  • Checkout the Baofeng G11S! These radios claim 3 watts of power with 11 NOAA weather channels. I found them to be quite sturdy, able to take some abuse. They have 14 menu options and are perfect for beginners to GMRS. When using the FREE programming software for the Baofeng G11S, from Radioddity.com, you will be able to add some of the amateur radio frequencies for monitoring as well as name tags. These radios are perfect for everyday carry (EDC) due to their size and weight.

    Same radio as the P11-UV only that radio is rated at 5 watts. I picked one up and it tested at around 4.2 watts. For $36 on amazon you get the radio,charger, external mic, and usb software cable. Its a pretty nice unit overall.

    I use Chirp on my Mac for programming my UV5R. Would I be able to do the same with this radio? I don't see it listed in the model pulldown menu.

    • @0errant
      @0errant 2 года назад +1

      Just found it's the same as Retevis RB27, which has CHIRP support.

    Thank you so much for your video. It is really helpful. The issue I'm having is the programming software not detecting the proper com port. I have a baofeng programming cable, and I've downloaded the proper drivers for Windows 10. It worked when I first installed it. It detected the right comport, read from the file, etc... It hasn't worked since. Any ideas?

      I don’t have this particular radio, but I do use Baofeng CPS for some of my GMRS radios, as well as Chirp. If the com port I select doesn’t work, I just keep on trying other ports until one works. Or you can go to your Windows Device manager to see which com port is the right one.

    How to print the file once programming is done? I save the file, it's a .dat, but won't open with Adobe, Paint, Word, etc. Good video, thanks!

    Anyone find out the best way to uninstall the programming software for the G11S, called P11UV_GMRS CPS? I found it would not do what I needed it to do. Instead I found that the G11S is essentially the same radio as the Retevis RB27, so I selected that radio in CHIRP and was able to program what I wanted. Now I'm trying to uninstall the P11UV software and it doesn't appear in Windows' list of installed programs.

    You’re video has helped me tremendously! I’m trying to pair the g11s frequencies to the rugged radio frequencies. It will let me put in the Rx frequency, but it won’t let me put in the Tx frequencies. Would you happen to know why? I’m using the same program you’re using in the video. Any help is appreciated.

      Thank you for taking the time to watch and the comment! It is greatly appreciated. If i remember correctly GMRS radios can only Tx on the specific GMRS frequencies authorized by the FCC.

    I really did not understand at ALL how the repeater programming worked. I have a more clear understanding now, it appears I need to find the local repeaters, find out what freq and tone to use? (I assume that was the selection item you altered)I'll work on it this week. thanks for the video! 👍

    Question: In case I want to transmit on a certain frequency, what can I do to transmit? I have the G11S of the video. Example: the 462.225000 and the 462.325000 of the baofeng BF888S I have the software and the cable, but I don't know how to use it on the software.

    Seeing that it shares frs ch, is it narrow banded like the midland radios?

    Any antenna other than the original that you would recommend for the G11S? I measured the SWR on the radios I bought, the SWR is terrible (> 3.5)

    • @WJ6FRadio

      Thank you for taking the time to watch and the comment! It is greatly appreciated. I have not yet tried any other antennas. However an inexpensive Nagoya 771 I think would do the job. Just make sure it covers the proper frequencies.

    • @clydeosterhout1221
      @clydeosterhout1221 2 года назад

      Trying to get an accurate SWR reading on a HT takes some special procedures, as it uses your body as the antenna’s ground plane. If you don’t hold it just right the swrs go way up. That is also why holding your radio correctly when transmitting can make a huge difference.

    The factory set ctss codes are useful in my opinion. Out of the box you will not hear anyone besides your other Baofengs or interfere with other traffic from other radios. Turning them off is a few clicks away. You don’t even need a computer. If you want private conversations leave the ctss codes ON.

      @@WJ6FRadio not a problem. I tend t make my opinion known. That is as long as I'm not shunned for it. New to all of this. The way I see it is boafang needs to be sewed for false advertising. Bunch of you hams need to get together and do this. Or is it OK with you that China rips off America?
