    THE "HORSES":
    *RACE 1:*
*FANCY WORDS* - Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber’s idiosyncratic expressions, whether lengthening common words (“chippingmunk”) or combining two regular words to come up with his own unique and fancy expression (“acoustic toothbrush”). Occasionally a word’s fanciness may just be ALW’s pronunciation (e.g “crass”) special to he. REPEAT MENTIONS COUNTED, but remember, it’s ONLY a fancy word if ALW says it!
*FILM* (also in race 2) - 1 point for each FULL title mentioned (though a dropped “A” or “The” is fine). The film must be referenced though, not just a title said in passing. In both episodes “up in the air” is said, but scores neither time, as no reference is made to the film. On the other hand, some words that don’t originally count may be converted by what follows. Fourvel says he has a room which gets no point, till Scott converts it. It’s important to note (so I don’t spend a lot of time arguing online) it has to be possible for the guys to be referencing the film (the same with TV). If the movie came out AFTER the episode (if they're referencing a comic), they can’t be talking about the film, so no point. This is the case with “The Slenderman”, released in 2018, impossible (discounting Time Bobby privileges) to be referenced in 2017. The exception to the “full title required” rule: only a titular character (or franchise) needs to be mentioned to score a point. So "Harry Potter", "Mickey" (don't even need the "Mouse"), “Final Destination” and "Halloween" all score a point- as long as there was at the time a film (or TV show) with that name in its title. No repeats.
*GHOSTS* - a point each time “GHOST” is said, including variations (e.g. “ghostess”) and in longer words (e.g. “Ghostbusters”).
*GOOD LORD* - A point each time “LORD”, or an variation on it (“lordette”, “lordino”) is said.
*NOTABLE QUOTABLES* (also in race 2) - This will probably be the most contentious category, the one I have agonised over the most, deciding what counts and what doesn’t. Originally, I was counting expressions such as "terrible twos”, “downward dog” and "Doppler effect” as quotes, but they were first to go when I was handicapping, because the more I thought about it, I decided none are quotations, just terms or concepts. On the other hand, “DABDA” scores, being not just a concept and common expression (more-so for CBB fans), but the overall theme of an entire book. When ALW and Scott say "DABDA" (well, ALW says it, Scott tries to), they're quoting Elizabeth Kubler-Ross ('On Death and Dying'), but "terrible twos" and "downward dog" quote no one (I hope). In the case of popular expressions "beating about the bush", which counts, someone said it first and just because we don't know whom, it's still a quote (imho). The NQ rules: English only. Quotations from books, TV shows, films (and a film poster) and plays, plus popular idioms and sayings. NO quotes from "Comedy Bang! Bang!" guests or characters (sorry, that "heynong man" in the first race is left wanting), no quotes from comics, song lyrics or song titles (or any other titles), no fictional characters and no “plot devices” ('cloak of invisibility', 'spider sense'). An actual quote, such as “My spidey sense is tingling” would be needed for a "spider sense" point, or, as PARAPHRASING A NOTABLE QUOTABLE IS OK, “my Fourvel sense is tingling” will be OK too. Also no 'Star Wars' quotes as they have their own horse to ride on. No repeats and no repeat sources (there are 2 quotes from 'Hamlet', but the immortal bard's tragedy only scores once).
*SCOTTRICK* - 1 point each time said. This is probably where I should put my disclaimer. Though I have endeavoured to catch EVERY reference and though I must have listened to these episodes at least 20 times, I missed 2 Scottricks. And a couple of other things. Fortunately my awesome Patreon patron Martijn in the Netherlands watched with fresh eyes and found them, BUT, if we have missed anything (and I guess I will find out on Feb 6), my sincere and humble apologies, I guess you’ll have to consider that part of the “luck” involved.
*SINGING!* - 1 point for each song, whether sung by one, two or three. If it starts as a solo and becomes a trio or if there’s a reprise, there are no repeat points.
*STABBY, SCRAPS & STAR WARS* - There just wasn’t enough in each horse to compete, so here’s a weird Frankenstein-type hybrid. One point for each time “stab” or “scraps” or variations are said and one point for each time “STAR WARS” is referenced.
*TV* (also in race 2) - The same rules as FILM.
    *RACE 2:*
*OUT: FANCY WORDS; GHOSTS; GOOD LORD; SCOTTRICK; STABBY, SCRAPS & STAR WARS*
*IN (ALONG WITH FILM; TV and NOTABLE QUOTABLES):*
*BODY PARTS* - Limbs, organs, fleshy bits, hairy bits, no nasty liquids or poo or blood (though “bloodstream” counts, as it also includes “da pipes and da toobs” as Slow Pesci would say). Apart from that, body parts in longer words (e.g. “lockjaw”) don’t count. No repeats.
*CALLBACKS & CATCHPHRASES* - From “it’s been” to “it’s been a while”; from a plea for a sci-fi movie (keep jokes away till after Boxing Day) to “people on the street”; from “we were on a break” to Werner and Big Sue’s pizza date: are all riding on this horse. No repeats. Callbacks to the episode itself don’t count.
*CELEBRITIES* - Celebrities may simply be famous as a spouse (Mavis Leno) or louse (Jeffrey Dahmer). The surname is enough (e.g. Houdini, Affleck, Ghandi, there’s a fun group), as long as it’s pronounced correctly.

The "You must see this film" at 1:47:37 is a reference to Grizzly Man. There is an audio recording of the final minutes of Timothy Treadwell's and his girlfriend's life. A scene in Grizzly Man shows Werner listening to the tape through headphones as one of Treadwell's friends looks on in horrified curiosity. After it's done, he take off the headphones and says "You must never listen to this tape. You must destroy it."

Cool, thanks so much. Listening to this and knowing that it is so obvious, as he has just been talking about "Grizzly Man"! I didn't know about the "Not great, Bob!" meme either, but that was easy to find.

That callback returns in the one after girls of cbb (I took a break in that one). I was thinking of that today, how often Americans (or American celebs) say "I feel like", it's so natural to their speech but I never hear anyone I know say that. It's usually, "I think". Someone in the comments on one of my videos said it's because so many of them are in therapy where it's all about feelings. But I'm glad it gave me the Chicken Tonight idea, which has become a little callback all my own :^)

No celebrity shoutout for the self-reference to Bobby Moynihan? Or did that happen before 1:54:00

    • @BabyFaceBren
      @BabyFaceBren  2 года назад +2

ha ha, actually it happened later. I must admit that's the first time I've heard it there and that was after listening to this literally dozens of times. I even had an "intern" go through it a few times (and he found a few I had missed), but thankfully, Bobby Moynihan gets a point later. It's all moot now. If anyone DID use this for betting purposes, no one has complained. And if anyone gambles on it now, they're just damn fools.
