Native of Bunclody, born in '81, moved away in '99, the video footage is too nostalgic, thank you so much.

The dancer in the second set Mr Dennis Gilroy was my dance teacher in a local hall just up the road. And I spotted one of my Uncles in the audience too. Thanks for showing this! Brought back many memories

Thank you so much. Mrs Nancy Bond appears on the opening shot at the back. They had a grocery and bakery on the corner of Main St. And Church Road. She was married to the late Eddie Bond, who was famous for his "Barn Bracks" . Nancy who came from Kilorglin, Co..Kerry is still hail and hearty in her late ninties.

He was a great musician. I used to go up to his house in Bunclody for tips on the flute and whistle (of course I would always bring a "baby power" )and he would tell stories for hours. He loved his native county of Longford, but spent a lot of his career in CO.Wexford.

He wrote some great articles for Treoir magazine years ago which I have stashed away somewhere. I must try and put them up on the net sometime.

Who is the fellow with the glasses on the fiddle? He looks a cheery character. I saw him playing The Foxhunter's Reel, probably the same band, but have been uanble to find the video. It's really good.

Paddy, many thanks for your reply. At the end of a competition, he would often play tunes himself indicating on how they should be played! What a man! Also he would bring tinkers down to the station, not to arrest them but to listen to their music! A man before his time!

Next video in the sequence says 1963 and the announcer says it is Bunclody!

+Sean Laffey . Sean, It was the Leinster fleadh, held in Bunclody '63. The announcer was the late Sean O Morchu of Ceili house fame ( before Kieran Hanrahan took over) The three musicians playing for the dancer were P. J Moloney RIP flute, Sean Ryan RIP fiddle and Ellen Flanagan(now Ellen Comeford) accordion. Art Sinnott (father of piper Padraig Sinnott) of Boolavogue fame plays fiddle on left in front row.Big man with moustache playing the flute was the late Sgt. Brian Doherty (a native of Longford but was stationed around Co. Wexford) who was deeply involved in irish music in Wexford.I learned to play whistle and flute from him.

Great stuff Paddy.. I am trying to find the original melody to the song Streams of Bunclody, it appears the song version from Killkenny is now almost universal, but sources claim there was a local tune .
