and be told every day: that no matter how insecure you are, no matter what other people tell you, and no matter what you may tell yourself, there is someone out there that loves you. Don't ever tell yourself otherwise. Momoka is one of my favorite anime characters for similar reasons; her outlook on life- that everything is beautiful- is just so inspirational. It's really a shame that she's only fictional. T~T "I love you a lot, Yuri. You're beautiful just the way you are now."
Yeah, Penguindrum really reminds me of The Imitation of Christ. Also, I could say the same of Utena to some extent, though self-sacrifice for the sake of others is even more central here, as Momoka saves several people, and several other characters eventually play the same role both for individual people and for the whole world. Ikuhara is a master at Christian tropes, for some reason lol
Same! Momoka quickly became one of my fav anime characters of all time with just one episode! Crazy! I'm glad more people appreciate her as much as I do, if not more. Just as you said, Momoka is just so inspiring and full of wisdom, even though she's just 10 she seems like an old soul. Amazing. But I do believe that people like her do exist in real life, somewhere out there, very rarely but they are born. And I wish for all of us who love Momoka to meat someone like that and have them in our lifes.
i never gave it a sexual thought, i thought it was literal of him operating on her on some way, removing tissue here and there, or even bone, like extreme plastic surgery. But i guess that would leave scars.
Yeah i think so too, but when i think about it irl what can someone do with a screwdriver to make someone beautiful then I realized it's a metaphor for pp
How terrible of such an atrocious dad in the story plots. Yet, in realty, there could be even more terrible plus atrocious parents that keep torturing & devastating their children!
I still can't believe some fans argue that Momoka was evil. I mean, what did she ever do that hurt anyone? For all I know she was a saint as shown here.
Really? Momoka was the most pure character on the show. Though you could argue she lived selfishly by changing the world to suit her idea of what was best for it.
True! The only people she actually hindered were those that wanted to destroy the world, and if that is selfish in some way, I really don't think that is bad kind of selfishness.
Purity, kindness, & even self-sacrificed spirits are not the kinda sustainable life buoy. Why sacrifice Momoka? If Momoka is resourceful enough, simply report the suspected case to her family or teacher so as to the police. What I mean is... more or less, there is justice to maintain the society, even though demons do exist amidst our human world as well. p.s. Perhaps, I shouldn't be so naive to believe in anything, eg. justice. As the belief or faith is so weak & untenable, we should even work harder to fight for it. Just fine! Story is story. There always need some incitement to stir up our feelings.
All in this anime is a metaphor, so I don't know why people find so hard to see that this is a sexual one. His father was raping her. I mean, I know it's more comfortable to think the other way, but come on.
To have Yuri's own father rape her and talk down to her like that is just fucking sick. As much as I don't like death, I think he that what he deserved.
I never watched the anime, but her father is a basterd! How can you hate your own child for some stupid reason!? on top of that he hurt her so much!I'm glad momoka did that! I can't argue about the fact parents are important, but when they are treating there children like that, they deserve to die,it's my opinion, after all.
Sierra Conway Well, this anime is particularly psychological. Everything that happened is symbolic of a repulsive aspect in society. Yuri represents the self hate that ends up torturing yourself. Her father is an extortion of imposed societal ideals.
@@robertcalifornia9641 You know nothing about rape, do you? Its very normal, the father was a psycho, obsessed with beauty, it was to be expected that he was either raping her, or torturing her because of his crazy feelings, or both, probably.
I also found it weird at first that people are comparing it to rape. but some parts of this arc suggest that it may actually be true, especially 6:17 and 6:28. in the end there is no way to know for sure which interpretation is true, but...personally, I believe that the father was a sick sadist who physically tortured his daughter because of his sick beauty ideals and because as a sadist, he enjoyed it. he also raped her, probably with his sculpting tools. or it could be that the many tools represent the various ways he used to abuse her, and one of the tools symbolizes his d***.
A(Momoka/God of Fate/Change the Word): The Price of change the fate is dead for life not more life for me and life for her is good she live jane the arc...
Wait this was incest ?? I did get that feeling but I thought he was... Dma I though he was replacing her with the sculptures. Seriously I think he deserves to die..
Probably beating and molesting his daughter, yes. The chiseling was most likely at least partially symbolical. I'm not sure if he died, but Momoka really changed his world, in any case. He may have disappeared, or else become another person.
This episode hanted, the first time I have seen it I was a teen ( 14 something) . I like the story I thought it was intresting but I never fully understand the sculpture meaning until now. It's clearly an allegory of 🟣 . The little girls is grooming by her " daddy".

Momoka is such a good girl ugh she's my fav character in this show ; _ ;
Episode 15 and 24 are my favourites. I adore episode 15 for everything it ladles out
Damn this anime is so underrated
I feel bad for her but it’s is still messed up what she did to Ringo…

Is it really though?
I mean I thought so at first but that really wouldn’t explain the injuries, I think beating her would be more accurate

Could be, but nothing in particular points to that. So it just as easily couldn’t be.
Yea I thought it might not be rape until 6:18
It became too obvious then...
