Started my colony today with a little over 100 and just went to check on them and they are already mating! I only have one dragon so hopefully they will breed enough to feed him so I can quit buying them. Thanks you the information you have on your channel.
I get the egg crates from Amazon too, but I save my TP and PT tubes and those work just as good. I do water roaches with spray bottle and they Love that! I feed roach chow from BadAssBugs, fish food (specifically Wardley brand goldfish flakes, cuz my colony is picky af lol) plus any scraps of veggie and fruit. It’s crazy how fast they consume all of this. They’ll all be hiding then spray water or sprinkle food and they come outta the woodwork 😅
Yes I even keep the drink trays you get from McDonald’s 😂 those work great for them. Yeah sometimes a whole stick of carrot is gone in a day. They can eat.
I’ve read that citrus can be detrimental to reptiles when used to gut load feeders. Tho have also read that occasional vitamin C boost can be good. Not sure which is true so I avoid citrus and just include veggies and such in addition to the dry food (peppers have lots of vitamin c)
Citrus is ok and great for the feeders but you do want to wait a few days after feeding cause it does have some small side effects. So it’s kind of true but not that big an issue.
If you have a breakfast place nearby, Waffle house, Huddle house, pancake place ect, make friends with a server drop a nice tip a couple of times then ask for some egg crate flats "for your/family member's chickens." XD They throw them out daily by the dozens.
I've read used cartons can have contamination. Idk and I'm not an expert. But I've gotten nematodes and lost 2 tarantulas. Not from egg cartons, but it makes me weary of anything not new and or sterilized. But I will look into a way of sanitizing them. I'm sure it's do able. Thanks for the tip
@@Tarantulautist don't use anything with "stuff on it" or looks wet. Mine are usually stacked and dry. Go through so many you can pick them right off the top of the cardboard only container. 30 mins in the oven on 200* and its good to go. I bake everything going in and freeze anything going out.
This absolutely amazing!!!!! Go's I love your content you taught me how to set up a sustainable supee worm/beetle colony/colonies and keep it going!!! Also I wish you would do something on horn worms and that road 😅 god it's hard to get those guys to keep going... it's a SUPER HARD farm to start so maybe you could do that?
This is helpful. Im only planning on havimg a smallish colony for my single bearded dragon. Ordered 50 large Dubia with 100 medium so will have to go through the large and hope i have at least a few males and females.
After a few years my dubias start to have deformities. Male with ruined wings and smaller females and quicker deaths after maturity. Is inbreeding an issue?
Dubia roaches and superworm bottles LOVE HAM!!! they Tear it up!!!! I put a piece in each one of my colonies one day and went back a few hours later and it was GONE!!! by far the fastest food i ever seen them eat...
@FloppynoodlesXP i don't feed them the beetles lol just roaches I was talking about the suoerworm beetles that produce the worms. Sorry I didn't specify that. But yeah you can't feed them the superworm beetles. The exoskeleton is too hard for them to eat and they don't seem like they would be tasty lol
How would you keep the colony in check regarding how many someone would want to have on hand? I have a bearded dragon dragon and a leopard gecko, so i dont want it to explode into a 1k. Or even close to that many. Lol
I have been doing this a long time. I Drop the temperature down below 80-90 like around room temperature they slow down breeding exponentially. They take awhile to breed regardless. Once they take off breeding though you’ll have a ton. They live quite awhile too. It’s worth doing though saving a ton of trips to the pet store and money.
They CAN eat their young, if you don't supply enough food/moisture. Usually doesn't happen. But you're likely keeping them too cold if it took 8 months for you to get babies. They're doing great at the 80-90°F range.
I got a rescue baby today (beardie) and his cage smells so so so bad (he was given to me as a surrender) how the heck can I fix the smell pleaseeeeee send help
Give him a warm bath scrub his belly and skin with a soft tooth brush. Clean his tank out and scrub all his stuff from the tank. Will help. Beardies don’t stink. Something is causing the smell. Maybe old poop
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse that’s what I thought my boy has never had a scent! But I also don’t leave deuce in his tank at all! I will try this! Is there any safe cleaning products that can be used on his tank?
Unless your house is really really warm, no reproduction will happen. They're most active in the 80-90°F area. They're only roach by name, they don't compare to cockroaches in kitchens.
Hi I love your video, I recently set up a woodroach colony, but after two weeks, I notice some dead woodies in the bottom of the container, is that normal or there's something wrong? mine is 120L container, have heat mat, dry and carrot, I bought nearly 1000 mixed size of woodies as starter as I wanna feed my reptile earlier.
For ventilation, can I attach some fabric to the lid of the container? That should be impossible to escape and I wouldn't have to go out to buy a material specifically for ventilation. Also, just how rare are males? If I order 50 medium roaches, do I have a good chance of getting one?
I made the mistake of feeding all of my males off and then praying for males to come up from the nymphs. Roach Jesus heard my pleas and a few males came up and their daughters and sons are the colony I have today.
I started with 50f & 10m in 2020, then in 2022 I got about 750 more because I knew I can reproduce successfully, I’m excited to see what my colony looks like in 2025 lbvs.
I hit the jackpot once with an amazon order i ordered 400lg for 54$ and they accidentally sent me 400 adults that were 1$ a pop i have 2 decent breeder colonys now
I started my colony with about 50 females, and I would buy about 800 extra large dubias that were really close to adults, and when they became sexually mature my colony exploded, and each month I sort the babies from the breeders and its gotta be at least a thousand babies each time I sort.
I'm pretty sure that on average one female can give birth to about 125 babies a year on a conservative estimate, so if you had like 1000 females your roaches would produce 125,000 babies!
Death by snoo snoo took me out was looking for new housing ideas for my roaches 😂😂😂 I have dirt in my current bin they drink water out of the dirt it's cute
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse well she’s 110 grams 14 inches long and she loves crickets and milworms but she eats like 100 crickets a day and I want to go to roaches cause I feel they are better I just don’t want to over feed her them

Not only is this video chalk full of info but the COMMENTS, UGH, you guys are so helpful 😭♥️

After a few years my dubias start to have deformities. Male with ruined wings and smaller females and quicker deaths after maturity. Is inbreeding an issue?
Yes. I usually add fresh roaches to my colony maybe once or twice a year. What you are describing sounds like problems from inbreeding.🙂

The way you just put your hand in there and mix them up like it's just dirt is "EEEEEEEKK!!!"🫣🤢
So im about 8 months into this and i saw my first baby get born and then i havent seen it since. Do theu eat their young? Do i need to separate them?
They CAN eat their young, if you don't supply enough food/moisture. Usually doesn't happen. But you're likely keeping them too cold if it took 8 months for you to get babies. They're doing great at the 80-90°F range.
How would I safely heat this if i don't have a heat source to piggyback off of?
I mean you don’t have to really they will still breed. Just slower but room temp you’ll still have success

What's a legitimate website on where i can order these?
Dubiaroaches.com
Is it the same for discoids? (Florida)
Yes discoids like a little more dirt but I keep the discoids the same way
At 4:39 are those leucistic or albino dubias? :0
Freshly molted. They darken up in a couple hours
So how often do you clean it out?
