You really don't want to know what kind of 4D chess went into this short due to Source 2 not actually having any form of real-time reflections.
By the way, the green ghost graffiti is from Sludge Life, a game that lives rent free in my heart: store.steampowered.com/app/1144770/SLUDGE_LIFE/
👍
Does S2FM have rt_camera functionality like SFM1 does?
Nope.
I'm really curious how you did it
This trick requires some careful planning. The mirror placing is key, and I did so with rough camera angles in mind. After I finished the animation, and the camera work was done, I exported the camera movement, mirrored it on the axis it was facing the mirror on, imported back in, duplicated the main camera, gave it the mirrored animation so it went literally into the wall (or somewhere far away), and then adjusted the cutoff so that the camera only sees the mirror frame and beyond. Then I tilted the entire animation by 10 degrees relative to the mirror position, because the mirror itself is also tilted that way. After that I rendered the video four times: normal footage, mirror footage, alpha mask, and dirt overlay for compositing. The alpha mask was achieved by rendering the entire shot with no lighting and no map loaded (pure black environment), replacing the mirror surface material with unlit white. Same goes for the dirt overlay. In post I also had to flip the mirrored footage, because the movement and perspective is correct, but the reflection still needs mirroring. I know it sounds a bit confusing, but that is why I said it's 4D chess type bullshit, lol.
should have dropped the video framerate in half when the raytracing got turned on
Honestly, I really wanted to, but I felt like it wouldn't look all that good given the fact that the video itself runs at filmic 24 fps. Ah, well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@VladislavZharkov u didnt need to actually cut 12 out of 24 frames to show framerate drops. U could have just used the inbuilt AE plugin "Posterize time". Set frame rate slider to around 21-23 and add wiggle() function to it. Then it would look like real game stutters, it would look natural enough i guess. At least natural in the realm of computer lags.
@@VladislavZharkov trash tier excuse my dude, commit to the bit next time
@@KirillGradin And what would be even funnier in my opinion, is for the dude to pause the game again to turn ray tracing back off right after killing those 2 guys and having the frame rates go back to normal 💀
Typa shit hoot be on
The amount of pain it takes to create a mirror reflection in source, and the pure 'fuck you, I'll do it anyways' energy from creators like you is amazing. Even though its meant to be a comedic video, the tension and atmosphere is still awesome, great work!
Thank you! Thing is, Source 1 actually had mirrors, I even did a tutorial on that some time ago. It's Source 2, more specifically the Half-Life: Alyx version, that lacks them. Hopefully they'll bring ray tracing in future versions.
Fantastic as always, love a good 4th wall break! 😆
0:11 love this shot
lighting is awesome🔥, especially for sfm
No kidding my youtube started buffering when the ray tracing got turned on in the video lmao, I'm getting cyberpunk PTSD!
The best advertising for ray tracing
hitman really does have some of the best UI that it's always really fun to see it in videos
this is the stuff I expect from such talent as you
Meanwhile the PC: (insert increasingly louder fan noises)
Thanks for leaving on Random Goose Spawning, it's a great feature!
I thought for sure he was going to use the screenshot mode that lets you free cam around the map to look around the corner.
Really nice looking, and funny idea. Just had this in my recommended, so hopefully expect some more views. You deserve it!
Nice machinima

Awesome video. Hopefully you gain a lot more subs.
Железо решает🤣
Amazing ❤
Awesome work dude, that menu scene was chefs kiss. Great job with the sound design too. Could I get the song name you used?
Even better, I bring you the track itself: vladislavzh.bandcamp.com/track/rays-traced
@@VladislavZharkov Thought you might have produced it! Salute
Turns out ray tracing wasn't a meme after all.
"Counter-terrorists win."

They definitely reported him for hacking :P
Heyy, that's a SLUDGE LIFE Graffiti! Tia x Ghost, right? Didn't think you were a SLUDGE LIFE guy.
God damn, what audio did you use for the guys getting shot? It sounds so familiar
That's the scream of my buddy on Discord that I recorded a couple of years ago and kept trying to find an excuse to start putting it in my videos like the Wilhelm's scream, lol.
RTX ON !!!
ok that's really clever lol
"Forming tactical advantage at grid niner dash three-seven."
no way bro uses source filmaker
Meanwhile, I turn grass off to see hiding enemies.
Do you have the soundtrack uploaded by anychance ?
Here you go: vladislavzh.bandcamp.com/track/rays-traced
That fps loss surely would give you an advantage xd
Also mirrors don't need ray tracing to work, see original Deus Ex
I like
Real
So true
Is this made in sfm or s2fm
Outta curiosity, was this made in S2FM?
Yes, the Half-Life: Alyx version.
@@VladislavZharkov That’s awesome, I see you put a lot of effort into it.
Only 1 view in 9s, bro fell off
😠
only one reply in 7 hrs, bro never even had it
Meanwhile, in game:
"Hey, dude, my game is lagging a bit. I'll go and turn down the resolution."
'WAIT! NO! DON'T! THIS IS A SOURCE GA-"
*hl2.exe has stopped responding*
Next, do Distance grass rendering lmaoo
What game is this based on?
👍
