I'm not sure, are the pump and filter light plugged into the same outlet? Try just plugging in the pump to see if it is working. Let me know what you find out.
@DaviddoesStuff , it only requires one plug in. We plugged it in, but nothing is happening. The UV light in on, but nothing is happening with the water. We didn't know if once we plugged it in, it would immediately start pulling water through the filter.
@ValerieSamuel-fn8ll then you need a pump. I bought mine as a kit and it came with a 500 gallon per hour pump. The filter does not have a pump built in. Be sure you have your filter unplugged because without water flowing the bulb will get too hot. And when you get a pump, turn the pump on until water is flowing out of the filter before you plug it in. You don't want cold water hitting the hot bulb. The pump goes in the pond and it is connected to the input on the filter. They sell the filter by itself to save people money if they already have a pump.
So i have this same filter for my pond. Do you ever remove the top lid to clean the sponges or does rotating the valve seem to do what it needs. Also I noticed your diverter valve is really easy to flip. Mine is tight (is that due to build up?). Thanks for answering!
I’m guessing that I will need to remove the lid at some point and do a proper cleaning on the sponges but so far it’s worked well just turning the crank. I do about 30 turns in each direction then let it run until the water is clear then turn a few more turns to see if it stays clear. As far as the diverter valve it’s a bit stiff to me but not overly difficult. It’s a bit more of a struggle for my wife to turn it. Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day and be safe out there!
@@DaviddoesStuff Thanks for the great information. Now i have a different problem. I went to do a cleaning and turned it off for a moment. When i went to turn it on, i feel it may have shorted the pump

@@DaviddoesStuff what about the solids that are too large to be handled by the pump. Do you simply wait for them to degrade in the pond? Advice appreciated.
@@jaynerichards7527 for the heavy solids they do make a product called sludge destroyer if the stuff has been down there too long. I try to catch it before it gets that bad. At the end of fall I use a long handle net to scoop out as much as I can and if there is any sludge the leaves help to plug the holes in the net to remove it also. If the sludge isn't too bad you can stir the water a little at a time and let the filter get it out. If you can add a medium sized air pump and put a bubbler at the deepest spot it will create a little lift and keep the debris suspended so the filter can keep up. One other option is to get a dirty water pump that can handle solids and put it in the deep end when you want to clean it out. Keep in mind that the sludge is probably not going to smell very good so be mindful of where the discharge water goes.

@@TheChilton22 there may be some debris on the pump such as a small leaf. I’m not home to check but I think that’s a mag drive pump. If so it doesn’t take much to stall them.
Be sure the impeller doesn’t have anything at all in it and try to start it again.
After 3 minutes an alarm goes offwhen running the backwash. It seems it is only a timer. Can you run it longer without damaging the filter if the water is still dirty?
I was told to open the filter and clean it every 3-6 months. I have a grech cpa5000 with a 300liter pond.
5:04 it's really nasty water. Good thing you're pumping it right back into the water you're filtering😂😂😂
Seemed like an easy way to demonstrate the filter actually was working.
@DaviddoesStuff no I know, I'm just breaking your balls
Your gold fish seem friendly
They do better if you feed them in the same spot around the same time every day. They also seem to like me better if I wear a red shirt. 😂

How often do you do the discharge?
I’m doing it as the flow slows down. Right now about every two days. As the water clears up it will require less.

Do you have to change the sponges? If so how often?
They offer replacement sponges for around $20 but at this point I have no idea how long they last.
Thanks for stopping by and your question.

Like your gold fish
Thank you very much and thanks for checking it out. I plan to rebuild the pond in the next year or two then I’ll put Koi back in. For now the goldfish add a little color and fun.

is there a pump inside this filter?
No, it comes with a pump but it's in the pond and connects with a hose.
@@DaviddoesStuffI think that the pump from time to time should be cleaned as well. I saw pumps which have some kind of filter inside their house to probably stop bigger particles like rotten plants, leaves, bigger dead insects from getting inside the pump.
@@upstreamer1661 I agree and I also built a bit of a large item pre-filter to keep stuff from plugging up the pump. You can see it in this video.

Can I use as a submarine
If you buy one you can do what you want with it but I think it will work best as a filter. 😉

@@DaviddoesStuff I did used over 7 days clean the filter new bulb the water still green what can I use to clean my pond its 300 gallons
Interesting video but I wonder why you don't just clean the pond. Is there a reason for expecting the filters to do this?
That's what filters do is clean the pond. The UV keeps the free floating algae from growing and filters any small floating debris. You still have to remove leaves and larger things.
How do you clean your pond?

Bruh, the only thing I heard this entire video was u saying the x killed the koi in the divorce...! Sup with that?!
Bruh, I'm not sure what the problem with your hearing is. If that's all you heard out of a 13 minute video I'm guessing it's some sort of an issue on your part.
The point of me mentioning it was, I have a koi pond with nothing but goldfish. I wanted it clear the filter didn't cause any loss of koi.
I didn't bash on her or dwell on it. Just a simple statement of fact. Have a great day and be safe out there!
@@DaviddoesStuff lol you got me there. But come on, that's crazy as hell.
@@jesseburress1337 I had 20 koi over 20 inches long and she unplugged the waterfall and the air pump. I think she deserves more than an a casual mention but it did explain why my koi were gone.
Take care. 👍
@DaviddoesStuff wow! That's just evil sir. Thanks for telling me tho. That's crazy. P.s. I did watch and listen to the whole video. It was great.
@jesseburress1337 thanks! If you listen to any of my other stuff she's never mentioned. 😉
Are there those plastic sphere at the bottom or only sponges? Thank you
No bio-balls in this model, just the sponges. I'm not sure about any of their others. Thanks for checking it out.
@@DaviddoesStuff Thank you for reporting your experience and for your quick reply!
@@__Dp__ You're welcome! Have a great day and be safe out there!
The 10000 size model, which I purchased recently, has the bio-balls. Whether the filter has the bio-balls or not depends on its filtering capacity. I forget what size filter has the bio-balls, but I am sure it says in the manual which sizes has them. The manual is available on line.
@@davidkay7126 they are either 1" or 1.25" but I don't remember. I have a few hundred of the 1" that I'll be building a container for. It will probably be this spring. My plan it to run the output from the filter to the bioball container then into the waterfall.
