I don't care what people say about her, I'll always love and admire this woman as an artist. She was the reason I wanted to be an author when I was a young kid, and inspired me to start writing my own stories. Not to mention Harry Potter got me through one of the darkest times of my life.

Crazy that in 1999-2000, a boy aged 9 in Spain will go down with her mum through his town in the Basque coast (Northern Spain) one morning an see her books on a store. My mother saying "They say this books are good", and bought the two first ones to me. Then in a week I had read the first one and the HP and the Philosopher Stone became the first book I ever read in my life and I LOVED IT, initiating my love for reading at the age of 10 in a foreign country with a different language. HP was almost my age as I read so I basically grew with him. I was 19-20 when I read the last book of the series.
Thanks for everything Jo! Love you, and the fact that you defend your political views made me even more loving of you. Truly inspirational.

It’s true that generally you can’t support yourself off a handful of children’s books, but she managed to successfully do that. Harry Potter took the world by absolute storm, it was by far the biggest obsession I’ve seen in my lifetime, it made (and continues to make) a TON of money and got rave reviews and avid fans eagerly awaiting each future book. How many authors can say their children’s books are so successful across such a wide age range that their publisher can justify publishing the books again, unedited, with an adult cover because there’s an army of older readers buying and enjoying the series? She’s a success and a huge inspiration as an author.
Sure she may not be making the best decisions lately whatwith beating a dead horse on Harry’s world, but, ultimately, if the money keeps coming and the readers continue reading, nothing else matters.

It's interesting hearing about early Hollywood interest then, and now we are well past the entire 8 movie series that has made billions with all the actors becoming stars in their own right.

It is just puzzling to see her trying to get everything and every holes of her stories fixed right now by wildly expanding the worldviews. She is trying to do more than “just selling more books” now.

It’s a cold & windy day in Edinburgh so is either late winter or autumn. She says her second book is out (published mid-1998) and she’s writing the third but she hasn’t signed any film rights (WB obtained those in early Oct 1998) so my bet is September 1998. Earlier that year she signed with Scholastic for $100K+ and a month later WB would pay a ‘seven figure sum’. For an author whose second book was hardly out this was all amazing. Within 12 months she went from poor author to millionaire all off the back of just one book.

@@garland3688 Crazy that in 1999-2000, a boy in Spain will go down with her mum through his town in the Basque coast one morning an see her books on a store.

In any unique 1 off situations in life no1 to express exactly what it is your going through and to get every single word out/written would be like a therapy course opening up starting something thats in your mind and getting to the end uninterrupted (pay attention ms pa) when in mid free flow people might just come across as rude or something like that... The rudeness THEY LIKLY SEE IN MY OPINION IS YHERE REFLECTION OF THE IGNORENT THEY HAVE WITHIN THEMSELVES
just thought I'd say.. kinda noted it previously and been building up.. so just freeing myself from it..
