The song represents Dutch hardcore history, but it also has a deeper meaning. The ending breaks my heart where he seranades his parents, who passed away at a young age. His papa always told him to believe in expanding borders and now he's done it.

He is a huge inspiration to young folks. He is such a legend the world needs more people like Joost. He has gone through so many challenges in life, it is a true inspiration to see how he deals with it. Joost klein, droom groot.❤

It's like what he sings about Stromae. First time you hear it sounds funny but the real meaning of the song is very beautiful.

    • @roof35
      @roof35 7 месяцев назад

From Stromae -> "Papaoutai" meaning "Dad, where are you". The song has different layers, where the remembrance of his father and mother who passed away when Joost was little (no pun intended ;-) ), is a deeper layer. In my view you see In the intro the house of Europe, at the end it's burning. This is a more political layer. But the song has a positive message: "let's come together!" where the upbeat of the music is adding the vibe. I hope that the whole audience at the live performance will dance to the music and make Joost's performance a great happening.

    Some interesting facts:
Joost Klein is maybe more popular in Germany and Belgium then in the Netherlands itself. He even had a number 1 hit in Germany with Friesenjung.
The list of people who are in the video:
In the dinner scene you can see: Rene Froger (De Toppers - ESC 2009) S10 (ESC 2022), Donnie (Dutch rapartist, cowrote the song) and Emma Wortelboer (tv presenter, gave the televote points in 2019).
On the tv is Tim Haars with a typical New Kids line. New Kids was a tvshow in the Netherlands and Germany, following a group lowbeat hangyouth, with a huge cult following.
In the car at the end the one and only DJ Paul Elstak. He remixed the song at the end. He is one of the early adopters of the 90s happy hardcore/rave sound. A wave which was massive in the Netherlands.

His father died when he was 12 and his mother when he was 13. So “papa” is like father or dad in Dutch. So the song is kind of about his dad. In the end he talks about his dad.

This is a masterpiece!!! This is the winner of Eurovision Songcontest 2024. No doubt. Europapa = Eurodad. 12 points for The Netherlands. An ode to his father who passed away when he was 12 years and his mother who passed away when he was 13 years. His father told him that there are no borders, no limits. Go travel and discover Europe and the world. He promised his father that one day he will be singing at the Eurovision. They used to watch it together when he was a child. Now he made it, because he will be on stage this year. The fire simbolise letting go of the pain no having his parents and the start of a new chapter in his life.

  • @Mangoxchick
    @Mangoxchick 7 месяцев назад +10

Heyhey! Here’s the translation to the ending!!!
What he says roughly translates to
‘At the end of the day we’re all just people, my father used to tell me it’s a world without grenzen (grenzen, means borders but it also translates to limitations). I miss you everyday is what I quietly whisper, see dad? In the end I always listened’ referring to the advice he gave him.
He always told his parents who both passed he wanted to go to Eurovision and now he made it, taking after his fathers advice not to feel limited since the world is beyond limitation if you’re willing to work hard for it.

He always uses a lot of puns in his songs, which are hilarious when you get them. I love this song, love the fact that people love it. Full circle moment for Joost, he’s gonna be great

This is fabulous, I gave up on the UVSC 3 years ago but Joost makes me want to watch it again. This work of art has it all, it makes you laugh, it makes you wanna move to the groove, and it is a great message, so many typical Dutch referrals / hidden gems, it gives me Chickenskin (Goosebumps) and it made me cry. I have found out how great Joost is because of this piece of art, I did not even know about him before he was on the Avondshow with Arjen Lubach not so long ago. My initial 1st impression was ""what a nutter"", but that soon changed finding out his backstory and hearing this art for the 1st time. Now I am backtracing his artwork and am amazed at how great of an artist he actually is, and me being no spring chicken anymore at 58 and counting he achieved to impress me, and I'm not easily impressed. Joost is a revelation, wow!!
Joost lost his dad to cancer when he was a teenager +/- 13 years old, and his mother died from a heart attack a year later.
""Those who laugh the brightest most always have the heaviest loads they carry around, where ever they travel that backpack of experiences is always there, they can't escape from that, be as free a spirit as you can be, respect your elders, don't waste your time, and an ode to his dad credo""borders are stupid"", and Ubuntu(*)""
This sums up Europapa (papa is Dutch for Daddy) for me, it is true Art and a masterpiece by Joost (Joast) Klein (kline).
(*) Ubuntu (Xhosa(a South African tribe language) for "we are all as one"") is the most prolific, important, eye-opening, life-changing word I have learned in my 58 years of being an earthling.
Ubuntu to you, fellow earthling :)
Btw Klein means small in Dutch.
    Joost Klein, dream big

The last part is about his dad, who he lost to cancer at a young age. Shortly after he also lost his mother, that explains the end. He told his dad that one day he would be singing at the Eurovision, now he finally made it. It represents a full circle, he loves his parents really much, but he needs to leave the pain and the hurt in the past so he can open a new chapter in his life, hence why the picture is burning.

As said before: Little bit of background on Joost. He was creative from a very young age and also a bit different. His father said that there are no boundaries and he should follow his dreams. They always watched the Eurovision Songfestival together so as a kid he replied that his dream would be to go to the Eurovision Songfestival. Then his dad passed away when he was 12 and his mother when he was 13. For inspiration and acceptance of the loss of his parents he travelled trough Europe. Therefore he sings that the pain and emptiness stayed with him no matter where he went. He paid for mental help but it did not work for him. Still he managed to be a very positive and joyful person as reflected in this song. He sings about the song Papaoutai from Stromae that is also about missing his father. In all of this he managed to combine lot's of cultural aspects of different European countries and the Netherlands. Without the layer of his personal life you will notice that a lot of elements can directly be related to the European countries. The young boy and the old man represent him and his father struggling trough life and his father being an example for him. The final emotional scene represents him as a kid and his father when it all ended, the burning of the family photo and the building represents that you need to move on in life and not get stuck in the past. In the end he tells that he listened to his father (there are no borders for your dreams) and refers to him going to the Eurovision Songfestival. So winning would be optional, his goal was participation.

    Europe let's come together!
    (Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa)
    It's now or never!
    I love you all!

    Welcome to Europe

    Welcome to Europe
    Stay here until I die
    Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
    Visit my friends in France
Or take the legs to Vienna
I want to leave the Netherlands
    but my passport has disappeared
    Fortunately, I don't need a visa
    To be with you
So take the bus to Poland
    Or the train to Berlin
I have no money for Paris
    So use my imagination
Do you have a euro please?
    Say “thank you” and “please”
    I've really lost everything
    Except the time
    So I travel every day
    Because the world is mine
    Welcome to Europe
    Stay here until I die
    Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
    Welcome to Europe
    Stay here until I die
    Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa

    Europe-pa-pa-pa
    (Hey)
    Euro-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa
    Europe!
    (Hey)
    I am in Germany
    Aber Ich bin so alone
    Io sono in Italy
    But it still hurts
    I'm running from myself
Crying for “help!” all day long.
Yes, I even give people money
But there is no one to help me
    I don't need es-car-gots
    Don't need fish 'n chips
    Don't need paella, no
I don't even really know what that is
    Turn on the radio
    I hear Stromae with “Papaoutai”
Won't stop until they say so
“Yes, yes, he does that well, ey!”
    Welcome to Europe
    Stay here until I die
    Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
    Welcome to Europe
    Stay here until I die
    Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
    Euro-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa
    Europe-pa-pa-pa
    (Hey)
    Euro-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa
    Europe!
    Europe-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa….
    Welcome to Europe boy!
    (Hey)
    Europe
At the end of the day
    Are we all human?
    My father once told me
It is a world without borders
    I miss you everyday
    Is what I secretly whisper
    See you now dad
    I listened to you

Awesome to see you getting the vibes. Thats what happy hardcore is all about! Forget your worries in the weekend, and go completely mental. On monday we can all be boring again. There is a deeper layer in this song (consider his parents died young, and he is singing about being able to visit anyone without needing a visum.... pretty hardcore), but in the end it IS a tribute to Europe and his parents. The burning stuff at the end represents leaving the trouble behind and move on. I hope everyone will enjoy this song as its meant to be, go loco during and back to normal after the song. Letsgoooo Joost!

dutch with some german, italian mixed in. Doesn't care for escargot, fish and ships. Song is really about the ending of the song. That he is true no borders like his dad used to say. So basicly it's a very joky song but with a very serious/sad tone/meaning.

  • @gjbijzet
    @gjbijzet 7 месяцев назад

The story (briefly) is: his parents died when he was 12-13. His father always said: the world has no borders. So he said: then I want to be at the Eurovision Song Contest one day. After the death of his parents, he started searching for the meaning of life (and relief of his pain) by traveling, but never actually found it there. He gave people money (psychologists?) to help him, but it didn't work. Until he realized that he still had time and therefore still had options to realize his dreams. After all, the world has no borders right? And so he did. The burning house represents losing but also moving on, in a positive way. Burning your bridges: no longer controlled by pain and sadness, but focused on your dreams. Without limitations/borders.

You have to understand the deeper meaning of this song. Joost and his dad used to watch Eurovision together. Sadly his dad passed away at the age of 12.
He states 'I am running from myself, calling all the the time for help. I give people money but no one wants to help me.' Not so funny now is it? The reference to Stromae's Papaouatai is about a boy who loses his father at a young age and missing him.
So funny tunes, extremely Dutch culture, much deeper meaning. Now you know why the Dutch love this song so much ❤🇳🇱

Going up 14 places at the odds means something. It's the first time the Netherlands are so enthusiastic about their entry. I'm really surprised. In a way this is a 'nationalistic' song because there are so many little references only people from the Netherlands, Flanders and parts of Germany will understand. Maybe that's why we love it?
I think this is a tribute to ESC. The people in the video are absolutely devoted to the festival. Let's not forget this. Remember the hysterical lady in pink announcing the results of the Dutch jury? She's in there. S10 also had this dream of participating.
I just hope this will not be seen as a joke entry because it's not. But maybe that's my personal story. My father died 6 years ago and at this stage, you're becoming more grateful. He didn't speak any foreign languages but he was always able to communicate with people. Just by being interested. He did travel within Europe (Germany, Belgium, France, Greece and Spain) and he loved it.
Going back to the song: I do not like happy hardcore but this song has many layers. It's in my top 5 because of that. Together with Croatia (of course), Switzerland, Slovenia and Spain. A bit of a strange combination I know but this is not an analysis but a personal taste.

The song could not be in English without missing an important aspect, because in Dutch papa means father. Eurofather does not work. Joost used the Dutch word Europa cleverly, and extend it to Europapa, as a vehicle to use the word papa over and over again (I guess papa has never been used so many times in any song) to honour his father. Someone who lost his parent at such a young age must be stuck in time for some time until he recovers from such a trauma. You hitting the nail on its head when you say that papa means father. Joost's father's lesson was to broaden his view beyond the borders of the Netherlands because borders a just a concept invented by humans. The start of the song and the passport thing refers to that. Now he crossed the boundaries of the Netherlands like his father told him to do by his entry to the Eurovision contest and thus leaving the 12 year old boy inside him behind (represented by the last shot of the burning house where he stood in front of his "father and his 12 year old self"). Let's hope he can now finally move on now he virtually burned his traumatic past.

You pronounce Joost like 'toast' or çoast'... and Klein, like 'wine' or 'fine' Klein means 'small' but he says Joost Klein (=small) droom groot (dream big)!
